But even as a mistake, using this Lada image makes no sense. It even looks like a crappy old car. The civilian, non-car person might see a Chrysler K-Car in those boxy and uninspiring proportions, but that is also bad for your brand. Why would you pick not just an old, but proudly economical vehicle? The vision of the future of the auto industry this tweet is selling strikes me as pretty grim, even besides the fact that is an old Soviet-made car in the background. Maybe it made it on because the car is yellow, and some 20-year-old social media manager thought yellow means it is a cool car. Really sloppy work.
My sincere theory is that it was someone working for/in the GOP who did it as a prank and/or sabotage. Because there was no legitimate reason to include it.
If it was a cool-looking foreign car, I’d maybe see that as a dumb mistake. But this is like trying to claim that Democrat cities are rioting and then showing a peaceful picture from a park in Cypress. If it was a picture from a riot in Cypress, then I could see that as laziness or just a self-serving deception, but this comes across as nothing other than sabotage.
It’s got to be deliberate, but I think it was done deliberately by the Republicans. It’s not enough to stomp on your supporters’ faces; you have to rub it in that you’re stomping on their faces. This is the Republicans’ way of saying “We hate America, and we’re going to destroy you, and you’re going to keep us in power anyway”.
A car company isn’t “American” by virtue of where its owners are headquartered. Money that goes to the owners is drained out of the economy no matter where those owners are. A car company is “American” by virtue of where the workers who earn a salary from that company are. Last I heard, that made Toyota the largest American car company.
The president isn’t running in the mid terms and so far trump has had no need for congress to act or not to act while he goes his merry way cementing in the dictatorship. I doubt anything less than a 2/3rds D majority in both halves of Congress can do anything meaningful to slow the progress of destruction.
And rest assured the red states will elect state houses and governors and state and local officials at least as red in 2026 as they did in 2024. They are mostly loving what’s happening.
Things like the “big beautiful bill” or Congress officially ceding him the ability to create tariffs are a couple of examples of things he wouldn’t be able to do without a majority. Not to mention being able to appoint whoever he wants.
It’ll hurt him a lot more than you think. Not to mention, it’ll really freak him out.
