NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 4)

To be fair to lovable Sgt Schulz, he was a social democrat, a party outlawed in Nazi Germany.

The problem with that is that it implies that homophobia is an internal homosexual issue - gay-on-gay violence, so to speak - and not something us straight people have to worry about. Which of course isn’t true.

Also, calling homophobes gay is an insult to gays.

Is it? Because there are so many examples of the loudest homophobes being outed as closeted homosexuals that it’s pretty much a cliché now.

As is the one about the people who accuse others of pedophilia the loudest being pedophiles themselves.

Are you seriously comparing being gay to being a pedophile?

Look: I get you want to insult these scumbags. I do too. But calling someone gay isn’t an insult.

Maybe some homophobia comes from self-loathing - I’ll admit that it happens from time to time. But the real reason for hostility towards gays is what lies at the basis of all bigotry: fear and hatred of the “other”. That’s a common, perhaps universal human trait, and straight people are just as susceptible to it as anyone.

No. Not remotely.

I’m saying that the right-wing bigots who shout the loudest often turn out to be guilty of the behaviors and proclivities they most condemn. It’s a form of self-loathing by projection.

And I agree - in some cases. But that’s not the same as claiming that all homophobes are gay, and that straight people can’t be homophobic.

Where I think Chronos goes wrong is the assumption that people can’t still be homophobic because they’re “unfamiliar” with homosexuality. Wilful ignorance is a powerful force, especially these days.

I think it’s naive to assume that all bigotry comes from ignorance, even willing ignorance.

I don’t really know where to put this, but while reading a longform journalism article, I learned that Nigerian online scammers have identified that they share an affinity…

A slang word for conmen. Convergent evolution, perhaps?

Humans, alas, have proven we can very easily hate (or dismiss the suffering of) our neighbor who we’ve known all our lives.

Yes, there is still a whole lot of racism, none of which is due to people secretly being black or unawareness regarding black people. Some times it just pure bigotry against those who are different from you.

From what I can see, that goes back to at least 2007 with a song called Maga Don Pay, by a Nigerian artist named Kelly Hansome.
From here:

The contextual undertone of the scam-encouraging lyrics may be negative, yet we couldn’t help but envision ourselves having so much money that the problem was how to spend it

ETA, I have no idea how far back that goes, that was just the first pre-2016 thing I saw.

Mental health with Marge if I can get it to load.

I’ll retype it in case people have trouble reading it, or it doesn’t want to load.

It’s just slightly more paranoid that the usual MTG schtick.

Yes, even if that observation is (inadvertently) rather insulting to John Banner, who from most accounts had little else in common with H.

She may or may not be prone to paranoia. But the least we can surmise is that she’s been getting more death threats than usual. (Due to breaking with Donny-boy over the issue of publishing the Epstein Files, presumably.)

I’m no fan of hers, but at the same time am not pleased to hear that the death cult has apparently turned on her. (I do wonder if she’s capable of drawing any new-to-her conclusions about those with whom she’s thrown in her lot…)

The fact that she is self-important enough to think it is a “foreign government or powerful people” rather than an internet crank, and then to assume everyone else agrees with her assessment such that she needs to announce it, this is where I find there to be an intersection of megalomania and paranoia.

It isn’t clear to everyone here that MTG is saying ‘if something happens to me it was the Jews Israelis’?

Yeah, that’s fair. And @crowmanyclouds –I wouldn’t be surprised.

Just in case anyone isn’t aware,
Charlie Kirk’s best buddy Candace Owens is spreading a conspiracy theory that the Jews Israelis killed Kirk.

Apparently being a fascist requires you to be an anti-Semite.
