NFL 2022 Week Ten Commandments

This injury was suffered on a pivotal play with about nine minutes left in the game. Goedert was tackled and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Washington. But the refs totally missed the egregious face mask violation, which would have negated the fumble and given the ball to Philly near midfield, down by two points.

Indeed. I don’t understand anyones surprise on this either. I was yelling “why the f would you do that?” before the flag even got thrown. It was so obvious. Does that not normally get called or something if you’re not Tom Brady?

Frankly, this is a play that is rarely seen…a quarterback giving himself up behind the line of scrimmage during a play. It’s a lot different than taking a knee right after the snap or going into a slide following a scramble. But in both of those cases, every defender knows not to touch the QB, and the Philly defender shouldn’t have been close to the ballcarrier.

I thought he was doing it purposely to knock a little more time off the clock. I don’t remember being surprised when he took the knee. I could swear I’ve seen it somewhere before where the QB ran around a bit with the ball to take a few extra seconds off and only then take the knee, as opposed to immediately.

Usually when a quarterback wants to run a few seconds off the clock, he just backs up several steps until a defender gets close, and then takes a knee. But in this play, he (the QB) takes off on a sprint to his right immediately after receiving the snap, and it looks like a pass or perhaps a bootleg. When it’s obvious that the play is well-defended, he goes to his knee.

Here’s a video:

I watched the game, so I remember that he scrambled a bit. Maybe I’m completely making up a memory. I could swear I’ve seen this before, as I wasn’t in the least surprised by the knee when it was clear he couldn’t pass anywhere.
