Dang it, I don’t like too many QBs but I like Jordan.
The Press-Gazette article has been updated, with this:
Not that they didn’t have other issues against the Eagles last night, including the defense, but being without Love for a few weeks doesn’t bode well for a good start to the Packers’ season.
I think the Love injury is the best-case scenario for Bears fans and the rest of the NFCN. Love’s apparently not out for the year, but the Packers will likely be starting Malik Willis or some street free agent for 4-6 games. While the media is currently downplaying the severity of the injury, I think it’s a fairly safe bet that Love will be less than 100% whenever he comes back.
I say best-case, because this likely means that the Packers chances of winning the division and/or 13+ games are probably shot. A playoff appearance will probably require them to not start 0-6 or 1-5. We’ve all seen Malik Willis play QB, so I’m not sure how they are winning games while he’s out there. This also means that if Love comes back and plays close to as well as he did the end of last season, the Packers aren’t going to land a top 5 draft pick and Packers fans won’t be able to whine all season about losing their QB in Week 1.
Packers fucked around and found out. They cut both of their backup QBs after preseason (losing one to the Bucs practice squad) signed a castoff, and will now pay the price. Maybe they grab a Tannehill and he can run a much more simplified offense, but their GM rolled the dice and lost. And Love, while miles better than anything else the Pack could put on the field, played like he does: very impressive at times, but still inaccurate and mistake prone. Gutey’s hubris is annoying
At least they have a fifth safety on the roster.
I think PJ Walker, breakout star of the 2020 XFL, is currently available…
Similar with the kicker position, where they cut both guys they had in camp, and went with Brayden Narveson, a rookie who had just been released by the Titans. Narveson was 3-4 on field goals last night, missing a 43-yarder.
Sean Clifford is on the practice squad, so I assume he’ll be called back up to the main roster as a backup to Malik Willis at the bare minimum, but I would be surprised if he wasn’t starting. He at least knows the offense, compared to literally anyone else in the NFL. Maybe they sign Tannehill and possibly give him a week to get up to speed.
But the first quarter of the season isn’t looking too hot.
ETA: Getting three turnovers, two of them deep in Eagles territory, and coming away with six points is not the way to win games. The Packers defense could definitely be more stout, but they definitely gave the offense plenty of chances to run away with it in the first half.
Tyreek Hill, Miami’s top receiver, was put in handcuffs this morning and cited for reckless driving (a criminal offense).
And it was right outside the stadium.
What the fuck happened?!
No doubt he got mouthy with a cop; he’s Tyreek Hill. But he ended up on the ground with handcuffs on his back. Forgive me for not giving the police the benefit of the doubt.
(My unfounded speculation: he’s a black man driving a very expensive car (I think Ferrari), and was treated as if he stole it)
He has been released (by law enforcement, not the team!) and he will play. I wonder if he’s so amped up he goes for 200 yards today. Or is he so distracted he drops the ball when it counts, or gets in a fight?
“Do you know who I am?”
Driving while black - DWB
“Ya’ll look the same to me!”
I (we) will continue with wild assumptions until further notice
It’s a McLaren. Probably a 720. There were reportedly “Dolphins players in the area who stopped to render assistance.”
My guess is Hill was way over the speed limit and pulled the “do you know who I am?” card. Miami cops are not unused to black men in expensive cars. South Beach is full of rich people of every color. Hard Rock is in Opa Locka - not a nice area - but there are plenty of nice cars passing through.
Cowboys give Dak a 4-year, $240M extension. So the highest paid player in the history of the NFL is 2-5 in the playoffs, and never set foot in a conference championship game.
The “next” QB up is only 4-2 on the playoffs. 4-1 in games in actually played in. Fuck that one L, though.
$60 million does seem like the going rate.
Ah, the old “throw a potential Int/have the ball richochet off a player and get caught by a different receiver who then fumbles it, only to be recovered by an offensive lineman” play. Boring…
Given how their first half of the season went, I’m starting to wonder if Carolina might make an actual run at 0-17. Lordy is that franchise in a bad way!
Wow, the Bears QB Williams likes to throw the ball low. As in, which lineman deflects this one? Or how far in front of the receiver can we bounce this one?
Into the fourth quarter of the Titans/Bears game, and there’s 131 yards passing total. Combined. By both teams.
They probably hired the same off duty cops as the PGA.
This just in… Daniel Jones is still Daniel Jones.
This is shaping up to be the Bearsiest Bears game ever.
Defensive touchdowns to the rescue!
