That could be good news for Indianapolis, though, since they play Green Bay next week. They’ve lost 11 straight opening days games. Their last win was against the Raiders in 2013.
The line I posted in the OP was Bengals -8.5. I don’t know if it moved between then and kickoff today.
I seriously considered taking the Bengals in the two Survivor pools that I’m in. Glad I didn’t.
Allen has the unfortunate circumstance of playing in virtually the same era as Patrick Mahomes. He was drafted a year after Mahomes.
Allen is 3-4 vs the Chiefs, but none of those wins have come in the playoffs. 3 of the 4 losses have come in the playoffs.
Watson did get a good throw right before being hit, would’ve been a td if the guy had caught it.
He sure had to run a lot, was no one open?
Yes, and standing in the pocket and taking that hit showed what a veteran he was. That throw was vintage Watson. The ball was right in the WR’s buttery hands.
But I find it impossible to root for Watson, even if a Cowboys loss would have been good for Seattle.
Unless some very conclusive video emerges, everyone is going to be able to believe what they want to about this incident.
Last I heard, he had been driving over 100 mph on the way to the stadium. Or course, that doesn’t account for why he ended up on the ground.
He showed up on the field, catching an 80 yard touchdown, where he outran the defense.
But, overall, Miami looked mediocre, doing just enough to eke out a win against the Jags at home. The defense showed up when it mattered, and it was a good stat day for Tua (over 300 yards and no interceptions), but I’m hoping that the team is going to build momentum as the season goes on. If they had played a better opponent, I don’t think they get the W.
Tonight we get the Jets. My prediction: Rodgers doesn’t get injured, but plays like an old man.
There are teams that play down to bad opponents but up to good ones. Maybe Jax didn’t inspire the Fins to a strong performance but they’d get up for a genuine challenge.
Of maybe they really are low-ceiling.
Heh. Here is a quote from The Athletic this morning:
Deshaun Watson — who didn’t play in the preseason — took six sacks and threw two interceptions. He looked like a bottom-five quarterback. Their running backs averaged just 3.8 yards per carry. It was an uninspiring start, similar to Tom Brady’s broadcast debut.
It will be interesting how much rope (or, for some, how much MORE rope) some teams give their QBs from here on out. The Browns (Deshaun Watson) and the Giants (Daniel Jones), may be replaced sooner rather than later to avoid yet another wasted season. But the Panthers (2nd year QB Bryce Young) are interesting because that was a horrific performance after a horrific year last year, and they have a servicable backup in Andy Dalton. Luckily for Will Levis, the Titans have garbage at backup QB and a solid running game, so he’ll get every opportunity to throw brain numbing interceptions and miss open guys. And, oddly enough, Kirk Cousins may need to improve pretty quickly to avoid the Falcons moving on to their rookie.
I noticed the Nix bias was strong with the announcers in the Seahawks/Broncos game. Every time Nix did something good, it was the second coming of John Elway. Every time the Seahawks defense was successful against a Nix play, meh - he’s just a rookie quarterback.
True, but that’s standard for any rookie QB. They always get hyped.
It was, but the articles about Nix afterward are not nearly so fawning.
I still say you can’t judge a rookie on his first game, but at the very least he has to improve if he’s going to really compete in the NFL. I watched a good amount of his college play since the Ducks factor big on local college football, and he was a lot better then. (No shock of course, that was college.) I’d say if he doesn’t have something figured out by the end of the year, he might be a bust.
Not that it’s a surprise; making it in the NFL is really difficult, and it takes a great player to just be a mediocre QB.
During the game they compared him to Elway’s first start. Spoiler alert, he did better.
Yeah, lots of QBs who end up great did not start out that way. A player like CJ Stroud is an anomaly among anomalies.
Jayden Daniels had an okay first game. He looked comfortable on the field. Didn’t throw for a whole lot of yardage, and took a couple of sacks and a few hits, but he ran for almost 90 yards, had two rushing TDs, didn’t throw an INT, and most importantly didn’t get folded in half, so I’ll take that.
He needs a lot more help, and the defense sure didn’t do him any favors. Secondary is terrible. They’re going to give up well over 5,000 yards passing this season. They’re going to need to score at least 30 points a game to even have a 50/50 chance, and they definitely don’t have that in them, even if JD is legit.
Could be very soon. Watson hit with another lawsuit.
Like sexual assault allegations or lawsuits mean anything to the Haslam family.
Could mean something to Roger Goodell, though. He was pushing for a full-season suspension last time.
I think pretty much everyone outside of the Cleveland front office expected Watson to be a legal ticking time bomb.
