I think Green Bay has some serious work to do if they want to keep their no-losses-at-home-in-the-playoffs streak alive…man…
Madden 2003 on the PS2 (mine, not some media thing…), predicted the Falcons losing 34-37. ‘Course, it didn’t predict Green Bay going four and out from the Falcons’ five, and the muffed punt return…
First, Astorian, you rock! Where have you been all year. Nice call on the Pack v Falcons!
Second, ditto (but with smaller emphasis) for CMOSDES. Smaller emphasis is for not being so apt in the description. Had I had time to make picks for the first two games I would have had the Jets winning easy and the Packers beating up on the Falcons.
Third, just to make a fool of myself for tomorrow’s games, let’s go with the Giants over the 49ers and the Brownies over the Steelers. It’ll never happen that way but it would be interesting, no?
I just realized my prediction for today’s Pitt vs. Clev game is rather murky. So there is no doubt, I’m predicting a Pittsburgh win.
But this is not a game I would bet on. Not knowing the status of Bettis for certain would make me stay way clear of this. I think Pittsburgh would win easily if Bettis weren’t 100% and stayed on the bench. But he doesn’t do that and Cowher doesn’t have the cajones to sit him when he should.
Don’t be too hard on yourself, college is a fickle and difficult to handicap game. And that cheap shot that took out MacGahee (sp?)'s knee changed the complexion of the game. Not that it was ever going to be 41-14, but you get my point.
Just finished watching this one. Poor Browns fans! But what an exciting game! I don’t even really care about either of these teams, and my heart was racing. My brother and his wife were at the game, I wonder if they were one of the dumb Steeler fans who left when they thought the game was out of hand?
ShibbOleth, I was posting over in GD while the game was ending and I found I can do a lot of typing while holding my breath. Especially since two things occured to me after I posted.
Well, Pittsburgh didn’t win easily despite the fact it looks like Jerome rode the bench pretty much. But they did win.
I didn’t watch it (at work), although I tried to follow it on the net through nfl.com. I can’t wait to get home and see the highlights. Hopefully the next game will go nearly as well!
As an aside, I’m a pessimist and a Steeler fan, which is why I thought Bettis would play. I’m just glad they won. Easily or not, they get to play at least one more Sunday.
The really bad news I just learned is that the Bucs will play the winner of Giants v 49ers next Sunday during my daughter’s birthday party! What a conflict! I’ll be really sad to miss her 7th birthday party…
Oh, and while I’m on the subject, who is the programming genius that puts the Eagles game, which is almost certain to be cold if not frigid, at night, while the Bucs game, which will be warm if not hot, will be played at midday?!? Talk about your home field advantages (in either case), but it’s also not so nice to do to the fans.
It could be worse, Shib. When my brother was a little kid, twice the Steelers were playing in the Super Bowl on his birthday. The poor kid wasn’t allowed to make a sound all afternoon those years.
Good Lord. I can’t wait until next weekend. So far I’ve predicted only one correct winner (the 49ers ain’t looking good right now), and even in that one I predicted the Steelers to cover the spread. The only saving grace is that my Steelers managed to win a close and ugly one. Good thing there’s no money on the line here, huh?
Did that traffic advisory sign on the way into Pittsburgh really say that, or was that just a joke? Because that’s freakin’ hilarious if true.
My brother came up to me a couple of days ago and asked who he should pick this weekend for the wildcard games. Now, I’ve had a bad fuckin week so I asked myself who I wanted to win in the four games and gave him the opposite figuring who I wanted to win would probably lose.
I realised that I want Indianapolis over NYJ (I’m a Peyton fan and figured he’d get over his inability to win big games problem)), Green Bay over Atlanta, Cleveland over Pittsburgh, and San Fran over NYG (I like Owens, he’s due and I figure if he has a big game, it looks good for them).
SO I said to my brother
“Pick NYJ, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, NYG and you’ll do fine.”
The 49ers are mounting a very interesting comeback right now. And to think I planned on working today, now it looks like watching football on the telly and surfing the Net.
