What a whacky ending to an imminently enjoyable game!
Realhoops, I saw it with my own two eyes yesterday. If you don’t believe me, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll tell you exactly where and approximately when!

Why did I have to work today!!!
Probably two of the best playoff games in recent memory!
I can vouch for the Mordor sign. I made a trip to the airport to pick up a friend on Friday, and I saw it on the Parkway East westbound about 1:30 pm.
They also had one that said “Send in the Browns.”
Wow, the Giants sure choked.
I posted last when NYG was up by 24 figuring that was a safe lead, guess not. Glad I’m wrong.
Both of the Sunday games were some of the best football all season (even though Pittsburgh won). They were much better than Saturdays game.
Okay, on that last play, where the Giants’ kick holder lobbed a silly desperation pass down field and killed the clock, there was a defensive pass interference penalty and an ineligible receiver downfield. The guy, who came close to catching the pass, was number 62 as far as I could tell. Just curious what an interior lineman was doing 30 yards down field on a field goal attempt. Any ideas?
A common little condition called HUAS. (Head Up Ass Syndrome)
I’ve never seen anything like the end of that game. The Giants played like they all completely relapsed back to their high school days. Absolutely pathetic.
Woo Hoo! Sundays games were the best all year. I just knew my Niners were going to fold.
Well, I was out working until about 8AM last night so I slept through Game 1 today. After the first half of the 49ers-Giants game I was pissed since I’d seen nearly every snap of 3 of 4 games, all of which sucked, and missed the only good one. Then I watched teh second half and was much relieved.
And Shibbs…
Cheap shot? Are you frigging nuts? It was a completely clean hit on a open field tackle. On nearly every play where a running back is in the open field against a DB, the DB is supposed to tackle low. Nothing cheap about it. Unfortunate that he was attempting to make a cut at that point, but not even a little cheap. Would you prefer that standard practice was for him to go head hunting and get juked?
Secondly, how much would it have changed the game? Very little in my opinion. McGahee was basically shut down all day long, he had 67 yards (IIRC) on the day. Payton came in and had a similar per touch average. What aspect of Miami’s game plan did this actually change?
One more thing I wanted to mention before. Has there ever been a worse QB-hair matchup than the Colts-Jets tilt? I mean did you see Pennington’s horrible coif? The one during an interview even when he was presumably primped for? And Peyton’s bad do is well covered.
I find this interesting when you consider the the Super Bowl III matchup might have been one of the best QB-hair matchups. Brodway Joes had some kick-ass 70’s locks, and while Unitas’ style was the exact opposite of Joe’s, it is considered by many (the King of the Hill cast included) the epitome of clean cut fashion.
Anyone else think of a worst QB-hair matchup?
I don’t know about the hair thing. Any bad hair match up would probably have to include Kelly Holcombe. Peyton Manning is just one plain ugly guy, not that there’s a lot that he could do about that enormous melon of his. At least he has skillz and lots of currency to compensate. Plus he seems like a nice guy.
As for the cheap shot comment, I only saw it in slow-mo replay so I could be mistaken, but it looked from what I saw that the OSU guy was going for McGahee’s knee. I’m not saying it affected Miami’s game plan (and I do think that Miami should have won in OT except for a ticky-tacky at best and extremely late interference call), but I’ve been in situations where players have been greviously injured, and the team that suffers the injury never seems to win. When you’re in that situation the triviality of it all seems to overcome the burning passion to win. It deadens your soul a bit.
I should also point out that while I am not happy with having to deal with obnoxious OSU fans here in Ohio, I am an ardent Miami detractor, so I don’t really have any strong bias one way or another about this game. I just don’t like seeing a young guy’s future destroyed by having his knee knocked backwards. Maybe it’s just my visceral reaction to the whole thing clouding my judgement. That was a 10,000,000 dollar tackle, not to mention the agony it must have inflicted. IMO you just don’t lunge for someone’s knee while he’s planted. Totally legal, but it was far more vicious than the shot that Warren Sapp was recently pilloried for.
Thanks. I’m not actually from Pittsburgh, just a life long Steelers fan (or at least since I was old enough to know what football is). But I believe you! That’s still one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time.
Looking forward to next week…
Ohhhh Me too!
When they didn’t get the score before halftime I said to the Roommate (Who’s Packers went down) If they don’t come back and score after halftime this sucker is done and the Niners can go prepare for 2003. IMnsHO it is because the Niners rely on such a strong QB and Garcia (God bless him) just isn’t there yet. So I gave up not wanting to watch my beloved boyz loose.
Imagine my suprise when I turned the game back on. LAWZY am I happy I did!
My Niners have played some pretty sloppy ball all season. And the Giant s game was no exeption, but they won and that means another game and another shot at a ring.
It’s the end of Moochs contract. I heard a bit of rumor they may dump him and go with Holgrem(?) out of Seattle. If so, I say “KEEP MOOCH” As much as I’d like to slap him four ways of Sunday, I gotta give him his props. (What a pretty boy like that doing coaching in the N.F.L.?) Mooch learned under Holgrem(?) in the big days in Green Bay, and I feel that the chances are much better sticking with Mooch than switching. It ain’t broke guys, don’t fix it Eh?
