NFL Week 10

Right now both the Detroit/Wash and Seahawks/Cards games have identical scores of 44-22; both are in or are about to enter the last 2 minutes. Nope they aren’t scorigamis, has happened twice before.

When? Asks the statistic lover.
What I meant was, has there ever been 2 identical scores on the same day?

Annnd the Cowboys won by that score 3 weeks ago, also against the Commanders.

And Brissett was 22-of-44 passing for the Cardinals.

Oh, undoubtedly. Probably more so in the past, when the two-point conversion didn’t yet exist, but scores like 17-10 and 24-21 happen a lot.

Nothing unusual there, after 9 weeks:
in 2024 the Lions were only team with > +100 points
in 2023 the Ravens were only team with > +100 points
in 2022 the Bills were only team with > +100 points

There are now 3 teams with over 100 point differential, this number has not been exceeded after 10 weeks since 2013.

There were 2 games of 27-20 just last week. The common scores are…common. I’m sure there are plenty of weeks with all unique scores - it’s likely the norm - but weeks with identical scores happen plenty often.

In 2022, in week 9 there were four games that finished 20-17, 98 years after the only other time it happened:

And it’s a scorigami - 36-29

I wondered if the score without the last TD, 30-29, would have been a scorigami.

It would not have been, as it’s happened twice. The last time was…last week, when the Jags beat the Raiders, 30-29.

As good as the Steelers looked last week in beating the Colts, they look awful tonight against the Chargers.

Aaron Rodgers has less than 100 yards passing and has thrown 2 picks, plus he recovered his own fumble in the end zone for a safety.

Typical Steelers season, half the time it feels like they can’t buy a first down, yet somehow stumble to a 5-4 record. But two of those 5 wins are against the 8-2 Patriots & 8-2 Colts. Not to mention leading two other division leaders at the Half (Green Bay & Seattle) before blowing it in the second half. No idea what to make of this team.

Is there a more enjoyable sentence in all of football? I doubt it

It must have been two minutes* after you typed this that Seattle muffed the Center/QB exchange at their own 2 yard line and fumbled. You jinxed them for sure.

*exaggeration for effect

No question, I am great for that sort of thing.

Brian Daboll fired as Giant’s HC

This season, the Giants have blown four 4th quarter double digit leads.

Giant’s got down to half a yard from the end zone 7 in the fourth quarter and decided to kick a field goal instead. Pretty much the nail in the coffin there.

I understand that Bill Belichick texted Brian Flores some very nice condolences.

If he’s the one calling those shots then this firing seems justified.

Such calls are usually the head coach’s decision. And, as Daboll’s background is on offense, that makes it even more likely that he was making decisions about what the offense would do.

Mike Kafka, who had been the OC and assistant head coach, takes over as interim HC for the Giants. I’ve probably shared this before, but about 15 years ago, when Kafka was playing at Northwestern, I interviewed him for a position as an intern at the ad agency where I was working. He did not strike me as the sharpest knife in the drawer in that interview, though he clearly has made a career of coaching.

Since 1950, 225 teams have held their opponents to less than 175 yards of total offense and didn’t turn over the ball – their record in those games was 225-0. Not a single loss.

Guess who broke that streak yesterday.

The Browns allowed only 54 yards passing, one of which was a 42 yard pass play, so the rest of their passing day combined was 12 yards, and the Browns still lost.
