I would call Minnesota a first-half team, but it’s self-evident.
Broken rib according to Twitter.
JLo is one ego-maniacal twat.
Jamal Charles out for the season with a torn ACL. It’s too bad, I really wanted to see what he could do.
Simms is an idiot. Does he not remember that the Pats punter is injured?
So, uh, Cam Newton. Pretty much a surefire bust, right? I never saw him in college so I had no opinion on him, but it seemed like everyone convinced he was going to go the Jamarcus Russel route - or worse, because he wasn’t even as accomplished a passer or capable of running as complex an offense.
I mean, he still may crash and burn, but 400+ yards for his first 2 games, for a guy who’s supposed to be a running QB with limited ability to run a passing offense - kinda nuts, isn’t it?
I always like Rob Chudzinski. Never wanted to get rid of him.
As he said, Brady could have punted from that distance.
I made a case to get Chudzinski back when the Bears were shopping and ended up with Martz. Really wishing that had played out differently. I’m curious how the Panthers O line is doing. I’d be shocked if Newton is playing this well with shabby protection, but then again the Panthers can’t run the ball for shit these days so maybe he is doing it on his own.
That was some serious back-pedaling that came after the commercial break and someone in the booth reminded him that he sounds like a jackass.
I hope you’re not this premature with the ladies.
And let’s remember he’s thrown four interceptions (should be five) against two defenses who don’t look very good. 400 yards is less impressive when you fling it 45 times a game against Arizona and Green Bay. Can Cam Newton play defense? Does the coaching staff know they have two very good running backs?
Who figured Detroit, Buffalo, and Washington to be 2-0?
I’m pretty cautious, just looking to stir up discussion about him, not declaring him to be great. But certainly it’d be unlikely to see two 400+ yard games out to start with of a Jamarcus Russel level bust.
Arizona is probably pretty bad, but it’s too early to say. As of now, the one game he played against both those defenses and beat them up were half their defensive stats for the year - so essentially you’re saying Cam Newton isn’t any good because he passed on defenses that are bad because Cam Newton passed a lot on them
Green Bay is going to have a very good pass defense - their numbers suck because their first game was against Drew Brees. I was expecting Cam Newton to return to a 200/1/2 type stat line against GB, but he’s still looking impressive.
Green Bay were fifth in the league in pass defense last season and had something like 4 starters on IR. You can’t say they’re not good because Newton shredded them and then say Newton’s not very good because it was just Green Bay.
Anyway, so what? He’s a rookie with one wideout that belongs on an NFL roster (let alone in a starting lineup). Most rookies throw a ton of picks but struggle to throw for 200 yards a game. Guess how many other players have thrown for 400 yards in two consecutive games?
None.*
And those two very good running backs haven’t actually done anything when they’ve carried the ball.
I think that will change- I hope it will change, because I have DeAngelo Williams in a couple of fantasy leagues- but it looks like the reconstituted O-line is much better at pass blocking than run blocking.
*Well, until the 4:00 games finished, because Brady has now done it too.
ETA: I see SB already addressed the circular argument thing.
Most rookies don’t throw the ball 46 times a game. Only Drew Brees has more attempts so far this year. His yardage is largely a function of the play calling. He certainly has to still make the throws, which he does, but in that offense, I’m not all that impressed with 400 yards passing. I think the 3 picks, the overthrows, the missed passes, some poor decisionmaking, and the 0-2 record say more about his abilities as a QB than the yardage he piled up. I’m not declaring him a bust at all, but nor am I all that impressed with yardage totals.

I’m also considering the 419 Brees threw against Green Bay last week and the 291 Grossman threw against the Cardinals today. Point taken, but I’m not saying Green Bay (or even the Cards) don’t have a good defense, I’m saying they don’t look very good right now; and I’m certainly not saying Newton’s not very good. He’s performed well as a first-year QB, but yards alone, especially when he’s throwing 40 times a game, aren’t the only indicator.
I absolutely figured it from Detroit–they were one of my picks for an NFC wild card spot.
The other two? Let’s just say that the Bills have already exceeded my expectations for the season. And no team with Sex Cannon at the helm should be winning this much.
Apropos of nothing, I need Vick and Ryan to combine for like 5 more TDs in the second half and I’ll miraculously pull out like 4 fantasy wins. Vick needs to stop giving the ball away though. If Sam Bradford out plays Eli Manning I’ll get another. This week could go from an unmitigated disaster to a big positive in whats starting out as a pretty rough fantasy year for me.
Also, Tony Gonzalez is having one hell of a night.
Cam Newton threw for 432 and had a QB rating of 72.
There is some poor QB play tonight. Vick with 3 turnovers, Ryan with two. Ugh.
