NFL Week 8

McCown got so ridiculously beat up in that game that at one point he fell to his knees and looked like he might have coughed up blood. He couldn’t lift his arm up very well at one point. And took a bunch of hits after that. And even after all that, Manziel didn’t come in until the last 2 minutes of garbage time. Pettine must really hate Manziel that he’d rather try to get McCown killed on the field than let him play.

And they think McCown will be ready by Thursday.

and Green Bay was looking so good before this
hopefully this game will hurt their confidence and the bad mojo will make them lose against Carolina next week

I wasn’t surprised GB lost, but I didn’t think they would be dominated.
And they didn’t have injuries as an excuse.
Glad I stopped watching around 8:30 (plus a little bit of the 2nd half)

Brian

The injuries GB might carry into that game will be a more practical consideration.

But you always worry about rebound effect: coming into that game close to full strength, pissed off, and ready to make a point. I don’t know that Carolina’s actually proven they have the quality team to take that on. We might know more about that after tonight’s game, although maybe the Colts wouldn’t be a good test.

We shall see.

I did not watch the Packers / Broncos game, but I’m stunned the passing yards weren’t flipped for Rodgers and Manning.

That turns out to be correct.

There’s also the 1990 season, when both the Giants and the 49ers started 10-0 through the first 11 Weeks and had a Monday night game scheduled for Week 13 … and then they both lost in Week 12. Giants lost the battle of 10-1 teams, and also lost to the Bills two weeks after that. Of course, the Giants went on to win the rematches…

God, that Giants team meant so much to 10-year old me.

So much this! I was looking at our schedule and the two games that scared me the most were the Green Bay contest and our very first Thanksgiving day game in Dallas.

If the Broncos were able to jump-start their offense during their bye, watch out; their defense has already been reminiscent of the 2000 Ravens.

This means the game of the year could be November 29, when they meet the Pats - after 3(?) straight years of this game being in New England, it’s finally in Denver this year.

Can the Broncos defense shut down Brady? Maybe; maybe not - but if they could hold Rodgers to Tebow-like passing stats, anything is possible.

I spent a little time rewatching the Darren McFadden non-catch non-fumble in the Seahawks/Cowboys game yesterday. Full disclosure is that I’m a Seahawks fan, but the game’s over, the hawks won, so who cares. And I think it was a catch and fumble, though very close. And I think last year’s playoffs call that went against Dez Bryant was called correctly, despite everyone attempting to equate the McFadden play yesterday with the Bryant or Johnson plays.

It’s different, because both the Byrant and Johnson non-catches were ruled incomplete because the NFL has extra fun rules when the receiver is going to ground in the process of catching the ball: the receiver has to maintain control of the ball through hitting the ground.

McFadden didn’t go to the ground at all. He caught the ball, tucked it under his arm, ran several steps (laterally), and then had the ball pop out. Catch. Fumble. Seahawks recovery. Oh well. At least they made up for it later by giving the hawks a free timeout when they had twelve men on the field on a Cowboy fourth and short.

I have a hard time watching teams that aren’t “my” team. Since “my” time is the Lions, that means I’m pretty much done watching football for the year.

I’ll probably watch any other prime time game Denver is playing, because that defense looked awesome for the little bit I watched last night.

I miss Wayne Fontes. You could pretty much count on a win streak after the firing rumors started. It at least kept them in contention for a good chunk of the second half of the season.

How many times was McCown balled up on the ground, grabbing something clearly in pain, and they left him in there? I could give Pettine the benefit of the doubt up until now. Does he think Manziel is *that *bad? If so, why isn’t Austin Davis the backup?

Pettine and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo were both terrible. That wildcat play with Turbin from the Cardinals’ 5 yard line, the 3rd wildcat formation of the day, was insanity.

Our only hope Thursday is if Dalton plays like he did last year in Cincinnati on a Thursday night.

Man, Andrew Luck looks lost out there.

Well, it looks like the 49ers are doubling-down on their bid to be the most mediocre team in the league by trading Vernon Davis to the Broncos.

*The move will reportedly send Davis to the unbeaten Broncos for a sixth-round pick in 2017. The 49ers and Broncos will also swap sixth and seventh round picks in 2016, with the 49ers receiving the higher pick. *

Sounds like the team has thrown-in the towel already for this season. Maybe we should send the 9ers to L.A. and keep the Raiders in NorCal.

I have to question Carolina’s play calling. Sure, Newton’s a big guy and he’s capable of all this physical contact. But is it smart? If they keep running plays that get him banged around, a serious injury is inevitable. Why are they taking these risks? Especially in a game with so little meaning.

It’s a GREAT day to be a Bengals fan! WHO DEY!?!?!?

Thursday’s game is exactly the retarded sort of game the Browns have no business winning which they do. You’re gonna get bad Daltoned.

Is Indy’s o-line to blame for Luck’s regression? Is he hurt?

Panthers deserved to lose that game. I am tired as fuck of seeing them blow 4th quarter leads. When will Ron Rivera learn that prevent defense doesn’t work when there’s 10 minutes left

Being up isn’t a reason to stop playing and trying to score. Mike Shula needs to play like the Patriots and keep running up the score when you’re up by 50

Panthers have lost way too many games playing too conservatively and they never learn
can’t believe Gano actually made a 50 yard field goal.

They’re all in, now. Adam Sheffer and others are reporting Kaepernick is being benched, Blaine Gabbert well start against the Falcons.

I’ve been a long-time Kaepernick fan since his days at Nevada. Loved it when my 49ers drafted him, loved it when he became the starter, but I’m OK withthis. His problem is NOT “one read then run.” Much of the problems can be traced to some of the worst offensive line play I’ve ever seen, but he won’t pull the trigger quickly and decisively like you have to in that situation. He won’t trust his receivers, so he has to see them own before he’ll throw it. He doesn’t throw a very catchable ball. He’s feeling ghosts on the few occasions the O-line manages to kind of block. Worst of all he shuts down psychologically when faced with adversity.

Is Gabbert the answer? No. So what? They need to rebuild the O-line, and that ain’t happening this week.
