I was hoping y’all could help me find the stats. Before 2012, the Panthers would have lost last night’s game. The Indianapolis colts scored the first field goal in overtime. But the rules changed for regular season games in 2012. I was trying to google and find out how many times the team that kicks the first field goal in OT has actually lost the game, but my google-fu is weak and is only returning pages that explain the rule, not any teams that have benefited from its implementation.

Okay, I just found a reddit conversation that says this is the first time that the team to score first in overtime has lost the game. That might be why it’s hard to find statistics.

Interesting they’d fire Whisenhunt now, although he’s probably not a great coach for a rookie QB.

Kaepernick’s problems in San Fran are many, not the least of which is coaching. Jim Tomsula was a terrible hire, that was obvious right from the jump. We already know Gabbert sucks, so what is the point of benching Kaepernick? Is he going to clear his head and get right mentally? I doubt it. He doesn’t have the personnel or the coaching around him to get better. He’s screwed either way.

They’re all in, now. Adam Sheffer and others are reporting Kaepernick is being benched, Blaine Gabbert well start against the Falcons.

I’ve been a long-time Kaepernick fan since his days at Nevada. Loved it when my 49ers drafted him, loved it when he became the starter, but I’m OK withthis. His problem is NOT “one read then run.” Much of the problems can be traced to some of the worst offensive line play I’ve ever seen, but he won’t pull the trigger quickly and decisively like you have to in that situation. He won’t trust his receivers, so he has to see them own before he’ll throw it. He doesn’t throw a very catchable ball. He’s feeling ghosts on the few occasions the O-line manages to kind of block. Worst of all he shuts down psychologically when faced with adversity.

Is Gabbert the answer? No. So what? They need to rebuild the O-line, and that ain’t happening this week.

His problems are worse than bad O-line play, though that ain’t helping, defenses have figured out defending the run option so his only weapon is gone and he has no vision on the field. In just the Rams game he completely missed Mark Barron and caused the safety and completely missed an wide open Torrey Smith who had a clear, undefended shot at a 99-yard TD.

Thursday’s game is exactly the retarded sort of game the Browns have no business winning which they do. You’re gonna get bad Daltoned.

I know. It actually kinda scares me. I’d hate for our first loss to be to the Browns. But with Johnny Foot-Tall at the helm, I just don’t see it.

I think Roger Goodell needs to do something about punt returns. they’re too dangerous and lead to dangerous blocking

my proposal is just let the punter kick it as far as he can, and where it first touches the ground, that is where the other team takes possession
that way there will be fewer injuries
