NFL Week Five by Five

This is a good reason why it was a terrible call. I think it was a terrible call even if Carr maintained possession. Wasn’t it the same defensive player who was called for the worst roughing the passer call against Brady in the playoffs? That one was the worst I’ve ever seen

Hell, at that point, the passer became the tackler.

Good memory. It was indeed Chris Jones who hit Brady’s shoulder pad and got called for the penalty.

I think I saw it come up in the aftermath of the terrible roughing calls this weekend, but I couldn’t exactly remember who got the flag. Chris Jones has to feel like Clay Matthews felt when he kept getting all those nonsense calls

Game ending when 2 receivers ran into each other and knocked each other down was almost Brownsian.

Derek Carr should have thrown the ball 45 times. Jacobs is amazing, but the Chefs’ secondary is garbage, and Adams was heating them every single time.

Indeed, but the Raiders ability to find ways to lose games against the Chiefs (usually stupid penalties (which was a thing again last night)) is it’s own level of self-ownage.

Probably the league office made QB hits a point of emphasis in their weekly reviews with officials in light of the concussions. There’s always an overcorrection/overreaction after those.

So we should probably see zero roughing-the-passer calls next weekend.

At least, when the Raiders’ other receiver on his side isn’t running a pick play against him.

Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who was involved in that collision with his teammate at the end of the game, shoved a freelance member of ESPN’s production team to the ground while running off the field after the game.

The individual, who was transported to the hospital for treatment afterwards, filed a report with the Kansas City Police. Adams issued an apology to the man, but he is likely facing discipline from the NFL, as well as any potential charges from the police.

I really like what Chris Jones said about these roughing calls.

"They have put such an emphasis on roughing the passer penalties that we’ve got to be able to review it in the booth,‘’ Jones said. "That’s the next step. … Sometimes looks can be deceiving. Now it’s getting absurd. Now it’s costing teams games.

"I actually stripped the ball and gravity kind of took me to the ground. That’s a roughing the passer call at a critical situation in the game. It’s third down, and we’re down 10 points. … A lot of these roughing the passer calls would be called back [after video review].‘’

I agree. We are changing the outcomes of games based on bad calls that would be easily reversed if they were reviewable. It’s time to make them so.

Giants punter Jamie Gillian is still in England, after the team’s game against the Packers this past Sunday, due to a passport issue.

Gillian is Scottish, and moved to the U.S. as a teenager with his family. The ESPN article below indicates that he was originally in the U.S. on a NATO visa (apparently issued to his father), and never got his own work visa when he entered the NFL.

The Giants seem to feel that he’ll be able to get back in time for this weekend’s game.

Looks like it’s resolved:

Follow-up: Adams has been charged with misdemeanor assault, and has a court date in Kansas City on November 1st. The ESPN freelancer suffered several injuries, including whiplash and a possible concussion in the fall. As the Raiders have a bye this weekend, the NFL may wait a bit before issuing any disciplinary action.

Marshawn Lynch hired by Amazon? The man who doesn’t want want to talk? What could possibly go wrong?

He likes to talk, he just doesn’t like being grilled by reporters.

He’s hilarious when he was on Bear Grylls or all the times he was on Conan O’Brien, or when he was on the Netflix show Murderville.

Lynch is hilarious and personable when he wants to be. He was just a jerk to sports reporters. His episode of the Netflix/ Will Arnett show, “Murderville” was the best of them. I welcome anything that could add to the amount of non-standard commentary in NFL coverage.

Watch Marshawn and Gronk in this video. He’s really personable if he’s not in an adversarial situation.

Nick Adams, the most alpha of all alpha males, believes that Adams should be banned from the league and arrested for attempted murder. Oh, and also dropped from all fantasy teams.
