Nice little "Myst" like game

Some general hints (no specific spoilers, so feel free to read, but boxed just in case):
Everything that you can interact with, you need to interact with at some point or another.

It’s impossible to get “stuck”: If an option becomes unavailable, you can either make it available again with what you have, or you don’t need it any more.

Items disappear from your inventory when you don’t have use for them any more. The correlary is, if it is still in your inventory, you still have use for it.

Form follows function. If a thing has an obvious purpose, it serves that purpose. There’s nothing like using a letter opener as an improvised lockpick, like you see in some games.

If there’s something you need to do, but can’t do it, there’s a logical reason why you can’t do it. Correlary: If you can’t do something, and there’s no logical reason why you can’t, then you don’t need to do it. For instance, if you can’t open a cabinet, it’s because it’s locked, and you need to unlock it somehow. But if you can’t put a particular object on a particular shelf, it means that putting that object on that shelf wouldn’t accomplish anything.

There are a few places that might make you think they’re the end, but they’re not. When you’ve genuinely finished, the game will give you a congratulations message.
Nevermind my post; figured it out.

If you only have three, here are some hints to all of the ones you can find at this point, so you can see which you’re missing:

Have you utilized the diagram of the room to find one (not directly, but it is the first step)? Have you blown your nose? Have you checked the time? Have you admired the diagram on the easel?

I can’t even remember anymore where I found all three, although:

I do recall finding one by the tissue dispenser and another in the clock. What I got from the diagram on the easel is the code to remove the monkey doll’s head. Is there something else I’m missing from it? I also punched the code into the box on the sofa and it opened. I also took the middle hanging off the wall, where it displays a message in the dark, which helped to open the box. The room diagram has a little darkened upper right corner and I’m not sure what it might refer to. I’m clicking to no avail in the corresponding area of the room.

Thanks Leaper ! I finally got it.

The room diagram clue is what I needed.

Hopelessly stuck.

I currently have the complete screwdriver, the venus flytrap, the cranking dealie, the headless doll, the box that permits the inspection of marbles + one green marble, and an oddly shaped piece of metal.

Ah, you have a screwdriver! In these games, having a screwdriver generally means there are screws to be driven or undriven.

Ah, thanks.

I did the frog thing (my eyes must be going to have missed those screws ;)) and the reflection, and now have two metal pieces slotted into the wall safe. My inventory has a venus flytrap, the headless doll, the observation box, the painting (now keyless), and the green and blue marbles. The dots (or holes?) in the newly revealed niche look like they might have some significance, but no interaction comes to mind.

There’s something you need that it seems you haven’t found yet. Look high and low.

Finished! Thanks so much

I know I’m not this stupid!
I can’t find the doll or the sketch book! I see the venus flytrap, but can’t move it. I see the frog, but it doesn’t budge, either.

I’ve obviously missed a step, but I don’t know where.

I have the screwdriver handle, the hand drill handle, the green marble, and thing with five dowels and a button on the end. I found the book with the torn page, and I’ve reunited it. The pages don’t turn, so I’m assuming there’s another sketch book.
I’ve used the key, the paper, the wine/glass, and recovered the green marble. I found the circle, square and triangle numbers, but since I haven’t found the sketch book, the code doesn’t work. (yes, I cheated and looked at the spoiler.)
I just don’t want to wander around helplessly anymore. Just give me a little boost. Thanks.

As soon as I asked, I figured part of it out. I got the doll and the brass box. I found the formula for closet code and got the plant. I rescued the frog and his blue eye, but I don’t understand the picture arrow instruction.

The arrow and circles is an image of the clock. You can’t turn the clock’s “hand,” so perhaps you could mentally reorient the picture to match the clock?

No, no, I got that one. It’s the triangles on the sea picture I’m confused about. I put the blue gem in the box. It has 5 triangles, each oriented a little differently. I just can’t seem to figure out what they want me to do.
Where is the sketch pad I heard tell of?
Aw, maybe I am an idiot…

Check out the picture above the two seat chair.
I’ve beat that darn picture half to death. Each triangular button does the same thing; tilts it a little to the left, then straightens to the middle then a little to the right.

The blue marble viewer shows 5 triangles, each tilted to a different angle, but the picture doesn’t tilt as much as the triangles in the viewer.
I did Myst in less than two weeks, the sequels took a little longer, but I finished them all but the last. (I didn’t like that one.)
I didn’t have much trouble with MOTAS, but finished it.
This one is frustrating me no end… Maybe I’m just getting old.

You might notice that the triangles in the jewel or all pointing in one of four directions. The triangles on the picture are also all pointing in one of four directions.

I did the first Myst, found it frustrating but finished it ok. Some time ago I got another Myst game, don’t know which one, and didn’t get very far at all before giving up. I finished Vision quite quickly but have had no luck with one of the other ones linked to in this thread. I think sometimes the puzzles just click in your head, other times it doesn’t happen.

awk!I got the picture down, before I even read your help. There’s a wall safe (?) there. The piece of metal found with the plant fits, but it’s obvious I missed the rest of the lock. (I need a tearing out my hair smilie) There can’t possibly be another hiding place in this damn room!
I hated the Red Room, only because it glitched at the end, every time. This is frustrating in the same obstinate way.

I’m going go get some breakfast.

Since you guys got me hooked on these games, here’s my reciprocation:

A pretty good one, though there is a bit of pixel hunt for one particular item!

I can only assume that it must be addictive or time consuming, because it is blocked by my company’s nannyware.
