As I understand it, the evangelical vote is crucial in SC and she just doesn’t have it. The last few days in IA when she got some negative comments from DJT I think sealed her fate there. The challenge is for her to demonstrate that she can in anywhere but NH and I don’t see where she would.
She trails Trump by 30 points in SC Republican primary polling, before her third place finish in Iowa:

This, 100%. Trump is a horrible person, but absolutely nothing he did was as bad as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, not even the insurrection. No Republican is acceptable, they would all be almost equally bad for the country. Frankly with Trump you can at least count on his incompetence to slow him down.
Apologies if this extends a hijack, but how lousy is it that I find this such a challenging question. Sure, W was a doofus who relied on evil people, and the inexcusable wars and Patriot act were horrendous. But even with that, I’m not sure he challenged the very nature of our institutions or legitimized hatred and boorishness to the extent Trump did/does.
A whole lotta dead people and wasted $ (enriching a few) and gutted civil liberties vs undercutting the foundations of our democratic institutions and trashing any expectations of civility in society or government. I think I give the win to Trump based on what I expect to be long term deleterious effects. Trump has made the US a less free and less civil society.
I have a slightly more optimistic view about the insurrection. That Trump tried it was a horrible thing, but that he was stopped left and right overwhelmingly by Republicans, a lot of whom he personally appointed, chose or supported shows me that our institutions are stronger than we give them credit.
Gonna really depend on whether he wins again this fall…
Well, he did nominate Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. I’ll never forgive him for that.
He passed before Wiki became a thing where I could look it up easily but that’s how my father felt. Like I said, he’d heard about it in a theater on the other side of the world and there might have been telephone-game distortion before it got there.

When the plane hit the water he had a couple ribs stoved in and probably would not have made out had the pilot not grabbed the back of his mae west and pulled him out.
And to end the hijack, DeSantis is toast (yay) and Haley is browning nicely. I’m hoping Trump will not appeal at all to those on the fence and the old man will handily beat him.
