Nikki Haley announces US presidential run for 2024 (Not Trump please)

So does a flat earth.

That’s the thing. Trump wouldn’t want to start a hard war. That’s why he sucks up to Russia and China, even he knows a war with them would be pure loss.

But he could be interested in starting a small, easy war, because he’s a bully. Let’s not forget how he almost started a war with Iran.

I’m convinced the only reason he backed down was this:

Following the shootdown of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752—a civilian airliner—by the IRGC amidst the escalation, no additional military actions took place.[9]

Apparently, even Trump can figure out that starting a chain of events that led to a lot of unrelated civilian deaths was a bad thing. If that hadn’t happened, I’m sure the military strikes would have continued increasing. Maybe not technically a “war”, but it would do until a real war came along.

Iran wouldn’t be an easy war either. Not like China, but not a pushover. I’m sure he’d also give himself a medal if possible.

I’d be slightly amused if it turned out there were unofficial communications between the Haley and Biden camps re: dealing with Trump, though I know it would evoke a political firestorm.

Yes, but Trump is stupid enough to think it would be easy. That whole mess started because he believed his own bullshit about how the Iran nuclear deal was so awful. He’d also believe the “U!S!A! U!S!A!” Rah-rah bullshit about how they’d wipe out Iran in a week.

She would not necessarily become the heir apparent.
If Trump loses in November, he will run again in 2028.
And nobody in the Republican party will have the guts to tell him not to.

It could be that by then it will be a warden telling Trump that he can’t do it.

We can hope (though, as I understand it, being a convicted felon is apparently not, in and of itself, disqualifying for holding the office).

It’s also another four years in which rage, bad diet, and (possibly) a genetic predisposition to dementia can take their toll.

Moderating:

And yet again, Trump is being discussed in a non-Trump thread.

To the extent his actions impact Nikki Haley’s campaign, it’s fair to discuss him. Beyond that, you’re hijacking the thread. Please keep this in mind in making posts in this thread. Thanks.

Apologies, @Aspenglow. Thank you for keeping it on track.

By all means, please continue to discuss! Just take it to a different thread.

Godwin’s Second Law: The longer an online conversation about politics continues, the more chance there is that the conversation will become about Trump.

Whoops, Haley said another really dumb thing:

She’s going to endorse and campaign for Trump. If she doesn’t she’s politically dead

Better to die than join the undead (or so I learned playing D&D).

Nikki Haley showed up on SNL to ask “Donald” some questions. Will it help her gain MAGA votes? Probably not, but it’s fun, and that’s why we’re all here, right?

Her SNL appearance was just an opportunity for her to acknowledge her Civil War gaffe in an off-handed way and get it behind her.

Plus, it was free exposure. Trump gets it constantly by being deplorable; Haley has had her brushes with deplorability (see ‘causes of Civil War not including slavery’). But she has zero chance of getting a tenth of the free publicity her rival gets.

So look for her to try to get booked on all the talk shows. Hell, she’d probably do Dancing with the Stars if they’d have her.

My first reaction was “Why are they giving ONE candidate a free platform like this?”
But my second thought was “Oooh, this’ll really stick in Donald’s craw. You rock, 30 Rock…”

I could see her following Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani on Masked Singer.

I’m sure they’ve offered an invitation to Trump (in fact, because the Equal Time provision is still in effect, I believe they have to) but since he no longer needs free publicity, nor enjoys SNL, he won’t take them up on it.
