Who said anything about friends? Having an infamous figure like Trump on your show would presumably drive up ratings, though I wonder how many cast member would refuse to show.
This isn’t about ratings, it’s about ego - if Lorne Michaels doesn’t like someone, that person won’t be on his show. Period. SNL is his fiefdom and he is its absolute ruler, and if the network has a problem they can take a long walk off the top of 30 Rock. At this point, it’s not like he needs the extra money.
Plus, while he’d be hilarious, it wouldn’t be because he actually delivered any funny scripted lines. It would be because of the absolute train wreck Trump “trying to be funny” would become. Could you imagine Trump trying to stay on script in his current addled state? Could you imagine the cast trying to keep up with doing improv around whatever weird shit just come out of his mouth?
Didn’t Trump host SNL early in his 2016 campaign? I seem to remember complaining about the “equal time” thing back then, and was told it didn’t apply to SNL for some reason.
The more he rants about the “failing New York Times” and how SNL has gone down the tubes, Trump just betrays how much these and other New York institutions mean to him. He can camp out in Mar a Lago and play Floridian, but he has always measured himself by how he’s treated by New York society and media.
All of you quoted blew past the mod note linked to above. Please remove your discussions about Trump to a Trump thread. This thread is about Nikki Haley.
There will be no more mod notes in this thread about hijacks. I will issue warnings.
In the Nevada primary, Haley finished a distant second to “none of the above.” It was a weird situation, as Trump wasn’t on the ballot and Nevada Republicans will actually award their delegates in a caucus on Thursday. But no politician wants to see that headline.
Just to note: I understand the intent of the title update, but the use of the phrase “Not Trump please” made me laugh.
On Haley: the RNC who are running low on cash both nationally and locally would very much like Haley to drop out so they can focus on fundraising and spending toward the general election. I doubt she will heed this request unless coerced by carrot and/or stick, at least not before the SC primary.
I’m guessing that the giganto-donors who are supporting Haley have made it clear to the RNC that they are all-in on defeating Trump.
Bribing Haley to drop out won’t make those donors suddenly believe that a Trump presidency is in their interest. On the contrary, they know that since he knows they’re working against him, he will delight in revenging himself on them if he gets the power. They can’t go back to him. Their dice are cast.
