Could she be announcing a running mate? Yes, it’s premature and likely pointless, but could get her plenty of press ahead of the Saturday South Carolina primary, especially if it’s a popular figure.
I’d be surprised if she’s here next week. She’s going to get buried in her own state this weekend. Money will dry up and without money she’ll be “suspending” her campaign just like the others. I don’t think it would have made any difference if she had gone negative earlier, the party would have fallen in line behind her opponent no matter what she did.
I suspect you’re right. And even if Trump were to break his neck in a pair of his fugly gold sneakers tomorrow, the GOP is almost certainly not going to turn to Nikki to be the nominee.
Is it weird I find those strangely comforting numbers?
I mean the old me, say circa mid-2020 in the immediate wake of the failed soft coup, might have been appalled that Trump was such a consensus and overwhelming favorite among GOP primary voters. Ever-more-cynical 2024 me finds it cheering that maybe 1/3 of primary voters, who lean towards the more highly motivated, are interested in someone else.
Sure Trump will beat Haley and crushingly so. Sure, the vast, vast majority of those primary voters will tack back to the good ship Trump for the general. But it does give me hope that there are enough disenchanted Republican voters to maybe sit out a Trump general election, even if they can’t bring themselves to vote for those perfidious Democrats.
Perhaps at least enough to overcome the mildly anti-Biden Democratic Party voters that might be willing to cut off their noses to spite their faces for the sake of their principles and/or ennui.
Happy post 666 up there, you.
Heard on satellite radio this morning: If Haley is shooting for a run in 2028, staying in these primaries will not hurt her. If she is shooting for a run in 2048, when she will still be younger than the two current frontrunners, staying in won’t hurt her.
If DJT is deceased or crippled beyond functioning in the job even to the MAGAts’ minimal standards, they’re gonna nominate somebody. If not Haley, who do you propose?
I’m not so sure they’d be willing to forgive his being in a wheelchair. These days no President could get away with what FDR did (a largely-cooperative media that never showed his incapacity to walk).
These people are not much on compassion for the differently-abled.
In case you’re thinking that Haley is a decent choice for POTUS, I’d like to point out that ahe agrees with the Alabama Supreme Court that embryos created in the IVF process should be considered babies.
She’s been too critical of Trump this race for them to turn to her, I think. However unlikely, I could see it being DeSantis, Abbott, Scott, Greene, Boebert, etc.
According to several reports, one of Haley’s own children is the result of fertility treatments.
I have no doubt that Haley will say whatever the Christian nationalists want her to say on all topics relating to child-bearing. Even if she has to denounce her own past actions.
But this particular topic may be a loser for the GOP. Outlawing fertility treatment will result in many fewer births, not in more births–a contradiction of what conservatives stand for. It will motivate voters to get to the polls and thereby keep Republicans out.
It does kind of make sense, though. Most IVF processes produce more embryos than are actually used, and so there’s the issue of what to do with those extras. Some people dispose of them, while others store them indefinitely.
If you think those embryos are people, then both those options seem bad. Better to never create them in the first place.
