I don’t understand this to be true. Maybe in one or two individual states (New Hampshire, specifically), but not across the board.

Because having a Secretary of Whatever would be hi-larious, and not in a “You won’t believe what Trump did now” way like we used to have.
In parliamentary systems, it’s called minister without portfolio.

Especially since most Haley voters in the primaries were Democrats or Dem-leaning independents.
Anecdote here: I’m a Wisconsin voter (and I haven’t voted for a Republican, ever). Our primary is in early April, but I was mailed my absentee ballot over a week ago, a couple days before Haley dropped out. So, for the first time ever, I “crossed over” and voted for Nikki (reluctantly giving up my chance to show love for Biden on this occasion). Why? Because, at least when the stakes are low, I will jump at the chance to vote AGAINST Trump, over voting FOR anyone at all.
If Trump were to settle down in some village in Idaho or Oklahoma, and run for dog-catcher, I would consider moving there and establishing legal residence, just so I could vote against him. I hate that asshole THAT much. (Can I say that outside the Pit?).

Why would I, who with rare exceptions, has voted solidly Democratic for 50 years, trust a Vice President who campaigned for a year raging
Who cares about you (from a political strategy viewpoint)? You’ve solidly voted Democratic and you’ll continue to vote Democratic and - to take the cynical view - if Biden picked Haley, the spin machine world start working to clean her up and turn her into a moderate - not too distant from Obama and Biden - that’s perfectly compatible with Democratic theory. In time, it’s just as likely that you’d believe it, too.
Consider that Biden is probably the nearest politician that we have to Ronald Reagan. You’re voting for him and you probably have institutional hatred of Reagan.

Reality is pretty minimally relevant to politics. That’s not just for the right wingers.

I’d venture to guess that Biden would have a much easier time beating Trump by replacing Harris with Haley.
It would be an obvious gimmick, akin to choosing Sarah Palin. A sign of desperation. And it would piss off a lot of Democrats, some of home might decide to stay home because of it. It’s not going to happen, because it’s a bad idea that would make it less likely he’d win.
You would need Harris to voluntarily step down for X reason (health scare in the family, a job offer with better pay at CNN, etc.)
If Biden is clear and free to pick someone new, he can do what’s the most useful for the country.
I think it’s a ludicrous idea for many reasons, foremost that Nikki Haley wouldn’t take it (she’s almost certainly going to endorse Trump), but also because she’d almost certainly hurt Biden more than she’d help him.

I think it’s a ludicrous idea
Indeed. I’d be amazed if it happened and don’t see any big need to do it.

I’d venture to guess that Biden would have a much easier time beating Trump by replacing Harris with Haley.
Got it.

. . . she’d almost certainly hurt Biden more than she’d help him.
Agreed.
As a centrist Democrat, if anyone would like the Biden-Haley idea, it should be me. But I think it would be perceived as too clever to be respected.
Biden’s strengths include that he’s honest, normal, and calm in crisis. Taking on a GOP veep would be correctly seen as a sign of desperation.
I fear Biden is pretty far behind. But that’s no reason to dig a bigger hole.
Plus, I think Harris has grown into the role. I’ve always liked her; I like her more now.

I fear Biden is pretty far behind.
On some of the Real Clear Politics input polls (the ones that make up the RCP average), hasn’t Biden drawn closer in recent weeks? On two of them, Biden even had a small lead.
As Nikki Haley has withdrawn from the race, and this thread has moved on to talking about Trump and Biden, I’d respectfully suggest it may be time to close this one.
Moderating:
We don’t generally close threads unless they become problematic. However, as @flurb points out, it is getting off topic. Please take those discussions elsewhere.
This thread will remain open to discuss Haley’s impact on the race going forward, if she has one.
Arizona is having it’s super unimportant Presidential Preference election next week. The Primaries are in July.
I’m seeing new Haley signs on the side of the road. It would make me laugh long and loud if Haley beat trump without being in the race. I will report back if this thread is still open on the 20th.
That’s interesting. Arizona is going to be super important in November.
Haley won’t beat Trump, but she will expose the extent of his weakness in your state. I’ll be very interested to hear the numbers when you have them!
I’m sure you already know that Arizona is weird, but the Preference election is still really out there for strange.
This is the election where we all change our party and rage vote for whoever will hurt the other party most. I voted for Nikki.
I haven’t seen any Nikki bumper stickers or street signs until last week. Now I’m seeing them all over the place. I’m really hoping that enough Arizona Nikki voters might be enough to tip Honest Don into stroking out. NOT WISHING DEATH! Just hoping for really bad health for the rest of his very long life.
Of course all of us “swingers” will be changing our party back on the 20th, this is tradition after all.
