I can’t seem to find a decent answer on this and I don’t know anyone that actually has a Wii, so here it goes.
Does the Opera browser on the Wii enable you to stream audio and video? I was wondering because I was telling one of my beer drinking buddies last night during the Mavs game that you could surf the internet on a Wii to check out stuff during half time, right on the TV!
He says, “Cool! We could watch pornotube!”
But, it would be interesting to watch some stuff on YouTube or something or stream Yahoo Music on one?
Depends on the player. Youtube generally works, Google Video works. Some other sites work just fine.
The issue is that most of the streaming sites use Flash, and it’s only got Flash 7. So that can be a hindrance. I’ve watched MST3K episodes streamed from Youtube with no problems.
Is the software on the system able to be upgraded? Or are you just stuck with it?
Also, is there a way to hack the device to where you can put your own rom images on it to play whatever games you want? I read that it had the ability to play many system’s games, and you can legally download the rom images off of the internet if you own the respective cartridges. I have tons and tons of them, but the hardware has sort of gone kaput over the years…
It has already been upgraded once, so that’s not an issue. What is an issue, however, is that anything beyond Flash 7 is not made available to non-PC devices, such as the Wii. PS3 runs into the exact same problem with some flash-based websites that require newer versions, as do cell-phones, among others.
(DL TV is the closest thing to “The Screen Savers” from Tech TV, complete with Patrick Norton and Robert Heron as Hosts, twice weekly, for free)
I personally have gotten older episodes of Retarded Animal Babies to run on my Wii. RAB is essentially feels the same entertainment ‘value’ as Happy Tree Friends… Think “Drawn Together” type humor, but with even less control / censoring/
