Well, I guess anyone who’s seen a movie (Silence of the Lambs?) in the last 30 years could have seen that coming, but I didn’t.
I thought they’d resolve the Carver story line, but I can understand why they didn’t. He (she?) is scary as hell.
I was also surprised by the revelation about Ava. I could have dredged up some sympathy for her, but I can’t forgive her for what she said (and did) to Adrian, when she was confronted about sleeping with him (her son). “You’re adopted, and your parents didn’t want you because you were mentally unbalanced.”
Actually, I won’t forgive the writers for that. Infants don’t show “mental” problems.
And then Julia, Sean, and Christian seemed to lose their disgust for her. “Oh, it’s okay, they’re not related, we’re outta here.” Somebody needed to come to Adrian’s rescue there, and they really dropped the ball.
I liked the Joan Rivers story line, and I can’t help but think she regrets at least some of the work she had done.
My wife and I had a bet about the Carver. She thought it was the son. I said “No, too obvious, it’s gotta be Ava.” Turns out we were both wrong, which is exactly what the writers had in mind.
Not only did I not see that coming, but I didn’t ever realize it when Christian pulled out and left. I though he was having a crisis of concious, silly me.
My guess (you said no spoilers, right?) is that Julia’s new boyfriend is the carver.
I would also like to add that I LOVE watching shows commercial free. I wish there were something I could do to convince the networks to do that constantly. Oh yeah, I forgot - they used to when I first had cable, and nobody seemed to care when they stopped.
Curious about one thing - Adrian killed himself, right? We had some confusion over whether Ava was responsible - something about the camera angle.
I think Adrian killed himself. Looks like he started out intending to kill Ava (and then maybe himself), but he couldn’t bring himself to kill his mom. Ava seemed genuinely surprised and anguished about it.
She can’t hope to get away with it, can she?
I liked the no-commercials too, but not enough to run out and buy Stackers. It was disconcerting watching Ryan and Julian thank the sponsor at the end – “Hey, didn’t you just get slashed by the Carver?”
Wouldn’t that have been hilarious had they shown Christian all cut up while thanking the sponsor? Of course, we didn’t actually see him get slashed. Just like we didn’t actually see Ava get on the plane…maybe I’m still right!
Hey, what was the revelation about Ava? I was flipping channels and flipped back when Julia was blackmailing Ava but I totally missed the revelation? And what was Ava’s surgery for? Was it connected to the revelation? I’ve only been half-assedly following it this season.
tremorviolet: Gee - you picked the wrong time to flip. Ava dared Christian to “conquer” her or she wouldn’t leave Matt, so they started to have sex. He, um, put it in, and then he shockingly pulled out right away and left.
Then he confronted Sean with the news: Ava is a man. He could tell b/c she wasn’t quite deep enough. Matt and Adrian were too inexperienced to notice. Alec Baldwin was her former “husband” who agreed to do the surgery for her b/c Ava was a gay man in love with him. Ultimately, after trying to make it work, he just couldn’t get past that he was looking at his work, and he wasn’t gay. So they thought they could adopt, but after a while he couldn’t give her what she needed, so they left, just before Alec was to finish the surgery. Alec then agreed to return and finish the surgery after all those years.
Man, I totally missed almost all of that. I saw Alec Baldwin in the operating room and knew he had a connection with Ava but didn’t know what it was. Hmmm, I suspected something like that but couldn’t figure out how she coudl have sex with Matt and Adrian. Thanks for enightening me, Dooku…
Question about the Alec Baldwin character – he was standing at the fountain, with his back to Sean and Christian – he turned around so slowly, it was obviously supposed to be a dramatic moment. Sean and Christian looked, well, if not shocked, at least nonplussed.
It made me think that he had had surgery to give him Alec Baldwin’s face.
My guess is that Alec Baldwin demanded that his entrance be dramatic. You know, the ol’…“Surprise! I’m bestowing my Holy Hollywood visage unto this TV show!”
Or, it’s another “maybe this is The Carver!” red-herring type of moment, like the knife-selling guy acting all creepy.
You’re probably right. He might be the biggest guest star they’ve had. I actually like the guy. Saw him once on The Daily Show, and he didn’t show much ego. Surprised.
BestKittyFriend believes the Carver is Kimber. I was in the Ava camp (though I have to admit to a fleeting thought it was Julia’s new boyfriend, or (gasp) Julia herself). I hope it’s not Kimber, just because I think the writers are more talented than that.
I’m also most curious as to how long I have to wander around the house on Tuesday nights with the remote clasped in my paw not knowing what to do with myself.
I was really hoping Adrian would stab Ava, not himself. I am guessing that Ava will return next season. I too am guessing Julia’s new boyfriend is the carver but it could be anyone. I doubt that the carver really slashed Christian and what was with that? The carver was so precise with his other victims and just whales on Christian? I can’t believe we have to wait until next Spring/Summer to find out!
You can tell how much I love this show because when I asked a friend of mine if he watched the season finale, he said he was watching the vice-presidential debates instead, and not only did I not know they were on that night, it occured to me that I wouldn’t even have considered watching them instead of Nip/Tuck.
I don’t have any carver theories, although Julia’s boyfriend seems plausible. Sucks to be Christian - if he gets slashed, we’ve seen that they fix that up pretty well, but I think the big thing is that he’s going to get raped by the Carver, that’ll be a thing they have to deal with next season.
After re-thinking, I don’t believe the Carver is Julia’s boyfriend. The build is all wrong.
Here’s what we know:
The carver uses drugs to subdue the victims
The carver doesn’t leave any DNA evidence on the victims that are raped
The carver knew about Sean’s security system
The carver has a very slight build
I am in the camp that the carver is a woman. Here’s my thought process:
The carver uses drugs because they have to, indicating poor upper body strength
The carver doesn’t leave DNA not because they use a condom, but because they are using artificial means
The carver is very slight-of-build… Sean is not a big guy, and the carver was slighter muscularly and about the same height
I had thought it was Ava, but her getting on the plane while Christian was being attacked nixes that idea. As I mentioned above, BKF thinks it’s Kimber, but Kimber is very… endowed, where the carver is not. I don’t think it’s going to be someone we’ve never seen before. That leaves:
Liz. No, because the body type is wrong.
Julia. Maybe. She’s got the knowledge, and the potential for instability.
Julia’s mom. Likely not.
The girl that Matt and his friend almost killed. Again, from what I remember the body type is wrong, but don’t count on my memory for that.
Sean’s daughter. Mmmmm… doubt it.
I highly doubt it’s Matt, but there’s always the possibility. He’s certainly nuts enough.
And I think the reason the carver “whaled” on Christian was exactly because they’ve been able to do such a great job fixing his previous victims, and by not being so precise in the cuts Sean would have a much harder time of it. Or it could always be because the carver had an extra-special hate on for Christian.
The web site has no info on when the next season starts. Do we know for sure it’s been picked up?
