And I almost forgot… Fearless. Though there is already a DVD for this, it’s of the cheap-o “$6 at Target” variety, with only a fullscreen transfer and no extras to speak of. At the very least, we need to see a widescreen version of this. NOW.
One of the most ammazing docmentaries I have ever seen, The Private Lives of Plants is begging to be put on DVD. The time-lapse photography is absolutely amazing. I am not keeping my hopes up, even though BBC has released other David Attenborough series on DVD.
Unfortunately, Speilbergo has a policy against doing commentary tracks. He seems to think that if one of his movies wasn’t able to speak for itself to you, then you’re a dope.
There was a 13 part series back in 1970 written and produced by Alistair Cooke called AMERICA , a personel history of the United States. Never made it to VHS, I do not know why. Does not air on any of the various cable channels. I do not know why.
2nd Steve Allens MEETING OF MINDS. This has nearly disappeard. Two episodes are available over at www.steveallenonline. com I want them all.
Animal House has received 2 releases, both still in print. A regular, bare-bones edition and a special edition.
I third (or fourth) Miller’s Crossing. I’m a huge Coen Bros. fan and there’s a gaping hole in my DVD collection where MC and Barton Fink belong.
In a few recent threads about the horror genre, I was reminded of how much I love The Haunting (1963) and how disgusted I am that the dismal 1999 remake is available on DVD while the sublime original is still missing in action.
David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch has yet to see a region 1 release. I’m tempted to get the Japanese special edition (with Director’s commentary!) but, so far, I’ve balked at the ridiculously high price.
[sarcasm]I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Miller’s Crossing yet, but boy would I like to have it on DVD.[/sarcasm] Franlky, that it hasn’t been released, especially considering the popularity of OBWAT? and Fargo, is dumbfounding.
I’d also like to see a el-deluxo version of the original Bedazzled with commentary by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, although something tells me I can’t get everything I want…

Iron Chef (Japanese version, Iron Chef USA is on DVD. Why?)
Miller’s Crossing has a release date on May 20th, 2003 according to deepdiscountdvd.com…this is the first hard date I’ve seen on this film.
Dancing With Wolves is being re-released on the same date as a THREE disc set (the film will be available on 2 discs with the 3rd being the extras). They are intending to release the “long” version that had been available on Laserdisc.
As for my wish? I would love to see Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones on DVD. It’s so rare, I’ve never even see it available on VHS!
Gee, I’m pretty stoked that we got The Transformers: The Movie and Strange Brew.
But I would love to see complete seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street, G.I. Joe (Rhino already does Transformers DVDs), and the director’s cut of RoboCop. I don’t think the current bargain release is the unrated version that’s on the OOP Criterion Collection disc.
About the Porco Rosso, Pom Poko thing there was a universal region boxed set released in Japan with that and lots of others. I bought it at ebay and am waiting its arrival.
Personally I’m frothing at the mouth over Married with Children season-sets and of course Trey Parker’s/Matt Stone Orgazmo with drunken-director commentary!
