Nice to see watchwolf49 openly admit to trolling. That’s usually the beginning of the end.
As for NFbW, I can’t speak to whether he’s the most pig-headedly annoying poster we’ve had but one-note dogmatics usually flame out much earlier than this and get banned. NFbW manages to stay within the rules and thus continues to regale us with his own personal bizarre brand of political analysis.
He’s a bit like the Terminator: He can’t be bargained with. He can’t be reasoned with. He doesn’t understand logic, or citations, or reality. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until the thread is dead.
And the toadying! I mean, I’m probably one of the stronger Obama supporters on this board (albeit hardly an unqualified one) and yet every time I look at the word “masterful” in that Syria thread I think “You utter suckass”. Whenever he weighs in on a subject, even though he’s usually ostensibly on the same side as I am, I usually give up posting because frankly I don’t want to fight a two-front war by having to deal with both the “everything Obama does is wrong” crowd and his equally irrational “everything Obama does is right” nonsense.
He did get suspended for a month. Then when he came back, he bumped all his stupid threads so he could continue to tell us all the “masterful” things that Obama has been doing.
Look out guys. Now the people who have commented on this thread will be added to his Nixonian list of enemies. Although, this quote does nicely demonstrate his lack of reading comprehension.
Good comparison with the Terminator, although my mental picture of him would look more like the Energizer Bunny, rather than Arnold Schwarzenegger, spinning his wheels and beating his drum of stupidity.
As already pointed out, you have to agree with not only his positions, but with his bizarre logic also, or else “You are wrong”.
Interesting … not one comment on my analysis of the elections in Egypt … thank you all for agreeing with me and NFbW. I like Obama, 5% cut in my taxes let’s me spend another week in Key West this year. Trolling the anklebiters, that’s rich …
The truly depressing part, as I think I’ve mentioned to him before, is that he’s just not very good at it.
I’ve asked him to up his game, but I don’t think he’ll ever figure out how to effectively troll. Just keeps on bringing that tired, weak, played-out shtick.
I have conducted statistical analysis on relative trolling rates on the SDMB, with the assistance of renowned statistician Marge N. Overra, and the results largely support the expected outcomes. On days ending with a “y”, NFBB far and away exceeds the norms for trollistic postication, with a ratio of an astonishing 23.1%. However, there are occassions when this is exceeded by several orders of magnitude by other posters.
By an odd coincidence, the relative prevalence of the word “regards” is an precise correlate to that phenomenon! We are currently considering various forms of data analysis to determine the exact cause of the otherwise puzzling fact.
I don’t think NfbW’s a troll. He comes across as a True Believer, but the main thing he believes in is his infallibility - a not uncommon ailment 'round these parts. It’s just his political alignment that’s unusual. Infer from that what you will.
Edit: Okay, in fairness, his political alignment and his, er, joie de vivre.
Well, I agree he isn’t a troll, but his political alignment isn’t that far out of the mainstream of the lunatic fringe of the SDMB, if there is such a thing. And that’s one of the things that still gives me hope, so to speak, about the SDMB. There still exists a hard core of true believers who can still recognize delirium even when it appears in one of their own. It is unsurprising that folks like XT, who holds the distinction of first Pitting our pal, or John Mace and others who generally come across as rational even when they disagree, made the diagnosis of Internet Crackpot as soon as they did. But I am struck, as I sometimes am, that even (for example) Dissonance and RedFury and others (sorry if I missed your names - you know who you are) can also see when one who would otherwise be simpatico based only on his political positions has taken that long step off into La-la Land.
Like I say, it gives me hope. At least there still exists on the SDMB those who can distinguish between debate, even heated debate, and delusion.
Anyway, back to the Pitting.
NotfooledbyW, what is the source of your delusions of adequacy? Were you dropped on your head as a child, or was it more recent?
Regards,
Shodan
PS - dasmoocher, I don’t want you to think I missed your contributions to the effort to keep NotfooledbyW from making all our heads explode, but I am sorry I don’t know much about your political positions. So I am not sure if I should include you in the moderate liberal, moderate, or the extreme hard far-right neo-fascist Republican we-do-whatever-we-are-told-as-long-as-it’s-cruel camp to which I belong. In any case, thanks for your contributions, which I have been reading with interest.
Now the silly twit can’t code a quote. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any more irritating.
Along with the usual other irritating nonsense - John Mace has responded to his claim that he never argued that it was not a coup by producing the quote where he said it was arguably not a coup. How do you debate someone who does not accept the syllogism of “If A is true, then not-A is false”.
The funny thing is that was just a few days ago, long after he went a tirade claiming he never argued it wasn’t a coup. Well, the first time he went on that tirade, that is. He brings it up again yesterday, despite the fact that he just said it was arguably not a coup a few days before.
Perhaps when he wrote “arguably” he really meant “not arguably”. In Fooled-speak, a word means “just what he chooses it to mean - neither more nor less.”
In real life, I bet he makes distinctions between saying Yes in agreement and nodding his head in agreement.
Picture him at a neighborhood BBQ:
“You are wrong to assume that I agreed with that statement [after it’s been shown to be incorrect], because I never said ‘Yes’. I only nodded my head when you said it and you can’t prove to me that I nodded my head. I just looked down at my shoes several times, but I never looked at my shoes…because they were already tied. So there! John Mace is failed!”
Hmmm. You cold start a book with a line like that…
Oh, and I got a bit tripped up by his crappy coding. He didn’t actually say “it was not a coup”, that was someone else he quoted (if you can call his inability to code, quoting). But once again, he endorsed that view.
