It strikes me that the Virginia contingent is going to have to leave at an ungodly hour. It must be at least 5 hours drive time. Unless we’re planning to get to the Faire around noon or so, you guys are going to have to be up with the chickens.
The only people whose starting points I know are Euty, Biggirl et al., TruePisces, Pucette, Cartooniverse, iampunha, RaCha’ar. While this pretty much covers most of the compass points surrounding my compound, if someone is coming from other than New England, NYC, Orange County, or via the NJTurnpike, please post and let me know.
Hell, getting up with the chickens is the best time to road-trip. Less idiots on the roads to deal with.

I’d like to get there as early as possible. The doors open at 10:00, IIRC, and there’s definitely enough to do to fill an entire day. Out of deference to those traveling long distances, noon would be the latest I’d want to get there.
I want to take this opportunity to mention that our friend Bill will be joining us as well, so if TruePisces can add him to the list, I’d appreciate it.
I dunno if tickets can be purchased yet, but I went to the website and it seems they have group rates, which appear to be laughably cheap, especially when compared to even the advance ticket price. They are only available by phone, though.
This is something we should definitely look into. It could save us a bundle. I’m willing to do this, but we need definite commitments. (and I may require advance payment, as it looks like it could set me back some initially. More on that as things develop.)
So anyone who thinks it would be worth it to them to save on tickets, post here and I’ll keep a tally of who wants to buy in advance.
Could we get some sort of list of prices … individual vs. group? I’m just wondering because I might be getting a job soon that might disagree with the fest (theoretically and all that jazz, but still).
Verify this with the site I posted earlier in this thread, but if I remember correctly, individual tickets are in the neighborhood of $16.75, and group tickets are in the neighborhood of $11.95. which means we’ll each save in the neighborhood of $5.00, unless I’m living in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
Actually, in my case, I’ll save a lot more, because I’m buying four tickets. Ditto for Houseman and Biggirl. I don’t know what constitutes a “group,” but I think it’s definitely worth looking into.
It’s advisable to buy your ticket in advance anyway, and should it happen that you can’t go, then maybe we can scalp it for you or something.
I only pointed it out because saving a finnif is nothing to sneeze at, and I volunteered to commandeer the effort because I’m just a helluva guy.
Well, golly! If we’re going to get a group rate, you can put me down as one who hopes to be in the group. I love groups.
(I wonder if a gang rate would be what we’re better qualified for, though. Or perhaps a glob?)

[E-hem]. I am thuroughly flummuxed that neither TruePisces, Pucette, nor even my close friend Biggirl have mentioned this to me.
All who know me can easily recall that I am always up for Dope meetings, and I’ve never been to one of these … things before.
August 3 is a ways off, so I have no reason to suspect I can’t come.
I’m bumping this and reminding people who want to save a Lincoln on their ticket to contact me (via this thread, what the heck, it’ll keep it near the top) and lemme know, daggumit.
I should put a cut-off date on the group rate thing just to add some Hitchcockian suspense to the whole enterprise.
