NY Ren Faire - Interested?

I will try to check and verify what line goes through town. And to get schedules and whatnot. But the end of the month is crunch time, so I may not be able to do this until Friday or Saturday. But I’ll post as soon as I know.

Honestly, the train is ridiculously close to my house, so picking you up is so not a problem.

Friday or Saturday? Damn, Dave, I mean we only have a little more than a month until the Fest. You’re giving me absolutely NO planning time here!

Seriously, as long as I know the night before what train I’m taking and when I’m getting there, it’s all good.

While you’re checking, can you see if I can get a train from one of those airports to your station? This would make my trip much easier.

Wow. Trains from Newark airport to Pearl River? I dunno…

From LaGuardia, maybe, but I’m a little out of my league here.

I’ll do my best, but I may need an assist.

In any case, the crunch continues. Saturday will be research day.

Actually, trains from Newark might not be as bad. There’s a NJ Transit stop at the airport. At the very least, you could take the NJ Transit in to Penn Station, then take the next one (whatever line THAT may be) up to Casa Dave. Not sure of the times on these, but I do know they run.

I was under the impression that these trains went to Hoboken, and thus necessitated transferring. But I always commuted by bus when I worked downtown.

I’m gonna get the Straight Dope on this, though, rest assured.

I’ve been on trains that have actually stopped at the airport. Trust me. I am the Straight Dope on this!

Honestly, I think it’s fairly new. They call it “airtrain” or some silly such thing. It’s along the regular NE Corridor line, some of which make stops at EWR.

I just checked the NJTransit site and found out that the Pascack Valley Line, which is the one which runs through Rockland County, NY, does not run on weekends. I’ve lived in this town pretty damn near all my life, and never noticed the trains didn’t run on Saturdays. Go figure.

Apparently, we’re such a bedroom community, we completely distance ourselves from New York City except during the five-day work week.

Alternate plans are in order.

Do you want me to come as the Bishop or the Da Vinci wannbe?

I’ll probably come as fantasy gypsy, so take your pick.

Tough call. As the Bishop I could persecute the heathen but as the Da Vinci Wannabe I could try out new sonnet like pick up lines until True Pisces hits me with something.

Decisions, decisions.

Now THAT’S entertainment!

Yeah, I’d pay money to see that.

We groundlings are so easy to please.

You’d pay money eh? So how much are we talking?

Well, being a groundling, I’m not exactly rolling in dough…

Perhaps I could take it out in trade.

You in need of a rat-catcher, guv’nor?

I am bumping this because I want to make sure everyone who is driving to my house notifies me regarding who they are and where they are coming from. I need to find good directions for all of you, and it would help me if I knew this information sooner rather than later. With the hot weather here, the bug business is very busy, and I don’t want to be too distracted as the month wears on to provide proper directions.

So please email me, folks. I need to know where you’re coming from if you’re driving to Casa Dave-Guy.

And Zyada, if you arrive early enough Saturday morning, there’s a possibility I can meet you at Newark Airport myself. If not, please let me know, and I’ll get you good directions from there.

Well, I was thinking of flying in late (like 11 or midnight arrival), staying at an airport hotel, and driving in the next morning. Depending on how doable that is. Otherwise I have to take some time off to get in at a reasonable hour.

That’s real doable. I’m only maybe an hour’s drive from Newark. Keep me posted. I might could still pick you up Saturday a.m., if you don’t mind a fairly early wake-up call. Otherwise I’ll give you the best directions I can muster and my phone number and leave you to the wilds of northern NJ/southern NY.

I wanted to bring my 5 & 7 y/o girls but my ex-wife has 'em that weekend.

If anyone has found an inexpensive carrier / flight coming into ISP (Long Island Islip MacArthur Airport) and needs a place to stay, I have a house with 2 guest rooms 20 minutes west of the airport. On the downside; I don’t cook, so don’t expect any meals. On the upside; use of the pool is covered under the complimentary rate of $0.

Questions about my sanity or character might be “answerable” by biggirl or other attendees of her Hoosiers in NY soire’e

I’ll re-read through the earlier directions, but I may need something more specific. We’re right near several major highways, so I don’t think it will be a problem, and you sound really close anyway.

I just have to discuss the whole thing with my wife to see if she intends on coming or not. Eh. Whatever.
