Man, I was trailing by 21 going into Monday night. My opponent, The Lorem Ipsums, had two players vs. my one, and both my opponent’s players were at least as good as my one (so I think). A loss for sure. Amazingly, his two players only recorded 8 points, but sadly I couldn’t overcome the deficit. I can’t believe Chad 85 only had one catch for 14 yards, especially considering what Brady did.
BTW, I made a motion to claim Steve Smith. How does that work? Do I have to endure a waiver process? How does that work? Can someone else claim him and how do you resolve multiple claims? I’m a fantasy rookie and haven’t a clue.
I claimed him too. I think there’s a priority system that starts with reverse draft order, but when you claim a player off waivers, you go to the bottom of the list. At the moment, I think I’m 7th on the list, so if you’re higher than me, you’ll get him. Kinda surprised to see he got cut…
Players on waivers work differently than free agents…a free agent appears on your roster instantly.
Since I didn’t get Smith, I’m starting Hines Ward instead of Brandon Jacobs at my flex position this week. Think I’m going to leave Schaub in at #2 QB, over Sanchez. Schaub is playing Miami, and they gave up over 500 yards to Tom Brady in Week 1. Granted, Schaub is not Brady, but I like his chances against Miami’s weak pass defense.
Lots of waiver activity this week. I saw somebody grabbed Sproles, but I don’t remember who got him…
Gratz. I’m certainly not bitter, nor do I suspect anything underhanded. I knew I’d have competition for Smith.
But, even though it’s only week 2, I’m feeling a bit desperate. I could not attend the draft (work) and had to rely on Yahoo. Unfortunately, Yahoo neglected to draft me a QB until round 8. They drafted me 2 of the best 4 (yardage-wise) RBs in the first 2 rounds. But those 2 RBs only produced 24 rushing yards (and no TDs) in week 1. Smith was my last hope. But then I heard a voice that said “No, there is another.” Not sure what that means at this point. See you in week 14.
Drop your backup kicker, defense, and tight end. Stock up on potential sleepers(Emmanual Sanders is one guy who comes to mind). There are a few viable starters on the waiver wire right now, though they didn’t have a great week one. You might as well take a flyer on Gerrard, I know he wants a starting job and he is better than many starting QB’s already. I’ve been tempted, but I think Campbell is an OK fill in I don’t want waste another bench space.
Usually by the time the bye weeks roll around I have someone injured or someone has proved themselves to be sufficiently worthless to drop, like a potential sleeper who hasn’t panned out. If not you just have to weigh dropping your starter and finding a new one for the rest of the season, vs dropping someone on your bench for a week(and potentially losing him for good) for a temp replacement.
I would be hard pressed to imagine me ever reserving a bench spot for a backup kicker, even for a week. They are too unpredictable. I always drop my starter and find someone else, but I usually use 6 or 7 kickers for the season anyway.
I usually treat D/ST the same way. Though I do have the Ravens this year, so I might pick up a backup for a week. I usually just play the matchup each week, like last year whoever played the Panthers did pretty well no matter how bad they were.
As far as tight ends, I have Zach Miller, so I’ll probably just dump him and find someone else, assuming he’s still my starter by then, which he probably won’t be. There are plenty of Zach Miller caliber TE on the waiver wire. With Dallas Clark you might want keep him.
And the best way to upgrade players is to find someone on your team you think is overrated(especially if they’ve had a few hot games you don’t find sustainable) and trade for someone you find underrated. It never hurts to make a trade offer.
Of course I’m not an expert so I’d take that with a grain of salt. Just weigh it in with what you already know and read from the real experts.
Not looking good for me this week. Down by 9, and Oilers(IKN) still have Eli Manning, Roddy White and Desean Jackson with games to play. All I’ve got left is Michael Turner.
Miles Freaking Austin. 48.10 pts this week. Pretty much single-handedly saved my team.
Also, this is the second week in a row that Kolb out performed Big Ben (although only by a point this week). Time I start thinking about bringing him off the bench.
Scratch that, if generic you, are interested in a trade I want to make some changes to my team. I know I screwed up one trade already, but I am not *actually *a flake. Shoot me an email and we can work something out. I am feeling very flexible now that I know what is going on with the players after a couple of weeks.
I might be interested. I couldn’t attend the draft and need QB help. I got two monster RBs and two mediocre QBs, though Fitzpatrick is performing well so far. Can you PM your email, or is it listed on our league site? Which team do you control?
