I rarely post in what I call “personal” pit threads, I’m not a fan of the genre preferring to deal with social/political pit topics. And I had a long-standing rule, years really, not to engage the subject of this thread. I occasionally broke it, but in general, the persona presented to us doesn’t strike me as a mentally stable or healthy one and I felt that engaging them would just worsen the problem.

Regardless, given I was the cause of the latest kerfluffle, I figured I had a few things to say. Starting with this:

Singling out my post for the subjective call of a hijack is farcical. Hell, even someone who directly insulted me in a subsequent post merely got a note.

I am a grown-assed adult, if you want to call me out, call me out.

Regardless, the above is easily ignorable. It’s what happened after which I found interesting.

I mention the fact that “hive” and “hive mind” is dehumanizing and, riffing on that, started a poll which was subsequently deleted. Mad, Octo then went to the Trolls r Us thread when the following interaction occurred:

Summoning the hive to ATMB! That’s what’s despicable and cowardly about you fools. You need social validation.

(I apologize for this, by the way.)

I then responded with this post, with a picture of me holding an “Arrest Trump” sign taken at the FBI office here in San Antonio:

I was also out validating this. Got a lot of thumbs up ! Validated!

All right, so that brings us to the interesting part. I shocked a genuine, no bullshit, response out of the man. It was real. It was honest. It was not faked. And I am still touched, Octo, I truly am.

I’ll admit that if that’s you doing that that’s more courageous than I’d be in this environment. I’ll have to retract and apologize about the cowardly comment.

I’ll say this, I do disagree with you and I do take offense with personal insults outside the pit but in this day and with the crazies IRL and on the internet that you posting that is brave. Kudos.

Please note I am being called courageous for holding a “Arrest Trump” sign in San Antonio, TX. By the single biggest Righty on these Boards. Because I’m holding an “Arrest Trump” sign.

If I were holding a “Arrest Biden” sign, would I have been in danger? Hillary? McConnell? Pence? Pelosi? Garland? Of course not, the idea is preposterous.Would I be in danger from those who also want Trump arrested? Not likely. Would I be in danger from those who don’t care? Probably not.

But Trump supporter? In Octopus’s mind, Trump supporters are so dangerous that he admits that standing outside the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a sign that is effectively Arrest Aldrich Ames is… and let me quote… “more courageous than I’d be in this environment” and “with the crazies IRL and on the internet that you posting that is brave.”

Again, a moment of honesty shocked out of him by a simple photograph.

On a positive note, I did get Octo to admit that his side is so deadly violent that merely standing outside a FBI office with a sign is ‘brave’.

To which he, sadly, replied:

That’s a mischaracterization. I said in today’s environment. I wasn’t saying the right or the left are solely responsible for increased heat in their rhetoric nor do I believe political violence is monopolized by one side of the political spectrum.

Which sounds as something he didn’t even believe himself as he was typing it.

Anyway, Octo, you can lie to yourself with that, but you can’t lie to us. You would have never said such a thing had I had an anti-Hillary sign.

Never.
