By george, I think he’s got it!
I nominate the name of that color to be “octopink”.
“Vomigenta”.
WHICH hockey team? (looks at wolfpup sideways)
Da fuq? Which hockey team has “Maple” in its name, bills its fans as “Leafs Nation”, and is so beloved in its home town that Scotiabank Arena is perpetually sold out despite the team having failed to win the Stanley Cup since 1967? My theory is that fans show up to drink big buckets of Molson and watch other teams win, which I’ve found to be a worthwhile occupation when I’ve been able to get tickets.
Yeah, the “whole new level of SDMB nitpicking” trophy never stays with any poster for very long. Here ya go.
I’m sorry, I’m not familiar with any such team… Of course I mainly pay attention during the playoffs, so I may have missed seeing them in my lifetime.
I know this one! Canucks!
He seemed to get bad once the other rightwing trolls, Clothahump and Shodan, got corn fielded. It’s as though there was an ecological niche of douchebaggery that must be filled.
If I were to posit a Grand Octopus Unified Theory. I think a lot of it has to do with a fundamental belief in a universal law of both siderism. Starting from the belief that the Left is just as bad as the right he feels a strong need to counteract what he sees as a severe imbalance between the amount of criticism of the right vs the left on this message board. The problem of course is that the right has gone off the deep end, and many of the former critics have left the board being unable to defend the indefensible it has been solely left to him.
This feeds directly into his first of two soapbox topics, namely cancel culture. If ideas on both sides are equally valid, then the public and academic rejection of right wing talking points can’t be due to their faulty reasoning, moral repugnance, and lack of factual basis, it must be due to a concerted effort to suppress those views for political reasons.
As the sole advocate for the party of evil it had been very hard to keep the both siderism going what with the Republicans being the party of Nazis, bigotry, misinformation and calls to violence. But then in the Summer of 2020 he finally got his second soap box topic. A way to associate the liberals with something that was also objectively not good (setting fire to businesses is bad m’kay). It didn’t matter that no actual Democrat supported the rioting, or that it was unclear whether the people who engaged in property damage were actually BLM supporters. Now no matter what awful indefensible thing the Republicans did he can say “Well at least they didn’t burn down cities.” and keep the balance of bothsiderism intact,
I rarely post in what I call “personal” pit threads, I’m not a fan of the genre preferring to deal with social/political pit topics. And I had a long-standing rule, years really, not to engage the subject of this thread. I occasionally broke it, but in general, the persona presented to us doesn’t strike me as a mentally stable or healthy one and I felt that engaging them would just worsen the problem.
Regardless, given I was the cause of the latest kerfluffle, I figured I had a few things to say. Starting with this:
I am a grown-assed adult, if you want to call me out, call me out.
Regardless, the above is easily ignorable. It’s what happened after which I found interesting.
I mention the fact that “hive” and “hive mind” is dehumanizing and, riffing on that, started a poll which was subsequently deleted. Mad, Octo then went to the Trolls r Us thread when the following interaction occurred:
(I apologize for this, by the way.)
I then responded with this post, with a picture of me holding an “Arrest Trump” sign taken at the FBI office here in San Antonio:
All right, so that brings us to the interesting part. I shocked a genuine, no bullshit, response out of the man. It was real. It was honest. It was not faked. And I am still touched, Octo, I truly am.
Please note I am being called courageous for holding a “Arrest Trump” sign in San Antonio, TX. By the single biggest Righty on these Boards. Because I’m holding an “Arrest Trump” sign.
If I were holding a “Arrest Biden” sign, would I have been in danger? Hillary? McConnell? Pence? Pelosi? Garland? Of course not, the idea is preposterous.Would I be in danger from those who also want Trump arrested? Not likely. Would I be in danger from those who don’t care? Probably not.
But Trump supporter? In Octopus’s mind, Trump supporters are so dangerous that he admits that standing outside the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a sign that is effectively Arrest Aldrich Ames is… and let me quote… “more courageous than I’d be in this environment” and “with the crazies IRL and on the internet that you posting that is brave.”
Again, a moment of honesty shocked out of him by a simple photograph.
I then noted:
To which he, sadly, replied:
Which sounds as something he didn’t even believe himself as he was typing it.
Anyway, Octo, you can lie to yourself with that, but you can’t lie to us. You would have never said such a thing had I had an anti-Hillary sign.
Never.
And now, we have a forever-citation of you admitting your side is dangerous.
You’re welcome.
Listen goofus, learn 2 read because what you are saying is just not true.
Salmon Rushdie just got ‘consequenced’ as your side loves to threaten and the consequencer wasn’t wearing a glorious MAGA hat.
Anyways, my critique was two fold and while your actions contradict 1/2 my critique the other 1/2 still holds. You have an unhealthy need for social validation. Who brings twitter screenshots of pwnage to other forums? C’mon man!
Dall-E is getting good.
I didn’t realize that Ayatollah Khomeini was a Democrat.
Actually, “Salmon Rushdie” is a delicious way of preparing pan-fried salmon in Tuscan butter, originated by Gordon Ramsay at the Waldorf-Astoria …
You said it though! No matter how much you lie and handwave and dismiss, you said it!
You admitted your side is so dangerous that you would be scared to hold an ‘Arrest Trump’ sign in front of the FBI!
And, omg, Salman Rushdie, really? That’s pathetic even for you.
Anyway, in the space of two hours I:
-
Gave everyone a new issue to complain about you (dehumanizing us via your fave insult).
-
Got you to admit even you are scared of your own side.
My work here is done.
… drops
Yeah, I’m pretty stuck on this. A reactionary theocrat who follows a conservative government leader tries to murder an author for insulting religion, and this points to a problem with progressives? The fact that the killer wasn’t explicitly a Trump supporter is important? Bwuh?
Maybe I’m no good at reading, but I don’t think that’s the root of the problem here.
It’s cancel culture run amok! So much for the vaunted tolerant left.
Maybe not hating Muslims means you support the attack or something. I’m just guessing. I don’t get it either.
