* * * ! Official 2016 US Presidential Election Day Thread ! * * *

 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-[deep breath]-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-[deep breath]-OOOOOOOO… [several hours later] …OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…

The maps they used in 2012 to break down states like PA and FL down to individual counties were great.

Yeah, anyone in line before the deadline has the right to vote. Trump’s legal team is alleging that they let people continue to join the line long after the deadline passed.

This should be chalked up to honest mistakes. Poll workers are usually volunteers and don’t really know how to handle situations they aren’t prepared for. Even if they made a mistake I’m not sure you’d want to cancel the ballots cast, because it’s not something that can be corrected by the voters later.

Check out this video of Trump walking into his polling place today. The reaction of the crowd is wonderful.

Oh it’s just the beginning. You think Trump is going to just accept a defeat if that’s what (hopefully) happens? It’s been mentioned here he’s already starting lawsuits and voting’s not even over!

Thank you, you saved me verfiying that! Great role and great pairing.

I would, but I’m not sure what “piff” means

Thanks for posting this! Guam came up in my civics class today (don’t ask how), and I knew they didn’t get “real votes,” but had no idea they voted anyway.

The Oliver video is great - I also like this one by CGP Grey on the legal status of our territories: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ASSOQDQvVLU

The ones i saw posted on Facebook just show the date, “voter ID number” and says “this is your receipt”.

I actually find it inappropriate. Not gonna call it voter intimidation, but still find it very inappropriate. Classless. I mean, so is Donald, but still.

“Hey! An illegal alien trying to vote!”

Meh. “Respect for the office” will commence, with great reluctance, if and only if he’s elected. Right now, he’s just a bigoted orange liar. And are you seriously raising the possibility that a guy with his ego, surrounded by Secret Service agents, might be intimidated?

“Lock him up!” or “devil/whore/bitch/cunt/pussy” would be inappropriate and classless. But laughter? I’m OK with that.

I’m really surprised at the number of Floridian voters already. According to this Slate tracker someone else posted, they’re already at the 2012 mark of voters who showed up.

I thought that name sounded familiar. Ahhh, that Aussie psychopath who was Bobby Goren’s nemesis.

I vote for PBS. (As long as they keep David Brooks out of there tonight.)

I was disappointed when I moved to Chicago and found out they don’t do stickers. This year though they gave out wristbands.

I don’t give a crap about “respect for the office” - I just think you shouldn’t deliberately make people uncomfortable or belittle them when they’re trying to vote.

And no, I specifically said it wasn’t intimidation - just classless. Then again, I feel that way about public booing and similar pretty much all the time. Like with Michelle Obama at the NASCAR race.

I have had CNN on all day and find they are doing a good job so far.

I particularly enjoyed it when a female reporter, who had the unpleasant task of interviewing the next gen Trump wife shown in the voting pic above, could barely conceal her contempt for young Mrs. Trump. She cut off the little Trumpette with a curt denial, thank you, and goodbye when the Trumpette started listing Hilary’s crimes. While these crimes were a fine representation of any and all allegations that have made against Hill, none of them have resulted in charged offenses.

That’s disingenuous. I said that you raised the possibility. Saying “I’m not calling it X, but…” is a rhetorical device to do just that.

If Tzigone had wanted to convey that he felt the actions were classless, but didn’t rise to the level of voter intimidation, what words could he have used to get that point across to you?

A fine poem for the occasion - “The Poor Voter on Election Day” by John Greenleaf Whittier: The Poetry of John Greenleaf Whittier
