Should we have an Official List of Jargon? Or proposed jargon? (Re-reading old threads I was getting confused).
You know, like:
and I propose (for issues like the Voice of the French Woman or ‘whoever was on the island 16 years ago’)…
So that MIPUM can be generically employed for things like “How did the polar bear get on the island? Maybe it was brought by a MIPUM for an experiment.” Or random speculations like “Oo, maybe there is a mastermind MIPUM and it’s all like the Island of Dr. Moreau.” Or “the French Woman is a MIPUM.” Or “perhaps the TCM is a machine built by the MIPUMs”. Or “maybe the MIPUMs are aliens from outer space!” Or “maybe there are no MIPUMS.”
Anything else we need?
First the questions from NoClueBoy.
Clair has said that she was travelling alone and I got the impression that she was planning to have the baby alone. It looks like a simple unwed mother scenario, but we haven’t been given enough info to be sure. I had kept this question out of the line up figuring that we’d be able to ask more specific questions when we get Claire’s story, but as everyone else is wondering, I’ll put something in. Say “What is the relationship between Claire and the father of her baby?”
There was mention that Michael checked out the other caves and they seemed pretty stable. It looks like it was just one naturally unstable cave. Until I have reason to believe there’s a real mystery here, I’m not going to worry about this one.
I do think it’s odd that none of the survivors seem to be the flight crew. I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but it wouldn’t be the first time. “What happened to the rest of the flight crew? Are they all dead?”
Regarding the question “What else did Sun tell Michael?” - we don’t know that she told him anything else. Rephrase to “Did Sun tell Michael anything else of importance?”
If the previous episodes are anything to go by, then Sawyer gave up on that final con just before getting on the plane - possibly he was on the plane running from the guy who lent him money. I only mention this because I’m working on a theory, we actually don’t know (and making assumptions in this show is bad news). Let me rephrase to: “How recent was the flashback we saw for Sawyer?” If it was a long time ago, he may or may not have scammed again. If it was jut before getting on the plane, he probably didn’t even have a chance to.
From Darwin’s Finch:
What is Sawyer’s real name?
Good one.
New questions:
30) What is the relationship between Claire and the father of her baby?
31) What happened to the rest of the flight crew? Are they all dead?
32) Did Sun tell Michael anything else of importance?
33) How recent was the flashback we saw for Sawyer?
34) What is Sawyer’s real name?
Well, we can only assume that he encountered the monster, but if he did, the survival question is a good one. Rephrase #25 thus: “Did Locke actually see the monster? And if he did, why is he still alive?” Still one question, because the second is dependant on the first.
A final note. I do understand that some questions, like #18 may be irrelevant. Mostly they have been included because characters on the show are wondering about them. If a reasonable amount of time passes and we hear no more about them, I shall cross them off the list.
Probably in the same place Claire was in the previous two episode. At the “This Character Has Nothing To Do This Week Day Spa”.
Eats_Crayons: Good. Use 'em.
Current Question List:
Lost in Lost? Official jargon thread.
RE: The flight crew. I am going to assume this means all the crew and not just those in the cockpit.
If you remember a few of them were up and walking around just before the plane broke apart. A stewardess pointed out Charlie to someone else (an air marshall?) and they then chased Charlie down the aisle to the loos. They were banging on the door and once they hit the turbulence and Charlie was thrown out he managed to get to a seat and strap himself in but we did not see where the crew went. Presumably they were either rolling around in the aisles or running around trying to help people, which means they probably flew out of the plane at some point. Or they found another section to strap themselves in and did not survive the crash. I believe that one stewardess strapped herself in and then had to jump up when a cart almost crashed into her, so my guess is that most of the crew were not strapped in. We saw a few people who were not strapped in getting tossed about like ragdolls before the plane broke apart.
Wile E, yes, I meant the whole flight crew. Surely at least one flight attendant is on the island. What would be the odds for one of the 48 to have been part of the flight crew? How many total were on the plane? Sure, it’s conceivable not a single one made it, but I wonder about the probabilities involved.
I believe they’re saying there were “approximately 175” passengers on board; I haven’t seen mention of the specific number of flight crew.
Hey NCB, should we have an “Officially Unofficial Rules of ‘Lost’ Threads” thread?
Not really a question for the list, but how many sections of a plane of this sides are there (not broken pieces, but normal divisons in the plane that can be divided by a curtain)?
Are our survivors from coach, business class, a mix of the two? First class is obviously the part of the plane that held the pilot.
I think there is a great chance that all the flight crew is dead. When the tail end of the plane ripped off, everyone not seat in the main cabin should have been sucked out by the pressure. Unless there is a mid plane galley (there may be), no flight crew in a safe zone would have been strapped down.
I thought of another one: How did Jack get thrown clear of the plane?
He awoke far from the others IIRC.
Well, in the scene where Charlie’s running from the flight attendants, Shannon and Boone could be seen in first class. Or, at the very least, in the last row before a curtain. When everything went to hell, I think Charlie strapped himself into a first-class seat, as well. Jack, Rose, Kate, and Lock were all in either business or coach.
After much discussion with fellow addicts, here’s what we remember–Charlie ran through two curtains going to get his fix, which means that he was in coach, Jack, Rose, and Locke were in business class, and Shannon and Boone were in first.
ANSWERS FROM NEWEST EP!!!
5 - Danielle
6 - All but Danielle dead
7 - some underwater power source. Leads to new Q: What is it?
9 - partial - Black Rock is a place
22 - Danielle. French woman from transmission
24 - a friend he had to torture
27 - Danielle!
29 - Danielle’s map shows it as an island
24 - the name is Nadia
Lots of information in this episode. Lots of new questions too.
Feel free to toss out new answers and new questions. I’ll be doing a clean up sometime tomorrow, but I did want to mention this answer:
I think this answer is premature. Danielle may have been the one to conk Sayid on the head, but we don’t know that one for sure. And if she wanted to keep Sayid prisoner, wouldn’t she have taken him at that time?
Locke is still looking pretty good for this one.
Otherwise, good work NCB.
First off, let’s clear up some answers from this week. NoClueBoy has already provided the basics, so I’ll just fill in some details.
What is the source of the French Transmission?
ANSWER: Danielle, the survivor of a science team that was shipwrecked on the island, set up the transmission. The transmission is now under someone else’s control.
What happened to the people mentioned in the French Transmission?
ANSWER: They were all killed, seemingly by Danielle herself. Danielle, however, is still alive on the island.
How has the FT been broadcasting for so long?
PARTIAL ANSWER: Seemingly it is powered through a cable that reaches into the ocean.
Who was the woman in the photo that Claire gave Sayid?
ANSWER: Nadia, a childhood friend of Sayid. Probably involved in resistance activities. Sayid was supposed to get information out of her, but he helped her escape instead. Sayid believes she is dead.
What killed the earlier group? (We may be wrong to assume it is the creature!)
ANSWER: Some or all of them were killed by Danielle for reasons unknown. At the very least Danielle was responsible for the death of her lover Robert. (It was Robert, yes?)
What exactly is the geography of this still-very-ambiguous land mass they’re stuck on?
ANSWER: Yup, it’s an island.
I’m leaving #9 open because we still have very little information. The Black Rock mentioned in the transmission is still unidentified, as are the smaller black and white rocks that Adam and Eve had.
I also believe #22 to remain unanswered.
New Questions:
35) Who exactly is Alex?
36) Who are the “Them” that Danielle thinks control the transmission?
37) Why did Danielle kill the other members of her team (or at least Robert)?
38) What’s the deal with the wispering noise Sayid heard?
39) Is Nadia dead or alive?
22 isn’t clearly answered, true. But it does make sense for it to be Danielle. First, she conks him on the head and destroys his receiver. “Don’t come looking for me!” is what she (?) seems to be saying. Then, when the same guy shows up in her turf, she traps him and zaps him a bunch. “Don’t come back!”
She seemed to recognise Saayid. It could be delusional, or it could be she had Alex report to her who and if anyone was too curious about her. So far, that’s been Saayid’s back monkey. In that case, the recognitiopn would be real, but short term.
All circumstantial. None of it canon, for sure. So, leave 22 open, but this is my not so wild speculation.
Note: #36 and #38 are the same questions. Sayid asked “Who are ‘They’?” and Danielle answeredsoemthing along the lines of: “The people whi whisper in the jungle.” Whereupon Sayid thought she was bonkers… (but now he hears Them too.)
#37 - Danielle killed the others because “they were beyond saving”. I THINK she said it was because they were sick or had been injured by someone who was sick. (I didn’t quite catch it). Robert either tried to kill her, or tried to defend himself against her with the other rifle (but he didn’t know the firing pin had been removed) and that’s when she killed him.
See, I missed that. Thanks. I’ll fix it.
I did have some confusion about if she killed more than Robert. But I ask “why did she kill them” to be inclusive. Danielle says they were sick and talks about carriers and all that, but she’s not the most reliable witness.
So if I ask what was wrong with the rest of Danielle’s group, it’s possible there was nothing wrong with them. On the other hand, if I ask why she killed them all, I have a couple of possible answers. One being that they were sick with {whatever}. The other being that Danielle is nuttier than a pecan log.
Revised:
35) Who exactly is Alex?
36) Who are the “Others” that Danielle thinks control the transmission and make the wispering noise?
37) Why did Danielle kill the other members of her team?
38) Is Nadia dead or alive?
