As it is, DtL has said something so egregious, so outlandish, so asinine, that sixty-some seperate posters have taken offense with it.
Do you mean “satire” in the sense of what others have posted here in mocking DtL, or do you mean satire in the sense of DtL’s original “don’t attack me, my family died in the Holocaust” post? As for “all types of opinion”, you are correct. There are lots of people with lots of different opinions on this board. As it stands, though, DtL is such an ass that most posters have formed the opinion that he’s a stupid jerk.
Bullshit. An apology is most definitely necessary. DtL’s original post, the one which started this entire issue, is an insult to every person who did have family members die in the Holocaust. It is an insult to them because it paints them as using that fact as a shield to hide behind when they’ve screwed up.
And rather than take a step back and try to objectively decide as to whether he erred, DtL decided to push forward as hard as he could upon the issue, brazenly denying he had done anything that could even be seen as wrong, and deciding that those who were offended were either hateful or lacking in a sense of humor.
Quite frankly, if something I had said had offended over five dozen people, I might think that I had actually made an error. I feel sorry for DtL, too oblivious and self-righteous to ever be anything other than a self-justifying asshole. I expect his tombstone will read, “Dammit! It was just satire!”
Maybe by then, he will have learned what that word means.
BTW, INTERPRETER- we aren’t really a close-knit community here, and we don’t all band together and stand with each other when one of us is attacked. In fact, many times, we’ll just stand back and enjoy the sparks. Were you to read some old threads, or maybe lurk for a while, you might come to realize that when this many people are up in arms over the remarks of another poster, generally that other poster made an extremely egregious mistake.
