OK, I see some more of the relevance now. Just out of curiosity bj0rn, what IS the Icelandic word for Holocaust? It’s the same word in Dutch, and in many more languages I know of. I didn’t object to you not knowing the word Holocaust per se, but to you calling it “the Jewish thingie”. That sounds very derogatory, at least it does to me. I’m sure you didn’t mean it like that though, in hindsight. That’s what makes DTL an asshole, and you, well, merely annoying

There are people who have posted their vitriol (ostensibly because of the Holocaust statement) to DTL who, I’ll bet, wouldn’t have even given it a second thought before. They goad him, and seem genuinely upset when he doesn’t respond to them personally. PUHLEESE. If ONE person (besides myself) realized their own previous apparent apapthy or ignorance and was embarrassed about it, then this whole flamefest would be worth it. If they admitted to it, I would think more highly of that person than 500 people who say, “Yea, how rotten you are, dtl. How could you say shit like that”.
And, YES, INTERPRETER, when someone actually hurts another person with poorly chosen words, an apology is appropriate. It elevates us. It especially elevates the person who apologizes.

But if you’d care to check, more than one of us has had independant run-ins with DTL being a jerk. So when he then starts a thread unjustly accusing one person of singling him out, he’s pretty much set himself up. C’mon, this is like going around and slapping everybody in the face, then slapping Coldfire twice more, and then saying “alright, who wants a piece of me?”
he asked for it; he got it. Nuff said.
And, to further that notion, I’ll call ANYONE out for being a jerk if I am so inclined. Myself included. I don’t give a damn who you are, what you said, or to whom you were addressing your comments. If I find them to be worth my time to reply, I damn well will. That means adding a “me too” or just a snide comment as well.

You do not understand the gravity of drainthelizard’s words if you flippantly refer to them as being a ‘BAD post’. Sometimes people say or do stupid things without thinking which are easily forgiveable, but, in this case, it crossed over into malicious. Hopefully, this was not his intent, but the end result is apparent. I still haven’t seen evidence of remorse or an apology.

In response to such a heartless, offensive post, it was valid. Additionally, I think dtl went totally psycho in starting this thread. It’s like watching a little punk kid pushing another kid, then that kid in turn knocks the shit out of the little punk, and the little punk goes running off crying, “he hit me!” Poor little victim.:rolleyes: Sometimes, you need a little exercise in behavior modification. Hopefully, dtl won’t be so callous with his words in the future. And maybe others will see that posting some of their malicious drivel is not socially acceptable. These are real people with real feelings posting and reading here, just as real as you are. People here sometimes forget that, it seems (I hope that’s their excuse, anyway.)

I may be asking the wrong person, since you seem a bit biased as far as that goes. I think a more appropriate thread would have been, “Ok, Coldfire, and everyone else, I apologize!” If he had done that, I would have sooo much more respect for him right now, as would others, I’m sure.

It is quite evident that a lot of people on this board feel that if a topic is not important to them, or it doesn’t affect them right here right now, or they don’t agree with it, then it is wrong and they can dismiss it. (Aren’t we trying to fight ignorance here?) I don’t think that the feelings of those on this board who were/are touched, directly or indirectly, by the Holocaust were taken into consideration as dtl typed those words. I’m glad, as are others, that Coldfire called dtl on it.

If you read any thread in which DTL has aroused the ire of the group, there has been constructive criticism. Without using foul language or inflammatory rhetoric people have, in other and even in this thread at times, pointed out the numerous mistakes, blunders, and offenses that DTL has spewed out all. They have been specific and used cites.
Nor is this a lynching of sorts. When DTl posted a thread in the BBQ pit asking for people’s opinion about his life (i.e. whether or not he was a loser) there was a variety of responses. Some were sympathetic and others were tough love-esque, but they were mostly helpful and not critical.
Simply because everyone is pointing out the same things doesn’t mean that they are minions. Nobody here is slavishly devoted to kissing Coldfire’s ass ( sorry Coldfire ).

Actually, I didn’t even get involved in this thread until FelchtheLizard made some really stupid comments in his vB code fiasco. And even then they weren’t flames. I was pointing them out in a fairly civilized manner. If we are anybody’s minions, it would be Cecil Adams. After all, aren’t we all here, dedicated to eradicating ignorance? Obviously, FelchtheLizard is going to take some work, but I think the purpose in a lot of the posts directed towards him is to get him to see “the light”, and realize what a huge asswipe he is being.
Okatym, those were very wise words. And I totally agree: if only one person learns something from this (even if it isn’t DTL), it has been worth the flames. I also appreciate your efforts to maintain impartiality (is that a word, even??) when things get heated. You’re very calm and rational, two characteristics I admire greatly.

If I’m not mistaken, dtl, old . . . thing, it’s the European spelling of decency. Just as defence is the Euro spelling (I believe) of defense. And honor is the American spelling of honour, etc.
