Its actually called Erolisi Marr, usually refered too as “Emarr.”
Oh and the server wide chat rooms only work in-game. Sorry for the two posts, hit submit too soon.
Also work from EQIM for those that use it. I find it very useful for saying hi to friends real quick instead of logging in. I don’t use AIM, ICQ, etc. Just wish I could use EQIM from work.
EQIM was removed from the sony web site(A few issues with Quellious, and Stromm servers). I was able to find a direct link to it by doing a google search on EQIM then looking for sony.com URLs.
WOOT! Another enchanter. Currently I only have 2 AA (run2), and am so close to 56 its not funny. Unfortunatly my guild is raiding tonight so no exp groups, and I refuse to group with many people outside my guild. May login and charm solo for awhile.
Some more advice. Don’t fall for the following -
Type /d for a donation (this actually puts you in a duel with the other person so they can kill you)
Type /ex to see your experiance in numbers (This is the /exit command. Kicks you out of the game)
ummm, I had several things for here when I started.
Also don’t worry about death. Pre 10 you don’t loose exp so go explore. Get lost? Who cares? Attack a guard, and boom back at the city.
Ranger is a good choice. Get some melee ability, and some spells best of both worlds.

My first night playing.
Wow.
It’s gonna take some getting used to, but I am getting the hang of it.
Has anyone noticed that the maps in the book don’t seem to be quite the same as they are in the game?
For example: The city of Kelethin. In map in the book doesn’t seem to be oriented in the same way as it is in the game.
This is how the town looks in the game. and this is how it looks in the book..
This got me bit confused as I couldn’t be sure which was way north. Did I go by what the book said or did I assume that ‘up’ on the in-game map was North?
I found the portal to Knowledge in the south east corner of the map like the book said, but it was the SE corner of the in-game map. Going to the SE corner of the map that is in the book would actually seem to be North East.
But is all this just me?
Is there a way to orient the displayed map in the game so it looks like the map in the book? (IE: Rotate it so North points up?)
(Also, when I went to the Plane of Knowledge, the portal to Kaladim was physically there, but it didn’t take me to Kaladim. It seemed to take me back to Faydark…)
Ahh…I just keep hacking at it…
Check out Everlore for more tips, also Allakhazam’s. Caster’s Realm is a good site too, except they had a severe hardware failure last week and are not yet back on line. All three sites are quite helpful.
Put a point or two in Sense Heading and mash that button until you max it out for every level. There’s just no point in getting the spell True North (if you are playing a ranger it’s a moot point anyway right now) when you can master Sense Heading and know which direction you are facing.
Also learn to use /loc – that gives you your location using coordinates similar to a grid.
The PoK stones will take you close to the cities listed on each stone but not in the cities themselves. This is good especially if you are not liked in those cities.

Thats where I play… Send Sejal a tell (GASP! He uses his EQ name on SDMB? Yup, real name is Mike)
I am an Enchanter and wouldn’t have it any other way… I’ve been playing for three years and the only calss I’ve put any time/effort into is the Chanter. Finding a class that has more influence on the success/failure of a raid or experience group is quite a challenge indeed. And if that sounds egotistical… well… Chalk it up to the fact that I am a high elf
The book sucks. Use the in-game maps, or the maps found at www.eqatlas.com. The Eqatlas maps are the best, but the convenience of the in-game maps are good, too.
There’s a place where you can download in-game maps for the zones that are not included in the basic EQ map set. I’ll dig around and see if I can find a link for you. For now, you’ll be staying in the newbie areas, which are included in the default maps.
Nice talking to you last night on the serverwide.sdmb channel. I’ve got that on my channel setup hotkey now, so if I’m on you’ll see me.
Likewise. Gawd knows I’ll be playing as soon as I get my ass home.
I found www.eqatlas.com this morning and printed off the maps for Faydwaer, just to get an idea of how it’s laid out. (SW:Galaxies seems more straight forward than EQ, but it will come in time.
One other thing, (Yeah…I’m dripping with newbness.) How does the tell command work? I assume it is just a way of contacting folks on the same server?
Whoever it was that was in the SDMB channel sorry I didn’t get to chat more. Charm soloing takes alot of consentration. Especially when you suck at it like me.
A couple more web sites
EQ Atlas lot of maps, etc. Better than the ones in the book. I use this site whenever I am headed for a new zone so I can find out the basic layout, and how to get there.
EQ Traders is a tradeskill site. Anything you ever wanted to know about tradeskills is here. Not sure if you will be a big tradeskill person or not, but it is a big help to those of us who are. Even if you don’t do tradeskills you can still use this site to find out exactly what that wingding you looted is for.
See you all in game.
Not because you are a high elf. All enchanters are required to be egotistical. Never met one that didn’t think of themselves as the best thing sense sliced bread(Including myself).

I must have been posting the same time as you. As for tells here is how it works.
Person on the same server:
Type /tell [name] <message>
Replace [name] with the first name of the person you want to talk to, and <message> with what you want to tell them. If someone sends you a tell you can then just hit ‘R’ to reply to them, and it will auto fill the /tell [name] with the name of the person to last send you a tell. Be carefull because someone may slip a tell inbetween you recieving the first tell and hitting ‘R’ so it goes to the wrong person. Sometimes with hillarious results.
Person on another server:
Type ;tell {server}.[name] <message>
Replace [server] with the name of the server. This can be hard to figure out sometimes as it dosen’t always match the full name, or the accepted shorthand for the server. Solusek Ro is commonly called SolRo or SoRo, but for a tell it is Solusek. Then a period then the first name of the person you are talking to. Then of course the message. The reply also works for cross-server tells, and is nice because you don’t have to type the full server.name thing.
Examples to send a tell to me if you were on Solusek Ro you would type:
/tell otanx Hi there great one that is the best enchanter in the game. I am not worthy.
To send me a tell from your server to mine you would type:
;tell solusek.otanx Hi there great one that is the best enchanter in the game. I am not worthy.
Notice that the cross-server tell starts with a ‘;’ not a ‘/’
Hope this helps.

The tell command is, as you say, a way of sending a private message directly to someone on the same server you are on. Simply type:
/t Sejal [MessageGoes Here] and a message will pop up on my screen saying
Kwyjibo tells you. ‘[Your Message]’
You can also hit the “r” key to reply to a tell you have already gotten. Be careful with this. More than once I’ve sent a tell to get someone else’s reply… And some of them have been pretty interesting! The R only works for the last tell you got, although you can use tab to cycle through a list of tells so it is directed at the correct person.

Another good EQ related website is Magelo. It is a way to share, outside the game, what your character stats are like. Since there seems to be a fair handul of EQ players here, I’ll start that ball rolling. Here’s my Magelo:

Which server are you on, Kwyjibo?
El Hubbo and I are about to give up our accounts because we’re addicted to SWG. If you (or anyone else) are on the Seventh Hammer, let me know and I’ll hook you up with some of my gear before I log for good.
We’ll be back to EQ… when EQ 2 comes out this Christmas! w00t!
Thanks for all the extra tips folks.
I’ll be on tonigth for sure, on the EMarr server.
I think I’ll start a new character though. I don’t like the name of my existing one. (He’s only Level 1, so nothing lost.)
Hit points, hit points, hit points.
This goes for whatever class you play, even casters. HP > everything else.
When you choose a class, pick the race that has the highest STA. Add more to STA when you spend points. When you get enough money to buy stuff at the Bazaar, search for items that add to HP and/or STA.
You’ll thank me later.
I only have a character on EMarr right now.
You’ll love SW:G. It’s sweet!
Knowed Out Stamina means less to an enchanter than it does to a melee class. If I am doing my job right, I never get hit, so 500 hitpoints or 5000, it doesn’t make much difference. I’m far more interested in Intelligence. Priest classes would be more interested in Wisdom. It really depends on what you play.
I have to agree with Sejal about STA. It dosen’t do much, adds a few HPs as you level, but not all that many. Go for the base stats for your class. Enchanter is INT/CHA (Don’t get me started on the CHA debate). Also don’t worry too much about stats. As you level you will be able to raise any stat you want using equipment.
However I have to disagree that HP are not important to an Enchanter. I go for the INT/HP/AC/CHA method. As long as my INT is 225 AC 650, and CHA 125 I go all out for HP. Now saying that, Enchanters probably have the most different ways to play the class. I tend to get hit alot because of charm breaks. I also like to grab agro and drag the mobs away from the fight before mez so I can easly target for refresh. So I can see why some don’t need HP as their play style is different enough they don’t get hit.
I guess what I am trying to say is find out what works for you. If you find that as a ranger having high CHA makes you hit more then have high CHA(if this happens let me know I would love to see it).
Here’s my magelo.
Nice stuff, Sejal! I like that robe… must do more raiding…
[nitpick] I didn’t say Stamina/HP is unimportant… Just that it is less important to me than Intelligence. You may notice my stamina is higher than my charisma, on my Magelo Profile. But then I do carry a Grandmaster Jeweler’s Eyeglass (+50 Charisma)for those occasions when I am going to be required to charm things [/nitpick]
I do not think that telling someone “Put your extra points into stamina” is the best advice for a starting character unless, of course, that character is a pure warrior. There are plenty of character creation guides out there. Google will get you more information on how to play your class than you ever could hope for. I don’t always agree that there is any one best race for a class… Yes, some may level more slowly, but I’d surely love to see a level 65 female ogre shaman. Only because I never have before.
