I came this close to really getting into film cameras many years ago. I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was ten years old with a Brownie Hawkeye, then an Argus C3, and then a Petri parallax. I got into SLRs once I had my own money, and then started eyeing 4x5 and larger format cameras. Almost took a plunge on a Rolleiflex, but really couldn’t justify the expense. Also nearly bought a bellows 8x10 camera at an estate sale, but nobody could tell me if it was operable. Probably just as well, since film has become hard to find and is expensive. I also have no place for a darkroom.
Thank you Swampy
My son has to rate his other two team members - due today as well.
Non-slacker team member is easy, she will get all 4’s - the highest rating.
He hates doing slacker’s rating, she will be getting mostly 2s. He can’t bring himself to give her a 1, even though she didn’t even participate in several of the assignments.
I wonder how she will rate her team members. I remember in my son’s freshman year they had to critique other classmate’s assignments. He hated doing it because the ones he got stuck with doing were really really bad. I helped him, he worked really hard on finding positive things to compliment and even harder to make polite suggestions for the not so good parts. One of those classmates tore his work to shreds and wasn’t nice about it. Fortunately the professor stepped in and handled it. I just wonder if slacker is going to give them good ratings or if she will try to bring them down to make herself look better.
I know rating his team members is preparation for business and management, but I don’t envy anybody who has to do it as part of their job.
My son pretty much has a job as soon as he graduates. Lily’s mom is a supervisor and she does the hiring and firing. She says there should be some openings in late May and as long as he can pass the drug test she will hire him. She knows he has shyness issues, but it won’t matter as he will be mostly working by himself. It’s not the best job, warehouse irk filling orders, but since he has never had a job it may be a good place to start. He can also move up into management pretty easily.
Jax’s mom could probably help him get a job where she irks at a pet store. They were short handed before the virus stuff, then they were laying people off because of the shorter hours and to limit exposure. I’m sure once everything is back to normal they will be wanting to fill the open slots. There he would have to interact with the public, but it also offers opportunities to move up into management.
Not the best jobs in the world, but he has to start somewhere.
drinking a martini, good chicken boobs marinating in the frige(Asian style).
[Captain Queeg] Ah, but the strawberries! That’s, that’s where I had them[/Captain Queeg]
[Syfy]Tonight on Syfy…MURDER HORNETNADO VS. SHARKTOPUS!!![/Syfy]
Glad to see you back, sari. And good luck to Sah-son!
Supper was good. But I forgot to turn off the broiler when I took the steaks out, and the broiler pan is now covered with charred drippin’s. Dammit. So it’s soaking, but the rest of the dishes are done.
Tonight is grilled Costco Italian sausages (with mozz inside) on a bun with sauteed onions and peppers. Followed by brownies made with Mexican cocoa and orange zest.
Its Taco.night at the Wrekked house.
Me and the grandwreks are sooooooo happy.
I was supposed to go to the Diabetic clinic tomorrow. But I can’t talk. My throat and mouth are sore. I had eaten a bunch of fresh pineapple last week. I thought that was what it was. It may have started that way. This morning I was brushing my teeth and my tongue was burning so I looked. Lots of white spots all in my mouth. DIL looked. They took pix and sent it to the Diabetic nurse. She says it’s ‘Thrush’. And don’t come to the clinic (yay!)
I swear I ain’t licking little birds. No chirping coming from me. I can’t say anything above a whisper. Wish I could fly tho.
More meds. Aaaaccckkkk:smack:
I’ve planted strawberries as well. They look good. I have an ingenious way to keep birds out of them when they get to berry-ing. I’m anxious to see if it works.
My ‘maters’ look excellent.
Y’all have a good Moanday eve.
Murder hornetnado? Good god man - that’s horrific.
This past weekend was my 28th wedding anniversary and my son’s 15th birthday. I do not know where the time has gone.
My doc says I should go ahead with the MS appointments. The clinic where they are is not where they see CoVID-19 patients, so the risk is low. I donwanna.
I also need to get my car registration renewed. My insurance information is forwarded to the DMV. My mechanical information is forwarded to the DMV. You would think under current circumstances that I could pay for the renewal online and they could send me the stickers and paperwork. But no. I have to go in. Bleah. Bleah. Bleah.
Tonight is roast meat. I am a fan of roast meat. Is anyone else stocking up due to the forecasted meat shortages?
bleh i neve want to be overly useful on good days and today’s not a good day but aunt is on one of her " we must be useful " tangents …
Please explain the ingenious method. I wish to use it. Maybe. I hope the medications get you over the thrush pronto. You should talk to your doc about preventing future thrush if possible. It likes people with lowered immune systems.
Sunny, my strawberries are in a raised bed that I used to use as a cold frame. It had a top made out of old windows.
Mr.Wrekker took the glass out and replaced it with metal hardware cloth (like rabbit wire with smaller squares) It will sit above the plants about 10inches. I don’t think birds or bunnies will be able to get underneath it. I have high hopes.
Yep, my doctor is worried about my immuno-compromised self. So far we’re just beating off the problems as they come. I need a good long visit with him. But I’m scared to go in yet.
You were missed Sari. Glad you are back.
I irked today for a while. Got my printer issue squared away. My new chair arrived but needs putting together. I did a mandatory training but when it was time for the test, computer screwed up so I guess I will have to take the whole thing again. Not happy in the least about that. F’ing technology sucks so bad at my irk.
Got home to two huge boxes from Wally World. It is my TP and PT. I still need to lug them up the stairs. Also, **Buddy’s ** Chewy box arrived and need to lug it too. It has a few new toys in it since he destroys his toys. This is the first time in a while I have gotten him any new toys.
Happy Anniversary Sunny and spouse. May you have many more.
Happy new week everyone!
doggio, I think the frogs and locusts are slated for June and July.
baker, I hope you find a new gig soon.
metal mouse, queen sized sheets are bad enough on enveloping everything else in the wash, I can imagine king sized.
I prettied up the reports today, took them to the only person currently in the building who’s a notary and had them notarized. I’ve been given a new report to design tracking losses for our most expensive finished goods. I have the six month data spread done and will work on the rest of the report this week. Most of the rest of the FoM reporting is finished and I can also get started on what my job title actually is sometime Wednesday.
Came home and fixed what I was planning for last evening (twas yum!) and am fixing to do KP before addressing MD cards to sisters and SIL.
Stay healthy y’all!
Happy Cinco de Mayo Eve, everyone!
Not much new here. I puttered today, did some weight training. My joints feel better, which is always a blessing. I’m going to call my sister–the one with the husband with dementia, COVID, etc.–in a bit. I haven’t figured out dinner yet. When you live alone and you’re not hungry, planning dinner lacks urgency.
Beck, my late former MIL had thrush once. I was taking care of her at the time, and it was awful. I tried all kinds of things to get some nutrition in her because it hurt her so much to eat. I hope yours goes away pronto. Can you do a tele-appointment with your doc in lieu of the long appointment you need?
Sari, welcome back! So the big paper your son has to turn in is another (supposedly) group project? That’s so bizarre to me. I did have students do a group essay, but it was on Google Drive so I could track which student had contributed what and when, and they had to turn in their individual research notes. If it’s there’s no way to check who’s done what, it makes no sense to me. Hate to say it, but maybe the instructor wants fewer essays to grade?
**
Moooom**, I learned something today, too! Now I know the difference between the Susans! **Thanks much.
Sunny**, I thought of stocking up on meat, but I only have the one small freezer in the apartment. I’m going to have to stock up on tuna, I guess. The kind in the packets doesn’t take much shelf space.
**
Cupcake**, I hope you get a job soon so you can give the current company a double-digit salute as you leave.
Evening all. Been a slow afternoon, watched some TV and took a nice long bath (“A shower is just a shower, but a hot bath is a soak’” sez I). Went to Mickey’s Place for dinner, so I’ll be eating in the rest of the week.
Sari, nice seeing you back. Sah-son needs to offer an honest grade on his teammate’s performance, no matter what she may do. If the working partner grades much like he does, the prof should be smart enough to figure things out. And I’m glad the canine mafia are helping to find him a job; might not be glamorous after college, but everybody needs to start somewhere.
Sunny, I don’t cook much, but have about 5-6 weeks of hamburgers stocked along with various deli stuff, haven’t noticed too many shortage here yet. And happy belated Anniversary/Birthday.
Becks, good to see you about the MMP. Hope your health improves. Didn’t know what thrush was (or have forgotten) so I looked it up. Could be worse, but still not fun. Be well.
Butters, I hope the system saved your work (some do, some don’t) and you don’t have to take the whole thing over again. Been there, cussed that…
Everyone take care.
You know what? My husband can be a real dick. He is so damn grouchy. It’s not my fault there is a global pandemic nor is it my fault he is old and has a heart condition. He is so nice to everyone but me when he gets like this. He’s just miserable and I guess misery loves company. Let the phone ring and sugar wouldn’t melt in his mouth he is so sweet. He is not abusive just distant and I know when he is in this mood just to leave him be. Asshole.
That’s all.
The Daughter did an InstaCart from CostCo. She ordered beef and pork. Her shopper said, “We’re only supposed to get the customer two packages of meat, so this will be your warning.”
Warning apparently consists of a tray of top sirloin, two trays of mixed pork chops, a cryovac of a full boneless pork loin, and two prime strip steaks. Boy, howdy! Warn me some more
The hilarious part is that her CostCo membership lapsed years ago!
I de-boned all the pork chops and packaged the boneless guys for the freezer. The bones got roasted in the oven, and I’ll simmer them to make nummy-roonie broth for beans. The top sirloins got packaged individually and frozen, and I hacked the pork loin into four roasts. Everything is resting nicely in the freezer.
The steaks are doing nice things in the kitchen, under tutelage of The Daughter.
The broth from the chop bones? I’m glad you asked! She also bought a 25 pound sack of pinto beans.
Her hoarder chromosomes have awakened!

{{{butters}}} Buddy’s still in the chew-his-toys-to-bits-within-days stage. Nelson did that when he still had his puppy teeth. It’s gotten much better.
For y’all stocking up on meat, I hope that you’re going to a real butcher who gets it straight from the farm, slaughters it themselves and sells it to you. All of these sickies working in the slaughterhouses and packing plants have likely sneezed or coughed on your meat otherwise (spoken by one who spent four years in a packing plant). I made the decision not to buy commercially processed meat until this thing has died down. I have the freezer above my fridge with enough for ~six weeks, plus salmon, tuna and home canned (thanks cousin Joy!) beef in the pantry and eat vegetarian meals on a regular basis, so I should be OK. YMMV.
I have a good stock of frozen meat and have been lately acquiring more canned, including Spam (DH and I like the stuff. Judge not).
Annoying irk day as usual. Always “fun” to try to support a mobile app we have crappy “documentation” for, especially when we do not have access to some crucial info to troubleshoot and must contact one of two available sups (third’s running a training class this week*) to get said info. Also, I keep getting calls that get brushed into the web support queue that should have been handled by the original agent (sup says he knows, other sups do too, and they’re working on correcting this). Bonus points for those who should not be allowed anywhere near anything more technical than pencils.
On the plus side, we got below 250 calls waiting at one point, and were still under 300 when I left for the day. Much better than the last few weeks have been on that front.
Magic Internet pizza and mega-cookie en route from Pizza Hut. I did NOT feel like cooking, and DH isn’t much of a cook on a good day.
- I feel sorry for the trainees. They’re on the call floor next week. I don’t think it’s going to be much calmer, and the phone system is doing a truly lovely job of hopelessly scrambling what calls come in on which queues, so the poor kids are going to be getting quite the combo plate of stuff they probably won’t have been trained on yet mixed with the more basic calls. Wonder how many will survive past the end of next week?
I got ‘St. Judes Elixir’ Gargle spit. Gargle swallow. Weird. And ‘Diflucan’ 1 pill.
Worked really well. I was able to eat Tacos.
Nellie, I’ve had tele-visits every week. They’re taking pretty good care of me. I just need to build up and gain strength. I lost so much ground the end of last year. It’s gonna take awhile.
Thanks for the good wishes everybody, I’ll be thinking about you all when I go in to work tomorrow morning!
Guess what I just did? I tossed a bat out of my house. This is the third time a bat wormed it’s way in from somewhere. I’d noticed yesterday that my cat seemed on edge, although the dog had no issues. Tonight I heard a fluttering, and then it was flying from the kitchen to the living room. I got a pillow and tried slapping it out of the air, like last time but it evaded me and fles down the hall to the utility closet. I thought maybe it had found it’s way out, then it came flying back. I chased it into the bathroom and closed the door on it. I fetched a kitchen glove and went in. Maybe I had grazed it because it was squeaking in the bottom of the tub, and not trying to fly away. I grabbed it with the thick glove, took if downstairs and tossed it into the night. If it does survive that’s good, and if it doesn’t then it won’t die in my house and stink the place up.
Seanette, I hearby confess I rather like Spam myself. Not all the time, but once in a while I get some, slice it real thin, and fry it for sandwiches.
