OK, I'll Start The MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. Be still my beatin’ heart! I mentioned yestiddy that we would feast upon shrimpies 'n sallit today. Then it occurred to us that today is Cinco De Mayo, thus we must sup upon Mexican comestibles. OLÉ! Thus we shall order from our fav-o-rite place and of course, get two of their margaritas. Shrimpies 'n sallit can hold off until tomorrow.

Sari good to know there’s an irk plan for Sah-Son when he graduates. First jobs outta kolledge or supposed to be kinda sucky. It’s like a rite of passage. I’m sure he’ll do fine.

Butters sorry about the irk puter woes and hubs woes. Hope both are better today.

Sunny happy anniversary to you and the Mr. and happy bday to Beamer!

Becks I’ve had thrush. That’s when I found out I am allergic to sulfa drugs, which resulted in a course of Prednisone which I well and truly hated. Anywho, the thrush cleared up easily enough. Hope it does for you as well.

I haven’t noticed any meat shortages around these parts. We have two well stocked freezers so could go for quite a while. Matter of fact, haven’t bought any meat in the past almost three months as we need to eat up some stuff in da freezers.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Tuesday and Cinco De Mayo Y’all!

Remember that broiler pan I mentioned in my last post? That was my morning project. It’s mostly clean - good enough, since I pretty much always use foil with it. And I’ve breakfasted and tended to the critters. I need to get **FCD **up shortly - he’s got a teleconference early this morning. I’ll be glad when he’s in the hospital - hope he can get some rest there…

**Butters **- I did so hate that on-line training when I was still a Fed - especially some of the security stuff. They ran the same one every year and it was full of inane scenarios. Same with the sexual harassment training. And, yeah, when it crashed before you could get the certificate printed out, that really sucked!! At least some of it could be done by just clicking thru it. No sense reading what you’ve seen a dozen times!

I’ve stocked as much meat as my limited freezer space allows. Last week, I got a whole poke loin which became 2 roasts and a dozen chops. There’s also a bunch of chicken in there, and at least 1 meatloaf and a couple of packs of steaks. And fish, which no one but me really likes. We’ve also got lots of cheese as well as boxed mac-n-cheese, plus eggs. So we’re OK on protein for a while. And I suppose I could get stuff from the Amish, unless everyone else around here has the same idea. We’ll survive, regardless. Plus we’ve got a yard full of squirrels…

Last night at supper, I mentioned to all and sundry that today is my great-nephew’s (grand-nephew’s?) birthday. Roxy immediately said “Cake!!” Didn’t I tell you she’s one smart kid!!!

Tonight’s supper will be ribs - I just need to remember to put them in the oven or smoker before 11. My chore list is fairly small - I’ll push the vacuum cleaner around and maybe even <gasp> dust!

Happy Tuesday!!

As an English vegetarian, surprisingly not :stuck_out_tongue:

Bit of a wild 'n windy morning here today, with loud torrential rain overnight. Luckily I went and checked on the bees yesterday, so I’m not planning on going any further than the fruit 'n veg place today- I’m out of taters and milk. The bees may or may not have made themselves a new queen, although I didn’t see one in there, one was certainly there in the last 3 days, and there’s actually a possibility of there being 2 queens in there right now.

Randomly, during my first attempt at University, my personal tutor was the person who discovered how Japanese honeybees defend themselves against Asian Giant Hornets - they ball them up and basically buzz to produce heat, until they literally cook the hornets, who have a lower heat tolerance, if you were wondering.

Anyway, the end is in sight for this final assignment, I’m just trying to stretch out “It didn’t work” into another 1000 words or so. With lots of graphs…

At least I only have to worry about my own stuff, we only had one marked group assignment, and that was the stoopit ‘employability’ module. The day of talks that got cancelled was also group, I suppose, but most of the marks were from your own work, just a bit on who contributed to the group stuff, and that was directly noted by the tutor, we didn’t have to grass people up. All the other group projects we’ve done were basically learning exercises, though mostly what I learned is that I really hate group projects.

Up and drinking coffee and then back out into the grind. OD opened her salon yesterday and was booked solid from 8.00am until 7.30pm. I am very glad she was able to make it through the shut down.

My freezer is about full too. I am sad for the people on the lines in the meat plants. I worked the lines two different times years ago when there was no work to be had. It is hard and grueling work. Just before i got my present job, I ran the tongue saw at a beef plant. (think about that job for a minute, and whatever you do for a living doesn’t look so bad now, does it?)

Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8am, when the recycle/garbage folks came through and woke me up, nothing much on the schedule today but supposed to get a lot cooler by tomorrow (76F high today, 62F high tomorrow). So maybe some housecleaning in a bit (or not…)

Nut, group projects are great training for 'business meetings", which also involves groups doing things inefficiently…

Cupcakes, good job on the bat. I think there is a thread somewhere about another Doper encountering a bat (I think) that is just hilarious.

Hang in there Nettie, I feel for the ‘beginners’ getting dumped into the deep end.

Butters, I remember a quote my Mom had, supposedly from the wife of Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes… “Divorce, never. Murder, possibly.” Once husband-unit can resume ‘nermal’ things, I suspect it’ll get better.

Everybody have a good Cinco de Mayo.

Morning, MMPers,

You ever just wake up with a pit of dread in your stomach? Ugh. I don’t know if I feel like something bad will happen (I mean, obviously it will, it kind of constantly is) or if it’s, at this point, just dreading sort of the fact of getting through yet another day.

I do have things to possibly look forward to today, I guess. I got some polymer clay in the last grocery order and was going to make something with the kid for Mother’s Day (and/or just for the hell of it). I’m also waiting for a package that was supposed to come on Friday. It’s another project. Tracking says it “left the FedEx facility” on April 28 and nothing else since. May 1st has been the projected delivery date for a while and it’s a subscription box, so it usually comes more like the 23rd. I know they’re overloaded and I should be patient, but I may give FedEx a call today anyway.

My little semiferal Meadowlark is being especially lovey/whiny today. I love her dearly and always feel a bit special when she chooses me (I mean, not that she ever chooses anyone else, but when she chooses to come to me vs running away), but also really kind of want to be left alone today. But I always know- she’ll be chilling out on the cat tree and then starts crying super loudly out of nowhere and I know that’s my advance signal that she’ll be over here on the bed in a minute demanding cuddles. My other cat, Arthur, is up in my grill right now as well, which makes me wonder if there’s something they actually want.

Happy Toosday!

It’s a chilly 45 degrees this morning, supposed to get up to 57 and be cloudy all day.

{{{Butters}}}

No playdate today, and the dogs have been bratty.
We were out of dog treats (still had some biscuits), all their treats got delivered yesterday - da jungle subscribe and save.
Ripple came in this morning so I gave him one of his favoirite treats, but Ripple will not just take a treat. First I have to ‘beat’ him with it, smacking it up and down his back, then I have to tease him by holding it in front of him and pulling it back, then I pretend to eat it, throw it on the floor and run and grab it before he can get it, lather, rinse, repeat. He loves the game and as long as Echo is still outside we can play.
For whatever reason today, instead of running off to eat his treat he dropped it in front of Echo, and so we had to start the game all over again. Then when he finally took the treat, Echo was done with hers and wanted his, so I gave her a few biscuits. Only I was sitting at my desk and she got tangled in all the cords and pulled everything off the desk, including my laptop, which fell face down.
It seems to be irking - so far.

Cupcakes I had a bat in the house a while back. Ripple caught it, had to take him in for a rabies booster the next day.
It took us an hour and a half to get it out of here, don’t know if it survived I think Ripple did some damage to it.

I wish the damn dog park would open.

I like spam, can’t find it though. Also can’t find baked beans, ramen noodles, or dishwasher detergent. Ramen noodles aren’t very keto, but I would have loved them for my sore throat last week. Wonton soup is better when I am sick, but the Chinese place is so busy they won’t deliver. I wish I had bought a freezer so we could stock up on meat, but I let my son talk me out of it.
I need to go to the grocery store today. I have a list but no guarantees I can get everything on it.

Nuts, my son also had to write about when he learned from the team assignment. He was going to mention that he already knew he didn’t like team assignments and this assignment reminded him why.
Nellie, all of his upper lever managment classes were mostly team assignments, I think it is designed to prepare them for real life in the business world.
There are always slackers on the team though. My son is never the team leader, but he is always one of the hardest workers. Last semester he wrote all the reports, and even when other members contributed, he did all the editting and rewrites. He is very anal about it though. This class he did all the power points, and all the editting and rewrites, and well as contributing to a lot of the writing. His strenghts are writing and editting, and paying attention to details.

Five more assignments and he is done. Three of those are final exams. He has one last paper for Jazz, which he was going to not work so hard on as he can get a low grade on it and still get an A in the class, but his professor gives him nice comments on his papers and told him how much he appreciates the work my son puts into them. Now my son feels like he can’t let the professor down by turning in a crappy paper.
I told my son that a lot of students take these music classes thinking they will be an easy A, (I had a client who was a Jazz professor and he told me a lot of his students thought his class would be an easy A and how it annoyed him that they werent serious about learning. They also found out pretty quickly that it was not going to be an easy A.), so he probably appreciates students who do take the class seriously and put some effort into it. I’m sure the music (and art) professors would rather be making a living off making music and art rather than teaching, so to have students who aren’t passionate about the subject is probably disappointing to them.
Ten more days and school is over, he should get his diploma sometime in July.

I can’t until he is done, the yard needs a good trimming and mulching. I have a new window blind that needs to be hung. Pita because it has to be cut to fit, it takes two of us to cut it. He can hang it without using the step ladder, so better for him to do it. All the windows need to be washed, that is his job as well. I have furniture to move that I can’t move by myself. A new shower head that needs to be installed. The truck needs a washing and he does a better job than I do. I noticed the car wash is open and seems to be a place where people are meeting up. I have bags and boxes of stuff sitting around waiting to be donated or given to family/friends who can use it. He can get all of his books and school stuff out of the living room, all the clutter makes me irritable. I also have a big box of electronics that need to be recycled. I don’t know if Best Buy is taking them now, or I guess it can wait until November when the city takes them.

My stimulus check is supposed to be mailed on Firday. After all the trouble of being told I wasn’t eligible or my eligibility hasn’t be determined, to finally saying I was eligible and to enter my banking info, and now I’m getting a check anyway. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. That is one piece of mail I want to get before the dogs get it. Ripple is good about bringing me the mail in good condition, but sometimes Echo grabs it and she can get it a bit soggy. Or she won’t bring it to me and drops it somewhere in the house. At least neither of them will chew it up.
Ripple also likes to bring me my slippers, but he usually only brings one, so one will be upstairs and one downstairs. Which is better than Echo, who likes to carry one outside and drop it on the deck. I think she thinks if I have to go outside to get it, I will stay outside. If she had her way we’d all live outside.

Well I awoke with fire in my ass and told him exactly what I think ( through text) since he was out and about. Now he is really mad but at least he has a reason. Leave me the hell alone old grouch. I am tired of tiptoeing around him. And yes I am a bitch when the need arises. Most of the time I am nice.

Since I have the house to myself (ha) I shall do whatever I want. I am doing laundry but I feel sloth in my future. Watching some inane TV. I did receive an email in draft form for reset, recovery and returning to irk. Still not any time soon methinks.

As far as meat we are OK. I think. At this point I don’t care. And I like spam too. Fried hard and mixed into beans and rice with onions. Now I want spam.

I definitely read this at first as “I like sperm.”
Like… I bet you could find it if you tried hard enough.

Can’t say I really like sperm, although the method of delivery can be pretty pleasant.
Kind of wasted on somebody at my age though, they are going to be pretty disappointed when there is no egg to be found.
I, however, am quite happy that at my age, there are no longer any eggs to be found.

I would check that the Jungle subscription hasn’t been increased.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I got Gordie a good walk in between rain sprinkles. I had chorizo and egg tacos for breakfast, since it’s Cinco De Mayo. And I haven’t been stocking up on meat yet. But it has been hit or miss at HT.

You must be exhausted! But hope they can clear it up for you.

Plus hurricane season.:smack:

And Happy Anniversary, Sunny! and Happy Birthday Beemer!

Old, Ding, or man?

Dunno, there may be stiff competition.

Finally got to the credit union to deposit a check, and I ran into Food Lion - holy crap, have things gotten expensive!! But I got some apples, some oranges, a sack of russets, some tissues (I was nice and just took one 3-pack), and 4# of ground beef. Both freezers are way stuffed. No more shopping till we eat more of what’s in there.

The ribs are in the oven. I rubbed them and for now, they’re covered. About an hour before we eat, I’ll remove the foil covers. Sides will be crinkle fries, carrots, and probably something that SIL will like, since he doesn’t much like carrots.

**FCD **has to go get another blood test today - his last one is apparently “too old” for his surgery. Nothing like waiting till the last minute. We were afraid they’d have to postpone again, but so far, so good.

Roxy is napping, so it’s a good time to read.

I do have to remember to check it each month.
I’m pretty good at estimating what I’ll need how often, but every now and then I start getting a pretty good supply of something. Like I just got six bottles of body wash and I already had two and a half.
I have enough room to store them, and they won’t go bad, but I don’t need that much.
It’s also why I have 80+ rolls of TP and 14 bags of cough drops.

I sm dreading the trip to the store. I wonder if weis put arrows on the floor? I heard martin’s did, but I don’t go there. My neighbor told me she got yelled at for stepping one step in the wrong way to grab something near the end of the aisle, and there wasn’t even anybody else there except an employee. She also told me that you are not allowed to pass other people in the aisles, so if some dumb ass wants to stand there for five minutes trying to decide what to get, everybody else has to just stand there, 6 feet apart, and wait for them.

I do not have the patience for that. I already get snarky with the dumb asses who park their carts in the middle of the aisle so nobody else can get through while they make up their mind what to get. And God help the person who gets in the express line with more than 12 items if I happen to be the one who gets in line behind them.
It would probably be better for everybody if I wait in the truck while my son goes in.
He has way more patience than I do, and he doesn’t know how to be snarky. However, he is helpless in the grocery store, he’d never find anything on the list and come out with a cartful of ice cream.

I pass, I’ll step in the wrong end of an aisle if what I need is right there, and so far, no one has said anything. Today I turned abruptly and almost took out an employee who was passing to my left, but we apologized to each other and life went on.

Then again, there were no arrows on the floor. In fact, there was no floor - apparently as part of the overhaul of our Food Lion, they’re replacing the floor tile. Most of the store is bare cement floor at the moment - all the arrows they’d put down are gone. Alas!!

Well, I did it. I guess. Our shower had developed a slow drip. Wifey was adamant that it was the cold water faucet. Unfortunately, when they (the mysterious ‘they’) plumbed this house, they didn’t put any shutoff valves in the lines to the various fixtures. I had to shut off the water at the main where it comes in from the street. When they had a burst water pipe a while back the contractor who fixed it did put in a shut off valve where the pipe from the street comes through the basement wall.
Anyway, we have a house full of family, so naturally Wifey wanted it fixed right now! So while she took them for a walk this morning, I shut off the water and took the faucet apart. OMG! This is definitely not my first rodeo, but I have never seen a contraption like that before. It was ingenious, really. I have to admit that I was impressed with how well designed it was. Unfortunately, I was sure that our little hardware store wouldn’t have a replacement. I’m not sure the big box stores would have parts. And I couldn’t find anything wrong with it anyway. So I put it back together (it went back together quite easily) and it didn’t leak! Prolly some small bit of detritus in the works that got dislodged while I was fiddling with it.
All’s well that ends well and all that.

Well, Wifey and the gang are back and she won’t stop talking to me, so I gotta get offa here.

Stay safe out there.

Kroger stores here take up the tile, polish the concrete and seal it. It looks sharp. I wish I could afford to do that to the fish room.

Home from the store. I hate masks, I feel like I can’t breathe and it gets hot under there.
No arrows on the floor.
Couldn’t find any spam, the canned meat section was mostly wiped out except for tuna, but I did find baked beans and they were on sale.
I have tuna in the cabinet, I’m loking for a home for it. I tried to make tuna salad one day and almost gagged on it. I bought the wrong kind.
I don’t know what I paid for any of the meat, but there was plenty.
I spent $235 and we should be good for at least three weeks, probably four, except we’ll need more water.
The freezer is so packed I had to take the turkey breast out, but it will take a few days to thaw, and by then I’ll be ready to do something with it.

I told my son that once this mess is over and the daycare reopens, I am taking him to the store to teach him how to shop. he hasn’t set foot in a grocery store since… the last time I remember, the cashier knew him from high school, and I could tell by the way she was looking at him that she thought he was cute. So it’s probably been 7 years or more since he was in a store.

I have a dr appointment tomorrow, but it is a teleconference, so at least I don’t have to go out.
My mother’s Mother’s Day gift should be there Thorsday, it seems da jungle shipped it faster than expected.
She went to costco one day early for the senior hour and they wouldn’t let my niece’s bf in with her because he isn’t a senior. She said she needed his help, so a store employee walked around with her and loaded her cart.

Making Chipolte chicken for Cinco de Mayo., with cilantro lime rice, Gordie has a new afternoon ritual. We don’t go for a real walk, we just go down, stand in the sun, and stare at the pool. I guess the stay at home order is getting to him, too.

Well, it looks good till they have to jackhammer a hole in it to fix something. The patches never look as good.

Sari, don’t you love when the idjits blocking the aisle give you dirty looks because you are just patiently waiting for them to get their shit together?

The ribs were yum! But I should have only made 1 rack. Then again, we have leftovers. If they don’t get eaten in the next few days, I’ll pick the meat off and do something with it.

Meanwhile, dishes are washing, it’s starting to rain, and I’m free to veg the evening away.
