I napped. There was a storm nearby, because I had a 10 second power outage. Made an Avation, lemon butter perch, and spinach, rice and 'shrooms.
Yay!

Smuggler’s Tunnel Speakeasy for dinner tonight. We each had two Hemingway daiquiris. I got the Tower Burger (two 8-ounce cheeseburger patties) without the brioche bun, and with a salad instead of fries. Mrs. L.A. had deep-fried dill pickle chips. I ate my salad and one patty. Mrs. L.A. gave me her spicy sauce for the dill pickles in exchange for my thousand island dressing. I brought home the other patty, and I’ll have it on Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread tomorrow (probably); and we brought home some deep-fried pickle chips. Having some wine now.
Tomorrow morning I need to go to a former (?) Doper’s house to get some firewood. I’ll take my axes, splitting maul, sledge hammer, and wedges so I can make firewood out of the logs. I’ll need to clean out the Jeep first. Mrs. L.A. plans to weed the front lawn. I’ll stop at Bevmo! before tackling the wood, as I won’t want to be too grungy and sweaty. (I’ll be wearing my grubby jeans though, and the T-shirt I wore walking today – plus my 25-or-30-year-old Gap denim jacket.)
Yay!
You have your priorities in line.
Oy, veh.
Yes, I’ve had two Hemingway daiquiris and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. For some reason, I remembered that I had a Macanudo cigar that’s been laying around for over 20 years. I don’t have a humidor, but it’s not exactly arid here in the Pacific Northwest. Fuelled with alcohol, I decided to smoke it. Good smoke (minimal inhalation), but it took me a hour to smoke it. Had to have some rum to help me along.
Crikey! It’s after 22:00! Maybe I should go to bed.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Up to pee.
Down to sleep.
Not sheveled.
How nice …
… oh, my. { blinks }
Every time I - or someone I know - has dealt with this, it’s, yup, after hours. Every. @$%! Time.
Guess your lil’ girl is a grown-ass woman now.
{ pats Metal Mouse on the head }
I haz many happys for you!
That’s a shitty feeling, thinking you’re over someone and finding out you’re … not.
Pretty sure I can guess the reason(s).
Out by 1:45 a.m. not bad considering it was just three of us closing on a Friday night, one of whom wasn’t even supposed to close but someone else was having a bad day and the roster is short handed as it is.
I don’t know the details, but in a physically small kitchen there aren’t many secrets. I turned from the window to go get an order - I knew S.M. was having a semi-private convo with someone else and was genuinely trying to give them space - but I turned around just in time to see that 19-y-o just melt sobbing onto her shoulder.
Guessing either family stuff, or his teenage heart just got broken.
Poor kid.
There were many whispered convos among management and he left with the other early outs instead of closing. Looked like he needed to be elsewhere.
Having had bad days, I get it.
As far as being understaffed goes … we lost one of my favorite Oven Masters a while ago, and now one of the other guys I really liked working with is leaving, and flat-out didn’t show today so he’s off my “Nice” list, hmph. What is it with the good men in my life taking off but the P.O.S. stick around like old cobwebs?
the heat came back but the humidity finally cracked for about a 45-minute shower…
my mom had a friend who just had a baby and all already had 3 kids that were like 3 years apart at most and she apparently had a cat that had kittens also
well after a month or so she was still nursing the baby but the kittens had grown big enough to climb around on their own well after a long day after a feeding she just flopped on the couch and passed out …
.well apparently one of the kittens climbed up and noticed she was dripping a bit …cat put 2 and 2 together and was having a snack … well at first she said she thought it was the hubby of that year getting in the mood .. until the teeth and claws were being used… and she woke up there was a very happy kitten slurping away … she detached kitten and called the vet who had a good laugh and said kitten would be ok and then ordered a kitten proof nursing bra …
which is how I found out that in some zoos/rescues etc that when the jungle feline cubs don’t have a mom locals have been known to wetnurse then because the big cats need something in human milk that a house cat doesn’t have usually
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and partly N.O.S. with a predicted high of 90 with light rain showers predicted late afternoon. YP’s first Sunday with us is tomorrow, so we will be havin’ a large and in charge first Sunday brunch. The church provides the meats and everyone else brings sides and desserts. Thus I shall make a chawklit sheet cake with chawklit pee-kahn icin’ and a veggie casserole. Lemonade, and tea are also bein’ provided, so no need to make any of that. We shall have omelets, grits, and bizkits for brunch as today’s main need to feed.
red the locker bookmarks are tres cool! I would have loved one of those as a skool young’un. Then again, I was nerdy so…
Sticky_Buns hooray for MusicMan! Also, glad you feel good about the decision to turn down the job. If you really don’t want to teach, then it is best for you.
JtC hope you can get Bella fixed soonest. I am surprised the rescue place didn’t spay her.
FlyBoy glad the cigar was still good. An occasional really good cigar is a fine thing indeed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Nothing like starting the day by unfollowing someone on FB. She’s the mother of one of Daughter’s best friends from Florida and a nice person, but of late, she’s taken to posting glurgey religious memes. That’s almost as bad as being preached at. And I don’t get it - she was never like that when I was around her IRL. Come to think of it, one of my oldest friends from my high school days got super-religious on FB fairly recently. I don’t care what people believe or don’t believe, but I don’t want it thrust in my face, thanks. Unfollowing is an easy way to deal with it, since neither of these women live anywhere near me.
End of morning rant. We may or may not have a rainy weekend. FCD has decided to work at home, thank goodness. That’s as close as he’s come to taking a day off. If he won’t take a real break, at least he’s not going to be climbing in and out of the engine room… So that’s good.
My plans include some roll-suckage and turning the living room area rug 180°, If I get bored enough, I might even dust < gasp!! > And I need to call my mom - Daughter and I would like to take her spawn to visit their great-grandmother and have a swim before she closes the pool for the season. I just hope her calendar is open on the day we want to visit.
Not sure what else may be on the agenda. I’ll wing it.
Happy Saturday!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/67f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “Sometimes, stratus clouds are known as “high fog”. I knew it! Fucking dope smokers!” This kind of weather is perfect for me, it’s not raining but it’s not hot either, just pleasantly warm.
Nearly unbelievable great news here…
Hurrah for MusicMan’s success, I hope that means you’ll be getting help of some sort? And yay to you for turning down a job offer. You’re right, you need to make your mental health a priority too, it’s not worth the money if all it does it make you feel worse.
Bella is in heat.
Boo! That’s annoying, especially as I would normally expect a rescue to have done the neutering before they allowed her to be rehomed. Part of the costs that are associated with what Little Paws charges to rehome a cat is to cover the vet bill for neutering, flea and worm treatments, and vaccinations.
Nothing like starting the day by unfollowing someone on FB.
I had to do the same the other day, I made a comment on a friend’s post (the comment was directed specifically at him, it’s a bit of an in-joke for us, and he understood exactly what I meant by it) which prompted another person to start a brexit/EU/Europe argument despite being told he was misinterpreting the comment and that his opinion was both unnecessary and unwelcome. Unfriended at first, then I decided to block him as well.
shoe Going out for a pig sounds like a perfectly acceptable activity, although a post-gig bacon butty could have combined it all very nicely.
We went out to see a couple of bands last night, the upstairs room at the pub was like a sauna but I managed to find a spot at the back where I got a slight bit of cooler air from the hallway out to the fire escape doors. Much fun was had, after the bands finished we went downstairs and sat outside, then met up with a couple of guys we only ever see in a pub. Had some laughs, had a few more beers, then went home.
I’ve got very little planned for today, I need to go into town for a couple of things so will do that this afternoon, might have lunch here or might go to the Good Chinese Place, haven’t decided yet. Tomorrow will be busy as Little Paws has a stall at the local pub’s “funday” to celebrate Jamaican independence. There will be a couple of DJs and a reggae band providing entertainment, and if the weather’s fine we’ll be able to set up our stand outside in the beer garden which is always a good spot.
Better get on, there’s tea to drink and decisions to be made!
We have had quite the storm. Hurricane force winds and trees are down all over the city. Locally, we spent a whole day clearing our front yard of the debris from the house next doors maple tree.
It is a sordid tale. The present “owner”, who lives about ninety minutes away in another state, is the sister of my neighbor. Michelle and her husband lived there for a couple of years. They were nice enough people but had a stormy relationship augmented by a lot of alcohol use. She was the major breadwinner. They ended up in a pretty nasty divorce, and he left. A few months later we were awakened by someone pounding on our door before dawn. It turned out to be Michelle’s sister (the present “owner”) who told us that Michelle had committed suicide.
The ex husband was still the beneficiary of the life insurance and he took the money and disappeared. The sister was pleasant enough for a while. We helped her clear out the house. Once she had all of the stuff she was done with the whole thing. A friend of mine who flips houses asked If I could put him in contact with her. I called her and she told me that, with the mortgage and all of the remaining credit card bills and other expenses the financial situation is way under water. She said if puts it through probate she will be responsible for the expenses as well. They had overpaid for the house to begin with and there is no equity at all so she just plans to let it go to foreclosure or be taken for past due taxes, whichever comes first.
This was the beginning of last summer. Various things have happened and I get no response to the texts I send. Between the neighbor on the other side and us the lawn is mowed and I clear the driveway in the winter. I have been parking my truck there to make it look like the house is occupied. Last summer a pretty large branch came down on the roof and was still there. I was parked there just before the storm and when the wind came up I moved my truck onto the street.
We spent the whole day after the storm moving all of the downed limbs off of our property and back into her driveway. I sent a picture and, as usual, got no response. As far as we are concerned all of that stuff will stay where it is until it rots. I imagine it will be snow covered next winter.
Nearly unbelievable great news here…
That is so wonderful, I am so happy for you.
George has been snipped, right?
Oh yes. We don’t want to live with an intact male cat, just cleaning the litter box would be a stinky, reeking nightmare.
So while he knows he should be doing something, he doesn’t know what it is that he should be doing and he doesn’t have the equipment to help him figure it out.
She calmed down last night but this morning Hubs locked GG up with me because the poor guy couldn’t get away from her.
Every time I - or someone I know - has dealt with this, it’s, yup, after hours. Every. @$%! Time.
I’m sure it’s in the rules. It’s just past nine now, I’m going to call the rescue shortly and see what we have to do to get this fixed.
which is how I found out that in some zoos/rescues etc that when the jungle feline cubs don’t have a mom locals have been known to wetnurse then because the big cats need something in human milk that a house cat doesn’t have usually
TIL, thank you. That is pretty interesting
I am surprised the rescue place didn’t spay her.
Quite frankly, our flabber is quite gasted over this.
Now that I’ve had time to think about this, the rescue might have had her spayed and the vet accidentally left a piece of ovarian tissue. That would be enough to cause her to cycle even if she can’t get preggy now.
But whatever happened, it needs to be fixed and soon.
Boo! That’s annoying, especially as I would normally expect a rescue to have done the neutering before they allowed her to be rehomed.
I just left a message for the rescue, but now in the clear light of day…I’m really thinking it was a mistake during surgery, not that surgery didn’t happen.
They had overpaid for the house to begin with and there is no equity at all so she just plans to let it go to foreclosure or be taken for past due taxes, whichever comes first.
That looks like it was a nice place, its a shame you will be living next to it for years until its torn down.
Nothing like starting the day by unfollowing someone on FB.
I have a few folks like that. I also have some that I unfollow during election years, if you get my drift.
hippy, that is indeed a sad tale. Just as sad that a formerly decent house will go to waste in the end.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, KP done and fixing to get sheveled to take the small beast to the dog park. Not a whole lot else shaking today.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I heard back from the rescue, they want us to take Bella to their vet on Monday and we will go from there.
Poor fuzzbutts are so confused.
Another sweltering weekend, but better days next week.
I bought Q’itih an elevated food dish, thinking it would be easier for her to eat. Her rear legs are in poor shape and tend to slide out from under her when eating. After a couple of days of that setup she started vomiting frothy saliva, which was something we haven’t seen before. So last night I went back to her regular dish, and. . .no more vomiting. WTH? I think I’ll start giving her some plain scrambled eggs for a change of pace. They’re high in protein and amino acids and easy to digest.
Speaking of the cat, I ordered a bag of litter and a box of pee pads some days ago. Chewy says they were delivered. I saw the box in the mailroom, but when I went back the next day to get it, it had disappeared. Aides in the building sometimes deliver packages, so now it becomes a hunt for who has $50 worth of my stuff. To be fair, the address labels from Chewy are sometimes hard to read, but surely someone would know if they actually ordered cat litter and would return it to the mail room. The joys of communal living.
Speaking of which, the elevator was back up for about 30 minutes, then crapped out again. Apparently it needs a new motherboard.
Afternoon all. Slept in late today and then went to soccer practices, so no time for a morning message. Did manage to do the rest of my swimming last night but was one of the last dozen or so people out of the gym, so that might explain why I slept so well. Have just finished a couple of BLT’s so will head over to the gym to work them out sometime this afternoon, outside of that slothage will be the rule. No rain but it is 88F outside.
hippy, not a happy story, hopefully the foreclosure will be soon and the new owners will improve the house.
Sticky Buns, Great news for Music Man and yourself! And hope the right job comes along for you soon.
JtC, sounds like you have a plan for Bella, it is a mystery as to why see wasn’t fixed pre-adoption, but your theory sounds likely.
flyboy, a 16=oz burger, daiquiris, wine, and a cigar. Now, define Hedonism…
shoe, 19-year olds are walking problems…or about-to-have-problems. Kudos for S.M. listening and having a shoulder available to cry on and you for being there, but not there, if you get my drift.
shady, that was an…interesting…story.
swampy, now you have me hungry for a chocolate cake with pecan icing…not enough to drive 400 miles, mind you, but the though did occur to me…
FCM, don’t think I’ve ever had to unfollow anyone due to religious tomes, albeit I have a few religious friends there, only some political blocks (both sides).
boo fae, so you get to do good for the animal shelter and hear some reggae? Call that a win-win IMHO.
cookie, good luck on the cat litter search.
And that should about catch me up. Still need to hang up clothes and plan for the gym time, so take care all.
So I had the 100 and 200 Slides running smoothly, then I got called up to the Mez to help fix that apocalypse, along with Deb, W.B., and Hazardous Ken. And when that got fixed and I went back, the 100 and 200 Slides were FUBAR. So that took fixing. but now I’m on holiday for the next 8 days.
“Make your vacation gin&tonics more vacation-y by adding a cocktail umbrella. Follow me for more tips.”
What is it with the good men in my life taking off but the P.O.S. stick around like old cobwebs?
Are you saying I should vacate the MMP?
But the good ones always have options, the P.O.S.s have to stay.
one of my oldest friends from my high school days got super-religious
To be fair, I do yell “JESUS CHRIST!” when a Beemer swerves into my lane at high speed. I don’t unfollow people, I figure I’m their online divine punishment.
It is a sordid tale.
That it is.
OMG, if I hear one more time about her father’s vegetable garden, I may start throwing things. That seems to have replaced the gravy stories.
I try to be patient and understanding, but dealing with her is exhausting! I get email every day about cruise deals and I so want to book a long one far away from here.
Severe t-storm watch this afternoon. The wind has picked up. We could use more rain, even if it does turn the outdoors into a sauna. I harvested some more little 'maters and I saw several big ones that should ripen this week.
Ok, back to my trashy novels.
FCM, Did he sell his spare veggies to Costco??
