(Old) A Big Birthday in the MMP

Errands have been run. Then I cleaned the fridge - Go Me!!! I’ve got the ice maker running and I just made my lunch. I need to decide what to defrost for supper.

This evening, I take my car to the shop to get its oil changed tomorrow. Here’s hoping they don’t find anything too expensive, but at 215K miles, it wouldn’t be a big surprise.

I harvested the second cantaloupe, and discovers 2 others that the bugs got to, dammit. But I got 3 more cukes. Again, there was a huge one that I hadn’t spotted before. Stealth cukes!!

Just another day…

Somehow everything went well at work. Tuesday must indeed be The Screwup Fairy’s day off. I did my Aldi run, fed Spot, and now it’s naptime.

That indicates you have feral rubbish collectors.

If you start replying to work requests on Teams meetings with interpretive dance, people will leave you alone. Just saying. But enjoy vacation!

It occured to be that since yuo turned 70, that means no more 69 for you. :stuck_out_tongue:

The trick is to be free from ID-10-T issues.

this is so wonderful. i’m glad that gg has a new buddy. living up to the love seat name.

i’m glad to hear they are enjoying tiki cat. koritza enjoys the “after dark” pack. one of those has half of a wee hard boiled egg. it took her a bit to warm up to it. she eats it last. i don’t know if it is a save it to last because it is good, or save it to last and perhaps i’ll give it to lager at some point.

last night was more furniture shuffling. this time there was a switch between the kitchen and utility room. base boards tripped me up in measuring for a pantry shelving unit. it fits better in the utility closet than the kitchen.

now the kitchen is quite the piled up mess as items from the 2 pieces had to be removed before moving. i am hoping koritza doesn’t knock things all over the place before i can get to them today.

jif has introduced a new peanutbutter and chocolate thing. they have landed in phila and they were 2 fer at target. jars and wee to goes, i’ve brought it to the office. people are going wild.

Amen to that. I hope all is well and resolved soon.

Hooray!!!

Can you put it in the freezer, wrapping each slice individually?

Was I over here recently? Did I say Happy Birthday to the Swampster? I can’t remember and I’m not gonna look.

It’s been… Interesting here. As of last Friday the online gig that I had has booted me because - reasons. Because I am the primary breadwinner this was a major freak out moment. Since that time I have had one interview, accepted one job and then rescinded due to location vs. pay and scheduled three or so more interviews. I was very out of sorts, but my therapist managed to squeeze me in today and we talked and I feel better.

I’ve just eaten some leftover lasagna (with extra cheese!) and now it’s about nap time!

Oh, and I thought y’all were talking about Jo-jo potatoes, not cookies.

thank god one good thing this week happened the heat wave broke about Saturday or sunday and it’s still warm but it’s getting almost cold at night … it’s not going to last tho

Went in for the MRA today for my long-standing aneurysm. I’m surprised it didn’t rupture on the way to the hospital what with all the road construction detours on the way there. Very frustrating.

Went to make breakfast this morning; when I opened the fridge, the light inside was strobing like a mad thing (still is). Glad neither of us is epileptic. I’ve never seen a light act like that. I’m guessing it’s some sort of LED bulb.

Off to get our farm share veg in a short while.

I sure do miss our weekly surprise boxes. They were a great meal planning aid. “This week we got 10 lbs of sweet potatoes, how am I going to use them before they go bad?”

I might not live in the desert but I still keep an eye on the weather in your neck of the woods. It was sounding pretty brutal from all reports. I’m glad you are getting some relief.

Oh geeze, that really sucks. Are you eligible for any unemployment benefits? I hope you find something fast!

I think that’s what hubs got, he showed me the open can with the little egg. GG has been eating more canned now that Bella is here. Bella might be a lil dainty thing, but she eats like a typical teenager. He knows that any food he leaves in his dish won’t be there later so he better eat it all now. We’d both rather that they ate more canned than kibble, so we are happy about it.

I would have thought that you were smarter than this cause the Screwup Fairy has ears everywhere!

Cars nowadays are built to last that long and longer as long as the owner keeps on up on the maintenance. I think you will be pleased.

It’s actually starting to look like a home. GG remembered the recliner, hubs wanted to stretch out for a nap today and GG heard the noise and came right in to help him get a good nap. I was kinda surprised, it’s been a month ana half since they last napped on the recliner together.

Booze doesn’t go bad. Use it when you make cranberry sauce this Thanksgiving, it adds a nice flavor.

That’s a good news/bad news thing all right. I had to have a lesion removed once and it wasn’t a whole lot of fun. I hope the procedure and healing is fast and easy.

That is so very true, LOL!!!

So I had the meet and greet with my new doctor today. Since everyone I meet feels free to ask what brought me to WV, I felt free to ask him how a Puerto Rican doctor ended up in rural WV 20 years ago. He looked rather surprised and said that most people think he’s Mexican.

I didn’t tell him that his facial features looked more Spanish than Mexican, I was worried that might sound racist, but I did tell him that I could hear the difference in his accent.

When he finished his residency, he wanted to experience working in a poor, rural area so signed a year contract with the hospital in Logan. When he got there, he was already planning his getaway but then he met a girl and the rest was history.

When I told him that I was planning on getting my MMJ card, he said he did those exams too and told his receptionist to get my imaging records from Prescott Valley.

While I was out, I took some of those horrible lace and satin drapes to the local thrift shop. The lady who took them said that they would probably be bought by one of several ladies who bought that sort of thing to cut up for crafting. They are made of quality materials, if I was making wedding dresses for dolls, I’d probably be pretty happy to find them too.

I also dropped off a few returns at the UPS sto and noticed that a new dispensary was going in next door. HB 4873 is working it’s way through the General Assembly as I type, it is very possible that it recreational MJ will be legal before the year is out. WV politicians are seeing how much tax money other states are getting and they want some too.

awww, nap buddies.

yep, getting tax money has really paved the way for cannabis legalization.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until dirty again. Then we had some quality cee-mint pond time for almost two hours. Started hearin’ thunder in the distance so it was back to da cave for us. I showered and then achieved nappage. No rain etc. happened here at da cave. We decided to have an early sup. Whilst I was fryin’ bacon and gettin’ fries ready I thought I heard thunder. Then, all of a sudden, KA*BOOM and the bottom fell out for almost an hour. We et and are now in chill mode. Netflix, chill, and popcorn are up in a little while. Thus it is in swampland.

My mantra has always been “It’s not going away. Legalize it, regulate it and tax it.” Arizona said they would use the tax money for improving access to secondary education, but it keeps getting “borrowed” for other reasons.

There was still a black market in AZ, but I choose to not participate. I’d rather pay more for a known product in a well lit store than wait in a parking lot for something of unknown quality delivered by a druggie who was selling to support their habit.

I just went out and took this pic. It is the house I can see out if the side window in my room.

Imgur

The forest is reclaiming it, I can see growth happening almost daily. The windows are unbroken and the door is closed. It was a nice home once. Someone comes over ever couple of weeks to mow the grass, cause mowing the lawn is the state hobby but after he puts the mower back in the shed, he leaves.

I just learned the story behind it. The owners died of old age and left the home to their children. As they didn’t update their will after one of the five had died, the children of that person wanted his share of the money and went to court over it. They won the case, but selling would require all of the now pissed off children to agree to sell, not just the grand kids of the one child.

Due to the lawsuit, nobody could take things from the house (hence that old dryer on the front porch), so spite will claim it all.

Hubs hates the house. I am seeing that the edge of the porch closes to us is starting to droop and being a fan of disaster movies am hoping I’m awake and at home when that pillar collapses.

Lucky for us we get to pick what we want. Got a nice small bag of red potatoes and a beautiful white onion today, among other things.

Got the MRA results back. Nothing has changed, which is great news, and they’ve changed the frequency of scans to five years. There’s an even chance that I’ll be pushing up daisies by then.

Lager got the wee egg today. Koritza decided not to eat it and the dish must be washed for tonight’s last night snack.

Some time back, I told my car guy, Paul, my goal was to get to 250K miles. He said I should be able to since I go in every 5K miles. Only 35,000 to go!! FCD freaks out when a vehicle gets close to 100K - his brain is stuck in the 60s.

My sister’s husband and his sibs had a pissing contest over their mother’s home. The elder brother wanted to buy the house from them all at waaaaay under market value because he has a buyer all lined up for an instant profit. Luckily, one of the sisters was executor and she refused. It took some time, and loss due to property taxes coming due as well as legal fees. I don’t think any of them speak the the elder brother any more. Ass.

Supper was pretty good. I sliced the steak, floured the slices and seared them, then cooked it all with onions and mushrooms, finally topping them all with mushroom gravy. Served over rice - very tasty.

Chillage shall proceed.

Good afternoon to all. Pedaling a bike to nowhere has been accomplished and then back home for a mid-day snack and apple, so need to head over to Walgreens to pick up a prescription (was going to do that after the gym but managed to forget about it until I was home). No soccer that I am involved with tonight, but might drop by the fields just to watch and maybe get a walk in before dinnertime. It’s 94F so it’s liable to be a short walk…

FCM, here’s hoping the car is in good shape. I’m closing in on 75,000 miles and may need to look at a new set of tires come the next oil change. Guess I’m more like FCD in terms of car use.

Not to mention International rubbish collectors…

Sticky Buns, good luck on the job hunt.

cookie, never had a light strobe like that, but the light in my freezer compartment is out, so guess I need to read the manual to find out how to replace it. And great news of the MRA.

JtC, sounds like you’ve established a good relationship with the Doc. And sad story about the house across the way, sometime family property is not a good thing. WOnder if it’ll ever get sold/used again.

swampy, yeah the weather here has a way of sneaking up on you, seems like a calm enough day, then a few clouds and a couple of rumbles and WHAM! Take care.

OK, need to head over and get my prescription picked up and maybe do a little walking. Take care all.

Indiana did / said the same things about the lottery years ago.

Irked, came home, emailed insurance docs to my apartment office for my new lease, walked Nelson and et. Two days down and two to go.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Having a nice plate of spaghetti, watching it rain out the window.
Tomorrow is a dental visit for plaster casting.
Also an interview.

Neither of ours eat the egg. Hubs has taken the time to cut it up and even smoosh it up, but they just eat around it.

Hubs’ car is a 2017 and he wants to replace it. There isn’t anything wrong with it, no major repairs are needed but it is old and has a lot of miles on it. The man spent most of his working life around cars and dealerships. He KNOWS that his car will still be in good shape for many years to come, but he still lives in the days of steel engines.

He sounded like he knew what he was doing so here’s hoping I made the right choice.

Now you are just being silly. This is West Virginia. Grudges are held over generations not years.

Plus, go back and look at the upstairs window at the corner. See how it’s dropping? Now look at the porch roof/floor under the window. It would take a whole lot of money to fix the visible damage AND if the plumbing isn’t used on a regular basis, it breaks.

It was a very nice house with a beautiful forest to look into. If it was offered to me for a dollar, I would turn it down. Tear down and clean up would be more than the land is worth. The forest will take it which will allow the mowing person to finally stop.

Things are getting sorted in the kitchen. I put one thing on the floor while I wiped down the top of the cart thing. Lager zeroed in on the olive wood bowl immediately. I found out years ago that lager has a thing for olive wood and make sure he can’t get to them.

I got it away from him but he found another one. Turns out I had 3 small olive wood items on the lazy Susan thing.

You would think they were made out of catnip wood. He was rubbing his head on them, drooling, and rolling around the floor. I finally got them away from him and washed them.

I came close to naming him Oliver because he has pretty greenish brown olive coloured eyes. If I had known about the olive wood thing…

I napped. Spot napped with me. When he wasn’t stomping me on the way for a better nap position or dreaming and smacking me in the face with his ear, Moe Howard style Having a Manhattan and Redneck Stirfry for dinner.

Carmen is a 2014. She’s still one of the youngest cars I’ve owned

Nah. I know a non-chaotic day is just like being in the eye of a Cat 5 hurricane.

Here’s George demonstrating how cats can expand to take all of the given space.
