(Old) A Head For The Hills MMP

Wheeee!

Yaay for dual puppers there sari!!

Boring here. Did some balconating, some friend-yakking on the phone, some admin crap, and now approaching noon will get sheveled and go meet a retired cow-orker for guys lunch out. Her Ladyship is Girls Day shopping / lunching with her daughter.

Last night I enacted one of my rules of dining and took the opportunity to eat a duck. It did not disappoint.

Sounds like a day full of fun and excitement.

One thing I will be doing is sorting out and ordering my collection of stereoscope cards. I have had them for years but hadn’t seen how many I had. And I made a very peculiar discovery on the back of one card, a name that would be the married name of my maternal great grandmother. Only on that one card, and I never had cards from her, as she died in the early 60’s.

I wish you two could come here, as we are finally getting a really good set of small independent restaurants going.

And microbreweries. You like beer don’t you?

Yeah, fun.

I’ve got the chainsaw reserved for tomorrow morning at 09:30. We’ll go to a (former?) Doper’s house to collect some logs for firewood.

I wiped the dew off of the table, and the cloth came back stained. I’m guessing the water seal will fix that. (Or maybe I should just use Pledge?)

Trash and recycling have been transported. I put some of MIL’s stuff in the attic, but I’ll need help with the rest because of weight and/or bulk. I stripped the cover off the loveseat and it’s in the wash. And the t-shirts that spent the night in the dryer are folded and stowed. I think the house needs a good rollsuck so I guess that’s next on the list.

Scrubbing the boat might have been easier…

Front lawn mowage has been accomplished. Boy, is it easier to mow with a more-or-less level yard! And no dust from bare spots!

Belated birthday wishes, Herald! :tada:

I’m ridiculously happy that it’s Friday, and a holiday weekend. I will almost definitely be able to knock off work a little early today. My only plans for the next three days are on Sunday: I’ll be checking out a new local brunch jazz jam with some friends. I’m looking forward to seeing those friends, and possibly doing some singing for the first time in a month (in public, that is). Otherwise I’ll just be hanging out with the doggy and working on my Van Gogh LEGO set, and enjoying my last solid time off for a while (I have all-day volunteer events the first three Saturdays in June, then on 6/20 I’ll spend ~15 hours as an election officer). The weather is supposed to be really nice tomorrow…I might even take Bailey for a walk*.

It’s just after 1pm here in sunny Northern Virginia, and lunchtime! At first I was planning to sit outside and eat, so I was waiting for it to get just a touch warmer (it was 68°F when I started this post; now it’s 70°F), but I’d rather eat at my desk and then log off early. Happily I have one of the roasted chicken ceasar wraps that I love, plus some perfectly ripe bananas.

*I stopped taking her for walks several years ago, because she’s super jumpy and easily startled and – if scared enough – could wiggle out of most collars/harnesses. Walks became too stressful for both of us. But these days she’s old and less flexible, and while still jumpy/easily startled I recently figured out how to rig up a slip-leash as an “emergency backup” to the harness. Ever since the season change, I’ve been thinking that it might be time to start taking her for walks again; they’d do us both good.

This actually made me say “HA!” out loud. I startled the dog.

I scrolled past that too quickly and read “our beloved Muppets”…which also made me “HA!” out loud!

(I recently watched – and loved – S1 of The Muppets Mayhem on Disney+, so I might have Muppets on the brain.)

Wow, such a big day (for both of you)…I hope all of the returns and final farewells go smoothly!

I read the destructions on the can of stain. It says to finish with [their brand of] polyurethane. It’s amazing what you can learn by reading the destructions! No guessing about water seal or furniture wax!

Afternoon all. the fourth and final load of laundry is in the wash as the third one spins away in the dryer. Once they are done I’ll head over to the bank and gym and that should complete my errands for the day. Tomorrow will be my first Saturday without Soccer in a couple of months, so need to find something to do with myself.

Oopsie, enjoy the comany and the music.

Flyboy, that is why I try not to do anything, once you start other stuff just pops up and it never seems to end.

VanGo, well, don’t leave us in suspense, Man! Did the paint dry??

OK, need to check on the dryer and probably do a little hanging/putting away for the finished laundry. Take care all.

I’m here, I’m alive, but I’m house-sitting (and dog sitting, and cat sitting … look, there’s a lot of sitting involved) and my dumb ass forgot my charger. Shoe lives on, with many cats piled upon her.

I will hafta check back in later, that whole friggin’ “make pizzas for money” groovy thang is calling.

I always enjoyed that part a whole lot, myself.

Hey! You didn’t think this lot could let that straight line pass us by, did you?

Happy belated Birfday, Herald.

We spent the day in The Dalles yesterday. I had an appointment with the blood-letters, and they wanted me to be fasting, so I had to go in to the horsepistol early for that, ‘cause one of my morning drugs shouldn’t be taken on an empty stomach.
Then we went for breakfast at Cousins’ restaurant. It was good. And filling! Oy! We didn’t need any lunch.
Then we spent a couple of hours wandering around Home Depot looking at stuffs. Wifey has this idea that we need to fix/upgrade a bunch of stuff before we put this house up for sale. I think some of it is unnecessary, but I’ve been married a long time, and I don’t feel like arguing.
Then I had a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon. By the time I finished filling out the annoying intake forms and we sat down together she had the report from my tests, so we went over all that stuff.
My numbers were good.
Then we gassed up the car and headed home, getting back about 4:30.

We had had a London broil marinating all day, so I cooked that on the grill while Wifey made a big salad, and that was our dinner.

Then we vegged.

I took my pickup down the street to Barnett’s for an oil change and service this morning. Now I’m reading the Dope and procrastinating.
I should mow the lawn today, but the front yard is still wet from the sprinklers. And Wifey is busy talking to me. I have to listen. There may be a test later.

For those of you who still care, the weekend is coming!

Afternoon, kiddos!

I feel resoundingly OK today, which is so wildly atypical that I’m actually unnerved by my own good mood. I stayed up late last night having drinks and leftover pizza and watching horror movies (remotely) with my pal, then had a really solid night’s sleep. Lounged in bed playing video games (another unconsidered perk of that Switch I got) until 10 am or so, then packed a few things in a little backpack and went outside. Walked to the bank to deposit some cheques and get some laundry quarters, then sat in a shady park and read for a while. I’m reading The Doloriad by Missouri Williams, a distinctly and resolutely warped and ugly little book - I’m quite enjoying it. I always especially enjoy reading really nasty stuff, especially horror, outside in lovely places.

Then I walked to the little local pub for some lunch, then to the grocery store, and now back home. Total of about three miles of walking, which felt real nice since I’m so sedentary these days. Perks of a tiny little town, too, that all my errands are a 20 minute walk away, tops.

Reckon I’ll play some more video games until I feel like making supper, which I imagine will be pad thai or stuffed peppers. Love y’all!

Howdy Y’all! I did the candle thang and then we stuffded ourselves on the soup, sallit, and breadsticks at Olive Garden. After that it was back to da cave for nappage and now, here I am. I do not foresee any need to feed for the rest of the day.

Lucky conga rats to you and Mr. Lucky on your retirements. You will get the hang of it all, I promise. OYKW and I lurve bein’ retired drains on society!

CupCakes I do enjoy a good microbrewery. Ye Olde Home Towne, of all places, has two, count ‘em two, microbreweries. One is located in the part of town I grew up in, which is now considered the up and comin’ place to live. When I lived there it was straight up lower middle class. Now the typical house there is goin’ for around 150-200k. Unbelievable to me!
VanGo is the paint dried yet? The suspense of it all is killin’ me!

Oopsie enjoy the concert, friends, and public singin’. My public singin’ is done in church where I at least probably don’t sound any worse than anyone else.

Niner sounds like you are enjoyin’ a fine day.

FlyBoy pace yourself! You’re startin’ to sound like MOOOOOOM.

Sorry for the delay…the paint dried and I put the thing together, well mostly together. I gotta go in tomorrow and finish.

The client is taking it to Germany next week and I want to have it done and fully tested before that. It’s kind of hard to describe, but it’s an insert into a model of a smelter? display for a trade show. Painted clear plastic with moving lights inside that’re supposed to look like molten metal. I dunno, I just build what they ask for. And I hope the dimensions they gave me were accurate.

flyboy Minwax stain and finish? Make sure to get the topcoat for outdoors. I’ve made that mistake in the past.

Does the lost and found box at work have any spare chargers? You know, charge-it-while-you-work?

Wifey’s wedding ring is fixed and polished, went to the hardware store for some polyurethane, went to the supermarket for stuff, went tot he dollar store to get SWMBO’s detergent (and some sardines and herring for me  ), mowed the lawn, and reserved the chainsaw.

I got two cans of Minwax polyurethane spray. I sprayed two coats on the bottom of the table, and I’ll put a third coat on in a few minutes. Then I can turn the table over and give the top a few coats.

I biled some cackleberries. I’m going to make cackleberry salad for sandwiches.

Happy Friday and three day weekend for those that still notice.

Today we had coffee with NF which was nice. I told her about the surplus produce boxes I get and she said I could start bringing her some when we meet up at Tai chi. She doesn’t know how good I am at slipping extra stuff into bags…she will learn, hehehe.

After coffee we drove up through Jerome which was beautiful as usual. The bloom is almost over, but the cactus are starting to flower now and everything is still green and pretty. We drove through Clarkdale and caught all of their roundabouts on the way to the wonderful nursery and then took the roundabout infested highway back to Camp Verde. We think we only missed one roundabout in Yavapai county today :frowning:

I wanted a pyracantha but they didn’t have them yet so I settled for a Vermillionaire® - Large Firecracker Plant - Cuphea hybrid | Proven Winners
which the hummingbirds will love. While we were in line to check out, a fuchsia jumped into our wagon. It should do well on the back porch and I will think of nellie every time I look at it

No, the shop I was making it for closed due to a family emergency and I haven’t been looking for another place due to inertia. Plus, I’m going to Boise for at least a couple of weeks and can’t really start supplying for someone before then.

I’m glad you found a place. I have never had a move that didn’t involve stress and drama, so I understand what you are going through.

Use your usual recipe for tomato sauce, but take the time to remove the seeds and pulp even if you do use a food mill. It makes a difference in cooking time. Once the tomato sauce has cooked down, line a couple of tall sided baking sheets with parchment paper and bake at 325 for 3-4 hours. Check and stir every half hour and when it no longer fills the cookie sheets, combine the paste to one sheet and cook more, still stirring every half hour, until it is shiny and brick colored.

It sounds like a lot of work, but it isn’t really, just a lot of waiting and stirring.

I think you will be pleased with the end result.

Congrats to both of you, retirement is magical.

I sure hope so! I want young people to love my hobby so they will support the shops and designers as well.

Plus, even if they never do another needlepoint project again, they now have the skills and knowledge to choose their own handiwork hobby, whatever it may be.

Who’s a good boy!

I’ll bet Kermit gets triggered by snek pics too!

I was really beginning to worry!

Tomato sauce comes from a can… Guess I need to learn do to it old school.

Home from supper with the kids and grands. Chillage shall now ensue. Tomorrow morning when we drag out of bed, we’ll gather our cleaning gear and the hose for a fun day of scrubbage. Rah. Hope I get a good sleep tonight.

The Junction and Boise. For a Leftie Hippie type you sure do hang out in some far-Right places. You take too many more for the team and you’ll look like a leaky pincushion.

As to me …
My boy’s lunch today went well. Ate at a recently remodeled waterfront place. He had a Thai-style salad with edge-seared tuna and I had a big bowl of steamed clams in a tomato / onion / curry broth. We solved many world and personal problems. Or at least laid down the what, lacking only the means to enforce our wisdom.

A side trip to the CVS, the groc, the hardware store, and the vitamin shop (really), wrapped up the sojourn. Plus a take-out espresso from a beachside gelateria. With only a short time spent observing the local fauna while savoring the coffee.

Simple dinner beckons.

Cheers & happy 3-day weekend to all.

Sat-Mon is my irk week. I just checked and I’ll be leaving for irk about 6:15am on Sat and getting home about 8pm on Sun. Will be spending the night in downtown New Orleans, but will have time only for a brief wander for a quick / casual dinner then bed and get up early and do it again. So close and yet …

My co-worker is brand new to the airline. No clue what his background is. This’ll be fun.
