(Old) A Head For The Hills MMP

Thank you for trying. And Happy Birthday on your actual birthday

Thank you for trying. I think sneks are pretty neat, but I also understand phobias and don’t want to accidently trigger one of our beloved Mumpers.

You are very right. My friend didn’t frantically call me because he thought I had empty cupboards, he called because he knew that I would process or share everything they could stuff in my car. He was right. My kitchen is clear and the dishwasher is chugging.

Hubs wasn’t really interested in having a girl day at the needlework store, so he stayed home and monitored the oven. That let me put the tomato paste in before I left. Store bought tomato paste has nothing on the stuff I make “she says modestly”.

I picked up the young ladies who were ready on time. Their mom was very impressed with that and also with the part that they had gotten spiffied up for their outing. They loved seeing all the patterns and finished projects and spent their time picking out the piece they wanted.

I was happily surprised that they didn’t want painted canvas. Painted canvas is really expensive, but just the canvas alone is a piece of hand made art. I fully expected them to want that, but they both picked blank canvas patterns. That saved a couple hundred dollars right there.

The older girl chose a sparkly sugar skull which called for really finicky glittery ribbon and the nice lady helping us choose our threads very tactfully suggested different one ply stuff that was just as sparkly but much easier to work with. There is a very good reason it is my favorite needlework shop in the world.

The younger one choose a horse and then picked her own colors while the nice volunteer lady translated her desires into easy to work pearls and single ply glittery stuff.

We then sat down at the work table and sorted threads and found our centers.

If anyone thinks we are being disrespectful at the Celebration because we will be sitting in the back stitching, I will not so nicely invite them to go fuck themselves. And then we will go back to our stitching.

I didn’t get thread for myself, but I did get a really attractive patchwork cat pattern that I want to change from blues to peach, cream and rose, but didn’t want to take the time to do it today.

That sucks, were you able to get in the door? Back when I was working, I also smoked and all of us smokers would hang out together as close as we could get to the door.

We could tell just by body language when someone walking to the door had forgotten their ID and fob, then had to slog all the way back to their car and get it. Pointing and laughing didn’t happen cause we had all been there, offers to watch coffee and lunch boxes happened instead.

Yes, there is the 3-mile walk. And orking. And projects. No time to sleep!

That’s why I don’t sleep much(2 Twinkies and a Jolt cola as a high school after school snack still helps 30 years later)

Done.

You are awesome, thank you so much!

You are ever welcome! Always happy to help the Mumpers.

Wow, good news in my world!!!

Today I got my second set of patterns for the second part of the hearts piece. Hurray!!! I printed a copy to send to Mom (because her printer broke and she doesn’t use it enough to bother to get another one and she has me to print and mail the important stuff anyhow.) and sorted threads.

Every time I do a mystery piece, I always stitchstitchstitch until I am done with that month’s lesson in a week and then I spend the next 3 weeks whining about having to wait.

I was planning on being very strict with myself with this month’s class so I could stretch it out for the whole month because I am old enough to have some discipline about this sort of thing by now.

Happily, hubs just announced that the D4 early access will start June 2nd. I paid for early access because I love the game and also because I want to get the names I want. Imma be Lavinia Whateley, Sonia Green, Steve and derF.

What this means is that I can stitchstitchstitch my heart out to be finished in time to enjoy the perks of pre-ordering the game.

Life is good.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot was having a ADHD moment earlier, and trying to play with 6 diffeent toys. And he just jumped up on my desk, stomped my mouse, and now my taskbar on on the side of the screen.

Yay!

did you quit making cheese ?

what did sah son think of that one ?

To update on the moving … we finally found a place but it wasn’t without drama … It’s a place that no one really wants to live but it took so long that we now have a week to move 30+ years of my aunt’s stuff .what makes it worse is we didn’t get it right away the owners chose someone else Monday so I’ve spent time and money doing other applications including bone that Ive reported as a scam to various real estate sites

I’ll explain it al tomorrow probably cause there’s a story behind it all as usual…

Morning, mumpers! It’s 14c/57f with a predicted high of 19c/67f and partly cloudy. That explains why it’s N.O.S and bright out there. Weather app says “Can you wear shorts today? Do whatever the fuck you want, I don’t fucking care.” That’s a proper Friday feeling, isn’t it?

sari cute puppers! I didn’t realise there would be two of them

shades sounds like you have quite a story to tell there…

I have read much but retained little - it’s Friday, my brain is mushy and I am tired. It’s not been a great week for sleep, so I am looking forward to the last of the May bank holidays and three days off work. I’m also having a bonus work from home day next week as there’s a rail strike on Wednesday, which means disrupted travel on Thursday as trains and crew will all be in the wrong places…and the promise of one rail union striking on Friday which means a reduced timetable. No idea what that means in reality, the rail app I use just says “check back later”. So I will.

For now, it’s time for more tea.

no offense if I had to deal with some of the things you do id be drinking tea-flavored scotch … maybe some 35 yr old Macallan

I sometimes go to meetings with my tea in a closed thermal cup…I have been known to tell people it’s definitely tea and not neat vodka

How do you make it? I ask, hoping my 'mater plants produce more than I, MIL, and Daughter can use this summer…

Someone tell me why it was 47-stooopit-degrees on a late May morning here??? Certainly not because of fictional climate change… I think we’ll see low-70s today and tomorrow. Rain is forecast for Sun and Mon - I kinda hope so. I’ll be ready for a break from our outdoor labors. But enough weather…

I’ll be heading to MIL’s around 8 to set up her two smart plugs. Then off to my 9:30 Dr appt, which is maybe 5 minutes from MIL’s. After that, it’ll be off to the boat yard to start scrubbing the exterior of the cabin and flybridge ahead of polishing and painting and dealing with more teak. Those things will be done over upcoming weeks. With luck, we’ll get the scrubbing done today.

Then around 4:30 or so, we’re meeting Daughter, SIL, and their spawn for dinner. So a full day ahead. And somewhere in there, I need to get all the shirts out of the dryer because I forgot about them yesterday. Dammit. But they’re pretty much all t-shirts, so not that big a deal.

But for the moment, I get some quiet computer time. Happy Firday!!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and mostly N.O.S. with a predicted high of 77 and mostly cloudy and windy. Not exactly May weather in these parts. OYKW has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for Olive Garden, thus we shall do N.O.L. there as the main need to feed of the day, after I deal with candle duty over to the church house. After that it will be back to da cave for sloth and general overall uselessness the rest of the day.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. What I go through to deal with my public!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Today is my husband’s last official day of working, as he is retiring. All of his computers, screens, etc. are here at home because he has been working from home for three years. So they’re all packed up in the car and we’ll drive them to one of the company’s offices today. Without naming the company, I’ll say it’s just about the biggest company in the world, an enviable place to work, and it has been very good to him and has saved us financially.

It has been an emotional week and I hope today won’t be too dramatic. He had a meltdown day on Wednesday and I don’t want a repeat of that. I’ll encourage a road trip after we drop off the equipment to settle him down.

I’m two weeks into retirement and I’ve been busy every day. I’ve been figuring out Medigap and Part D, stocking up on my prescriptions when possible so as to avoid any gaps due to switching to the new insurance, closing out little-used bank accounts, getting a library card, etc. Now I’m going to figure out how to roll over funds from my 401(k) into Schwab and after that, how to start up Schwab’s “Intelligent Income” function so we can start getting paid.

I’m busier now than when I was working.

ETA: oh, yeah, I went through my jewelry box and fished out all the old earrings and necklaces I haven’t worn in years, and took them all down to a jewelry store that bought gold. I saw that gold was at an all-time high a few days ago, so I cashed in the useless stuff and got a bit of cash. Score!

Welcome lucky and Mr. lucky to the wonderful world of retirement. It does take some adjustment, but swampy and I can help with lessons on learning to sloth properly if you need them. And nice move on the old jewelry.

FCM, sounds like a busy day. Hope the Doc has only good news.

shady, at least the move got done, albeit at the last minute. Hope it all works out for you.

Boo fae, we don’t have to deal with train strikes in N. Ali-bama—heck, we have no trains within 100 miles of us. But i do know England is much more connected/dependent on the rails and hope you can work it out. What’s with all the strikes?

JtC, I see you’re indoctrinating some new stichers there…

Cat Glove, nice to be indispensable at work. Glad daughter helped out, hopefully Hubs will get the help he needs.

According to the police report, it was " a possible felony domestic violence case that led police on a car pursuit through ******* city limits. The suspect was eventually apprehended. No reported injuries."

OK, another warm day, 68F heading to 84F with a 1-in-3 chance of rain. Swimming and Sauna planned and also need to do some banking and probably a couple loads of laundry during the day, so that should keep me occupied. All y’all have a good Firday.

I am busily at the shop…waiting for paint to dry. Such excitement.

I’m glad that your daughter got you pointed in the right direction for Hubs’ pain treatment cat glove.

Congrats on retirement to you and MrBrown teela!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of towels / sheets in the dryer and clothes in the wash. I’ll begin KP and houseirk shortly.

Nelson had a fairly good night and was stahvink! this morning. I gave him a monkey dish of warmed chicken and rice with his antibiotic mixed in (they’re capsules, so easy to pull apart and mix), then two scrambled eggs. He’s also begun to take soft treats if they’re broken into small enough bites. I think he’ll be able to return to his regular kibble by the end of two weeks. I’ll keep an eye on his intake and body weight though. Wouldn’t want my boy to get too skinny.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Just finished with the doc. I’m good. FCD decided he wants to work in his shop today so I will take trash and do other chores. No scrubbing today.

Taking a vacation day. I thought I’d spray the table with water seal, have a walk, and try to catch up on The Walking Dead. One of Wifey, RN’s patients noticed a prong on her wedding ring looked ‘different’. I looked at it last night, and there’s a small gap between the gold and the diamond, so I offered to take to the the jeweller. And the list is growing…

  • Waterproof the table (and of course, put all of the tools away)
  • Take the ring to the jeweller
  • Mow the lawns
  • Reserve a chainsaw for tomorrow
  • Buy laundry detergent
