(Old) A Head For The Hills MMP

[[[{pullin}}}}

I wonder if he’s related to John Coleman, who used to do the TV weather on Chicago’s WLS. He’s the one who invented “thorm” as an abbreviated form of “thunderstorm”.

“Pax”, as in NAS Pax River (Naval Air Station Patuxent River).

How does that work?

Haven’t watched TV in years, so I’ve no idea what the local forecasters are like. Occasionally when I’m in the car I’ll hear Mike Maino on WCRI; he reports the weather in the same calm voice as he does the news – I’ve never heard him get excited about either. I get the online weather forecasts from the NWS (weather.gov), which I found to usually be more accurate than AccuWeather and the Weather Channel.

Was awakened at 0915 by Nandi and Lily chasing each other from one end of the room to the other, jumping onto the bed (and landing on me) at that end. It’s amazing how much noise two cats can make running on carpet. The thunder of tiny paws, indeed…

Angel has had her morning glop, and the other cats (including Fluff) have all been fed. Other than loading the dishwasher, taking a walk, and possibly a trip to the store, I have no plans for the day.

Morning, all. Can school just be over for the year already? In addition to the trauma of the last few weeks, we just folded in a math teacher on our campus, a former Teacher of the Year, getting arrested Friday for having sex with one of her students. Needless to say, the news spread via social media like wildfire. Now we are getting warnings that there are photos going around as well, which the kids don’t realize are big-time illegal since they involve a minor. Toss in a few fights, some general stress due to upcoming Finals, Powder Puff, Prom and all the rest and this place is a bomb waiting to go off. An AP was just in my room advising me of a situation between three of my boys. We think we have a solution that will last 8 days, which is all we need. Come on, people! We are almost there. Chill and let it go. You’ll never have to see any of these people again after Graduation.

At least the weather is dropping back into the 70s for the next week or so. Small blessings.

Hang in there, troops! It’s almost Friday!!

Isn’t it?

Good morning all and welcome to a new week!

This is going to be another busy week, though today got a little easier since storytime was canceled. Like GodBod, CtE has finals this week. The district here has high schoolers only have 1/2 days for midterms and finals. With all their depression and anxiety, especially during finals, I’m driving them in the mornings. And today, I’m picking them up today so we can go see their old librarian at BtY’s middle school.

I’m hopefully going to get some computer work done this afternoon, maybe some reading in the evening while Hubby is at our local game store playing Magic. I’m not going to even start talking about the next few days because I don’t want to make anyone tired.

{{{pullin}}} I hope they can figure out something for your eye.

silenus, it’s is almost over. We’re in finals week. But reading about what’s going on at your school, I’m just flabbergasted. I hope you, the rest of admin and staff, and most especially the kids, make it through all these issues without too much trauma.

I don’t watch any local television so I’m not sure what our local weather kids do. But I love to read what the NWS in our area writes . They crack me up and I trust them so much more than TV weather critters.

I should grab some fud, stop in the room of resting and then go get CtE from school. I hope everyone has an awesome day!

Ziva has been that way since the day we got her. Taz used to tidy up after her, but since he’s gone, her poops sit atop the litter. But since the litter box is in the basement stairwell, at least it doesn’t wake us. Sucks to be you, huh?

puh-TUX-int - also the name of the Naval Air Station in this county.

Comedian!!!

Home! Cleaning the apartment took about 2 hours, the worst part being the oven, and that only because of bending over to do it. The fridge was somewhat gross, but since it was empty, it was a quick clean. It looks like someone spilled a coke and didn’t clean it up. Anyway, tomorrow, FCD will turn in the keys and do the walk-thru and we should be done with that place. Huzzah!!

I didn’t go to MIL’s to do the smart plugs because she and BIL were out erranding. So I’m going to futz in the yard for a bit - there are things that need hacking back, including the wisteria that’s trying to envelope the truck.

The boat is going back in the water today. Tomorrow, they should do the engine and generator servicing and somewhere along there, we’ll get back to our slip - at long last. Which reminds me - I need to get to the credit union and move some money so we can pay for all this. Dammit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Onward!!

Coming from a Navy family, and growing up around aviation, I say ‘Pax’.

Former Army Helicopter Pilot Wifey, frequently mentions the pronunciation of Norfolk when watching NCIS. From my Navy upbringing, ‘NOR-fuk’ sounds perfectly normal to me. She thinks the ‘L’ should be pronounced.

I’ve never heard it referred to as “NAS Patuxent River”.

I don’t pronounce the R or the L.

Reasonable Monday heave. I put out more posters up where Darci might be. Unless it was the local coyote. Our weather beings aren’t into doom and gloom, but The Raleigh Weather Dome keeps us safe from a lot of the extreme stuff.

It worked so well the first time. But I hope they can fix it.

Spot covers his, but the boy can still blow up a litter box like nobody’s business.

As Noah said “Let it rain for forty days and forty nights and wait for the sewers to back up”

They’ll say that on the news around here occasionally, and it’s often written that way.

Overgrown foliage has been hacked back. I think I’ve earned some chillage.

Happy Moonday!

It was 51 degrees at the park this morning.
I made it into the park today.
Echo was back to normal, not so clingy and she went onto the small side with Lucy dad for a while.

I skipped the pill that can cause leg cramps last night and had my first leg cramp free night in weeks.
My leg is still a little sore.
It may be a coincidence though.

Yes, Shoe, I am using Misiu as the Polish word for teddy bear.
Still not sure if that will be his name. I pet sat for a guy who had a dog named Misiu and he told me what the name meant.

I’m not good at explaining how words are pronounced pah-tux-ent.
FCM did it better

I don’t watch the weather, as I don’t have TV.
I’d rather read it anyway, it’s faster.
And I don’t get annoyed by TV personalities.

Sorry about your eye, Yankers, but I’d give it more time.

I really like my recliner.
It’s made for a short person.
My son doesn’t like it because his legs hang off the footrest.
I don’t have trouble pushing it back or bringing it upright again.

Today we are going to finish rearranging the furniture.
Some of it will have to go upstairs, but I can use a chair in my bedroom anyway.

Yeah, it’s not bad. I kinda enjoy actually having my hands on things; it’s been a while since I’ve had a job like that. And I like the folks I’m working with so far.

Heading home Saturday afternoon. We work 9 or 10 hours M-F and 5 on Saturdays, so I’ll be heading to the airport right after that short shift. I wouldn’t want to work hours like this all the time, but it’s nice to cram as much paid time as we can into the trip. I might be asked to come back for another week after a week off.

Break’s over - back to irk!

Afternoon (well, it’s within 5 minutes of noon here as I type this) all. Shopping has been done and sammich acquired and eaten, so the morning chores are done. Will head off to the gym in about an hour or so and then am meeting the girls who couldn’t make the game Saturday to give them their shot at my beard. At least I’ll have a good excuse for showering… 77F outside heading for 80F, so a pretty comfortable day here in N. Ali-bama.

Sari, I thought Musiu might be Japanese or Chinese, but a Polish teddy bear sounds nice.

FCM, rest is a good plan after doing the cleanout. Hope the boat doesn’t sink…

Real Fish, this is the last week of school here too, kids get out on Thorsday but teachers have to work Friday because rules…

Quietly, good grief, what a way to end the school year. I went to a High School with 2,700 kids at the time (one of the largest in Ohio in the 1970’s) and I am sure there were incidents and stuff happening, but I was blissfully unaware of it. Do remember a teacher dying due to a propane company explosion and May 4th, 1970 happened about 10 miles away, but as for teachers and students shacking up… Hope the solution keeps the peace for 8 more days.

OK, bought the NY Times at Kroger during Moanday shopping, so guess I ought to read it before putting on the swimming trunks and heading out for my backstroking exercise. Take care all.

Yeah, that’s the other half of things: going to pee and night and having to walk across litter in bare feet. The other bathroom is just not big enough to move the box into, or I’d do it.

Howdy Y’all! We are indeed havin’ big rains today, includin’ a humongous tstorm that put me to sleep for almost two hours. Now that was a nap! Before it all started, we went and got shorn, then went to Pearly’s, a local breakfast and N.O.L. place for the main feed of the day. Got back to da cave just before a big rain started. Now another one has started up, but just before that, I hauled my and my neighbor’s biiiiiig trash cans back up from the road. Now it’s back to chill time.

Pulley yikes! Hope the bad eye is all better soonest. This needs to be on their dime no matter what they say about it bein’ your fault while you were under the laser and out of it all.

Quietly hope everyone remains calm at the skool and lets the next eight days pass smoothly. I read about that teacher. Some folks just want to mess up their lives.

GodBod sounds like a good plan in motion to register for kolledge classes. Hope exams go well for ya.

Real Fish hope skool stuff goes well for the kidlets. It’s the last week of skool here as well. A couple of local skool systems are already out.

Wheelie glad the gig seems to be to your likin’.

Taters good luck in your irk travels and enjoy seein’ your sis.

sari if the recliner fits lounge in it I say. I like the name for the new doggie.

So far, so good…

Back from the credit union, and I found out that they changed the rules for IRA certificates. If you make any withdrawals before the maturity date, you’re charged a penalty. But the manager waived the penalty, which is nice. However, the certificate doesn’t mature till 2027. Hope we don’t need any of it before then.

And time for more chillage, methinks.

Everybody has read about that teacher. The freaking London Daily Mail had a news item about it! It’s a great school. We regularly have players drafted into MLB. Girl’s Softball were National Champions. Students get full rides to Harvard. Lots of good stuff.

“But you fuck one goat…”

sigh

Hey! Some of us live under a rock, and we LIKE it that way.

I’m just glad they’ve got you there, Quietly. In a year full of profoundly screwed-up shit, it’s the presence of plainly conscientious, compassionate teachers like you that’ll make the difference.

Hello, all!

I don’t remember the last time I watched the local news/weather, so I have no feel for if the forecasters here tend to overreact. But DC-area weather is weird; I’d imagine it’s difficult for them to get worked up about much.

The last two weeks were juuust crazy enough to keep me out of the MMP: proposal deadlines, two all-day work offsites, big volunteer-related drama, etc. But by the end of last week I was finally feeling caught up and relatively normal again, and on Saturday I went to a big outdoor fine arts festival with my BFFs (a married couple) and had a really great day. The weather was perfect. I bought earrings and a necklace from two different vendors, plus an original from a guy who does amazing hand-drawn miniatures. The festival took place in a big town center – many of the streets were blocked off for the vendors – and the three of us had a yummy lunch at the Uncle Julio’s there, then the husband BFF wandered back to the festival while the wife BFF and I did a little clothes shopping. I got a nice linen top, and some dress/work pants (finally; it was my first time buying pants other than jeans or leggings since my weight loss surgery). Then we parted ways, and I spent the rest of Saturday on my couch nursing my sore feet/back! LOL! I really need to exercise more!

Yesterday I took the cover off my outdoor table and two chairs, cleaned them, and had lunch on my patio for the first time this season while Bailey got to explore the far reaches of the back yard for the first time in months. Normally I don’t let her off-leash out there, because she’s crap at coming when called – totally my fault  – and the yard is too big for me to chase her. I typically stand on my patio with her on a 26’ retractable leash, and as I walk back and forth she’s able to access about half of the yard. Anyway, I ate lunch out there again today: I’d forgotten how nice it is to take that little break during my workday. I plan to eat lunch outside whenever the weather permits.

A week ago yesterday I completed another LEGO set:

My mom gave me this one 10-15 years ago: even though it survived a few moves I managed to completely forget about it until the other week! I was searching for an extra laptop power cord, and noticed the side of the box in a plastic container. (I’m a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and have been to Fallingwater and the Pope-Leighey house.) I’m still somewhat floored that I even had this, and that I found it now – this year, when suddenly I’ve gotten into building these sets. This made #3, and a total of 2738 pieces. (Yesterday I started #4, which will nearly double that total. Eventually. It’s gonna take a while.)

The rest of this week should be relatively calm/straightforward, despite having volunteer-related meetings tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings (I’m hoping for minimal involvement in all three :crossed_fingers:). I’m ridiculously happy that Monday is a holiday: my company doesn’t give us Presidents Day, so the MLK Day-Memorial Day stretch feels interminable! I have no plans on Saturday or Monday – and am happy about that – but on Sunday I’m going with friends to a new super-local brunch jazz jam featuring three musicians I’ve never heard of. I’m looking forward to seeing my friends, having brunch, and checking the guys out. I’ll bring some sheet music in case the jam is vocalist-friendly (not all are), but I won’t really mind if I don’t get a chance to sing.

Ugh! I join the others (and you) in hoping that your eye gets its act together sooner rather than later.

Good luck! :crossed_fingers:

The NAS is Pax River; the river is the Patuxent.

Yaaaaaay.

(sorry you are/your school is having to deal with that!!)

There are times that I would like to Head For The Hills, more and more lately, but not because of the weather. To tell you the truth southeastern Michigan has some of the best overall weather/ nature events; no hurricanes, no earthquakes, no tornados, (yes outside of the Wayne/Oakland/Macomb tri-county area there have been infrequent tornados; one that happened shortly after I was born and so my christening had to be moved from the farm (several buildings were blown over) where it was going to be held to the City (metro Detroit) but I’m not including anything outside the tri-county area as SE Mich), rarely gets overly hot or overly cold, snow is generally moderate, rarely get such bad rain that there is flooding.

Best laid plans generally go awry. Instead of being able to prep the garden yesterday I ended up at the ER for 5-1/2 hrs then another 3/4 hr at CVS to get the 'scrips. Ugh. So instead of the planned dinner, I dashed to Wendy’s (1 mile from hospital) to get a spicy chicken sandwich with fries for Hubs and a Dave’s single for self; I ended up with mild case of heartburn.

Thanks to JtC and Sari for the well wishes and prayers!!!

As far as tangles in hair, I have a wide tooth comb that I gently use starting close to end, then working way slowly up the strands. Or wash hair and use a lot of conditioner; generally tangles come out much easier.

Round and round the mulberry bush ,
The monkey chased the weasel .
The monkey stopped to pull up his socks.
Pop goes the weasel.

I’ve never eaten a mulberry but sounds like something I’d like to try.
Something else that piqued my interest is I would have loved to have been in attendance when the lock was broken off the shed. Sounds like a fun adventure; kinda like something Nancy Drew would have done

Haven’t read any of the replies in this thread; only Swampy’s post so hopefully I’ll have time to read them later. Please stay safe and HEALTHY everyone!
