Boat move. Glad I wasn’t there because no matter how many times I watch our boats moved via travelift, I stand and fret.
Our pellet stove cleaning had to be rescheduled from Firday because the tech was hospitalized. So I’ll be boat scrubbing starting after my Dr appt. Woohoo!
Cat_Glove was it hubs, you, or someone else that needed the ER. Nosy Enquirin’ Mumpers want to know. Whoever it was, hope they are feelin’ better now.
Been a rainy afternoon off and on, so good to be inside and dry. We day drank out on the back porch so we could watch it rain. Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and Coke Zero makes a good sit on the porch and watch the rain drink. I tell y’all this for any future day drinkin’ that might come about for anyone.
Sorry, I should have been more clear: I didn’t mean the formal name of the place, I meant how it gets referred to. The air station gets called “Pax River,” but the river never gets called “Pax” (which is the implication I saw in a few posts).
Later Afternoon all. Swimming and sauna are complete, weight is at 255.2 lbs so still heading in the right direction. Out in a couple of hours to meet with the soccer players who didn’t have a chance to color my beard Saturday, hope the weather holds. Dinner is TBD, see what I feel like after the beard decoration (and I promise, will get pictures up soon on Facebook). Tempted to walk into McDonalds with the technicolor beard and see what the reaction is…
FCM, the boat looks good and I like the contraption they use, I remember some You tube vids of boats being lowered by cranes that did not end well.
I always heard the third line as “The monkey thought t’was all in fun” Imagine there are many interpretations of that little ditty. And what’s this about being in the ER for 5 hours?!?! What happened?
Oopsie, Glad the craziness has subsided so you can come here and join our craziness. And sounds like you had a great weekend to make up for the previous time.
OK, I’ll let it go… this time… And I have never heard anyone call the river Pax either. When I’m in a sillier mood, I may call it the Pax-a-tux-ent because I’m all whimsical like that.
It is pretty from a distance, but from on deck, it’s dirty dirty dirty! So lots of scrubbage ahead!
That particular travelift is remote control - the operator wears the control box at his waist and he had at least 2 guys walking to make sure he doesn’t hit any other boats. Some of the boats there are tucked in tight little corners - the operator is quite impressive.
The day is winding down - I’m more tired than I thought from this morning’s cleaning adventure. I must be getting old…
@Pullin. Scary shit to be sure. Here’s something that may make you feel a bit better about the worst-case scenario, which you are a long way short of being committed to now.
My father was about 50 when he developed a retinal cancer in one eye. This was 40 years ago now. The radiation treatments they used were expected to destroy most of the vision in his eye. Since the only other treatment alternative was cut the cancerous eye out & install a glass one, he went with the radiation. Once things settled down he could tell a sunny day outdoors from daytime indoors from night, but that general sense of the overall level of illumination was all he could see with that eye. The other was unaffected.
After the requisite couple-month recovery period he went back to his old job: flying 747s. Which he continued doing for nearly a decade. His daily life as a one-eyed person had some mild annoyances, but it was really very little of an imposition.
He said he was far more concerned about the loss of redundancy the one-sided blindness represented and hence the high importance of being super-careful with his good eye, than he was about any daily issues living or working as a one-eyed person. For that reason he chose to give up motorcycle riding. Not for problems seeing or maneuvering. Just that he was afraid of dust or debris getting into his good eye exposed to all that wind. He also stopped taking Tae Kwon Do for fear of taking a kick in the good eye. Otherwise it was business as usual.
Beyond “good luck!!!11!!11!1!!!” I can’t say anything useful about what your own future recovery holds. But I can say that for Dad the very worst case proved much scarier in the anticipation than it turned out in the result.
I am so sorry this happened to you! Fear of something like this happening is why my Mom refused to get her cataracts removed. I only had one eye done and it turned out ok. Not sure that I will ever consent to having the other eye done. Hopefully it will get better with time or they can figure out how to correct. I think it was terrible for them to blame you; if you’re under anesthesia, it seems to me it’s on the medical professionals to be sure that everything goes properly.
Yeah, they know they blanked up and if it doesn’t get fixed, they’ll be on the hook for beaucoup $$$.
SIL’s brother has only had one eye with eyesight his entire life. He’s a golf pro at a country club; almost qualified for the PGA Championship last year; he was in the playoff for the final spot and unfortunately lost by a stroke.
Our weatherman who after WWII became an actor/comedian then weatherman was Sonny Elliot. Yes, his jokes were corny but he was beloved.
Walked to work this morning. When I got home, Hubs’ car was gone. So, he was at least feeling well enough to drive himself to the diner for breakfast. It was him that needed to go to the ER yesterday from baaaaaaad delayed reaction to the anesthesia used during the bone marrow biopsy on Firday. One good thing is that his weight hasn’t declined anymore, still holding at what it was about 3 weeks ago. I had hoped it would have gone up a bit as I’ve been attempting to do as the Drs asked and make sure he eats more often and food with more calories; whole milk, ice cream, etc.
I need to go to the Fitness Center; haven’t been since Thursday; but I foresee procrastination, likely won’t go until tomorrow; my knee is not happy about that. I really need to look into buying a NuStep.
As a Mom, I’d love one of those fruit bouquets
Take 2 on the ham, sweet taters, baked beans and coleslaw dinner. Sweet tater is in oven.
Very sharp-looking; great job FCM & FCD.
Oopsie Sounds like a fun time at the fine arts festival.
Our General Business teacher married on of the cheerleaders a couple of weeks after she graduated. This was in 1972, and I am sure this kind of thing went on all over
Lots to catch up here since 5am on Sunday. Y’all are a chatty bunch.
From the prior thread:
Hippy that is a great bracelet now and a sweet story from way back when. Had a similar bracelet myself back in the day though never had a girl who would want it. Sigh. A wasted youth if ever there was one.
I now have a simple gold bracelet about like this one:
The difference is mine was cheaper, came from a tourist shop I found on a layover in Cancun, and has a slogan engraved on it in plain block capitals that are filled with black enamel to stand out:
DO EPIC SHIT
On a subsequent stay at the same hotel I found a matching one for Her Ladyship
ENJOY THE RIDE
Jane, of course there was nothing interesting in the shed. If there had been, it would have been an evil portal to Hell filled with demons, you’d have been sucked in, and we’d never have heard from you again. Glad to here that Tweedledumber is fast approaching his his last shift.
Sari, hope you can get that leg working right again. Puppies underfoot and a gimpy adult human → crippled human and injured puppy. Not a good combo. Two puppies would be serious cuteness overload, but also serious everything else overload. Best of luck reaching the right decision; whichever one that is.
FCM that is a fine looking boat on top of the water. Which is so much better than when the water’s on top of them.
As a former boater myself I enjoy watching several channels of YouTube dedicated to boating fails. Near here we have some notoriously dangerous inlets/outlets where hijinks ensue at every turn of the tide. Some of which vids are bad boaters boating badly (usually drunk, clueless, or both). But many are yard crane accidents, yard cribbing failures, etc. Whole lotta ways for stuff to go impressively expensively wrong. Best not to watch those if you can avoid it. There’s something inherently funny about a biggish boat laying on its side in a parking lot.
As long as it’s not yours.
Flyboy, congrats on SWMBO returning safely & eagerly. And to fine dining too. Shame the stain doesn’t dry faster. Soon enough it’ll be done and she’ll be overjoyed.
Good luck to the several school-folks as the academic year winds down to a crazy close.
Costa Rica is awesome. Can recommend. Better for a hiker or outdoorsperson than somebody seeking an inclusive beach resort or city fine dining & museums.
I really should learn to never tempt fate by saying things like I did. About which more below.
Well, that’s all for finishing last week’s MMP. On to this week’s …
Will and Ariel Durant, the historians, married when she was 15 and he was 26, a former teacher of hers. They were married for almost seventy years, and died within two weeks of each other.
Well, my efforts to keep my responses separate by threads were a total bust. Oh well.
Cheers all.
Sunday at irk was highly memorable and not in a good way. Nothing dangerous or requiring any unusual skill or coolitude. Just one ignorant crisis after another. They made me earn my crust that’s for sure. When the dust settled, it took two flights, two airplanes, two copilots, one extra airport, and our emergency rations kits spread over 12 hours to drag 180 poor unlucky souls on what should have been a 4-hour one-hop sojourn in relatively well-fed comfort on a bright sunny day. If there was any way for more sand to get in the gears or for two things to fit together in the worst possible way, we found it.
By the time we got to the hotel it was time to simply crawl in bed; no food or relaxation for us. Just sleep.
Today Monday was nearly flawless although we had to start out 2 hours later than originally planned just get enough sleep. Got home in time to catch up on the MMP and now considering my / our dinner options.
To all of Nelson’s admirers, the photo was made on his birthday, after we had been to Bark in the 'Boro and before we hit Panera up for a pup cup.
JtC, if I had a cat, I might enter the pretty kitteh contest amongst Mumpers.
I’m sorry your hubby ended his day not feeling well cat glove.
Yikes on the eye yank! I hope that time does it some good.
It sounds like your school has had a rough end of year silenus. You’ll survive eight more days. Isn’t this your last year of teaching?
I generally tune into my local ABC affiliate for local news and weather when I get home from irk. The chief meteoroligist is Danielle Breezy and that’s about as exciting as the weather gets. The biggest reason for such saturation of the weather is that it’s something folks still tend to tune into network stations for.
Howdy Y’all! There’s a lull in the rain for now. Heavy tstorms are expected through the night and into the mornin’. Makes for great sleepin’ weather for da bear. Inside and dry is definitely the place to be.
Nope. 1 more year, because the District is getting 8.1% COLA next year and teachers are getting all of it. That’s a nice bump in pay to add to my retirement.
pully did you have both eyes cataracted at the same time? Mine were 2 weeks apart. I know I moved a little bit during the second one because I WOKE UP DURING IT.
Saw the ortho doc today. He said the bad news is I have shoulder arthritis and the good news is I don’t need surgery. Yet. I’m gonna do PT for 6 weeks and if that hasn’t lowered my pain from a 6 to a 3, we will do HA gel injections.
I’m 40 miles west of Chicago and in the last decade weather people started forecasting the end of the world if there is a drop of rain or a flake of snow.
Like cat glove we don’t have hurricanes, earthquakes, mud slides, poisonous critters, bears. A tornado once or twice a year on the distant plains. I can live with cold but geez, I hate the heat of summer.
Evening all. Beard painting went as planned, pics from both events are up at the Book of Faces (message me if you need the link). I’ll wash it out tonight and hopefully leave my beard alone for a few months. Did get a second look from the lady at the window at the McDonald, however…
Wet one, hoping that the PT and (possible) injections help.
Swampy, y’all can keep the rain down there, so far it has stayed south of me and that’s OK at least for a few days.
Pilot, so…things didn’t go exactly as planned? Seriously, surprised you didn’t go over the limit for hours (I think pilots have something like that) with fuster-cluck. Murphy must have been working overtime.
OK, need to do some more internettin’ (I’m subscribed to waaay to many You Tube channels) and then do a washout of the beard. All y’all have a good night now.
