(Old) A Head For The Hills MMP

Morning all. Got some rain but it had the decency to show up about 4-5am so didn’t bother my sleep or anything I want to do today, so that’s an early win. Probably need to hit Staples and Home Depot for a couple items, nothing I immediately need but ought to get. Agreed to referee games in Knoxville, TN 9-11 June so will need to find a hotel there, it’s only about a 3 hour drive.

2gig, looked up the incident and all I’m going to say is PT Barnum was right; “there’s one born every minute…” Do grace us with your presence whenever you can.

boo fae, had to look up the Michael Fish reference, that’s one he’ll never live down, I bet.

shoe, yeah, the cost of living on either coast is rather shocking to us Midwesterners (recall I am originally from Ohio). Looked into relocating there in 1997 when my job was moving to Ali-bama, and even then, it was a no-no.

JtC, mildly ghoulish, but I don;t believe in ghosts (knock on wood…).

Sunny OW! on the tooth and root canal. If mouths weren’t so useful for eating, I’d do away with them…

OK, need to break my fast and get the day started…with more internettin’. All y’all have a good 2sday.

MetalMouse - I saw the pick of your colorful adventure in FB - you are a good sport!

I’ve loaded the thrift store donations into my trunk. Tobias and I will head over there when they open. Good times!

Nice idea but then I wouldn’t know where to keep my feet.

What, you mean the undead can’t break into a CVS or Target for some eyeliner & fresh lipstick after gorging on blood, brains, & what have you? Or is that “what had you?”

But yeah. Overall I enjoy the manservice inherent in overly attractive female actors dressed overly nicely / provocatively & better made-up than fits the story context. But once you notice just how unreal it is, it becomes almost too distracting & totally pulls you out of the show.

So far it sounds like most folks had a good Monday evening & Tuesday is off to a good start. Yaay! About now boofae’s silly staff meeting is starting; one hopes she got there without a drenching.

Mornin’s all. It’s about 8:30 here as I’m balconating with my third cup of coffee. Presently 81F/27C on the way to 87F/31C. A few puffies over the sparkling ocean, and mostly solid but not real thick clouds inland with an area of rain about 20 miles away. So far so typical for this time of year.

Our construction project has news. Sometime between when I left on Sunday morning and now, the second tower crane has simply disappeared. I kind of suspect they’d started taking it down on Thu or Fri but I’d not noticed. Anyhow there’s now a portable crane set up over where the tower had been and as best I can tell from the opposite side of the building they’re now taking down the last couple of stories’-worth of crane stump & putting it on trucks to be hauled to the next job.

As awful as my irking Sunday was, today is/was the optimal irk day. My shift started at 4am and I was quite likely to be used as I was close to the head of the priority line. However at 7am several more folks would come on shift ahead of me in priority to go to work. So if I could survive that brief 3 hours as dude-next-to-go, I’d be safe.

Just in case I’d gone to bed early on Monday. Besides, I’s tarred as swampie might say.

I awoke at 7:30 having slept peacefully through my entire de facto workday. That’ll show Sunday! My shift formally runs 14 hours to 6pm, but barring catastrophe somebod(ies) else will absorb all of today’s irkage. But it was close; they’d used both folks on the 2am shift, and a couple of the 7am shift while I was asleep. As the immortal Maxwell Smart ofen said: “Missed me by that much.”

Her Ladyship has arisen and is looking hawt. Sheveling beckons. Perhaps followed by disheveling & resheveling. Hope (and other things) springs eternal. Otherwise expecting a slothful day and craft tacos on Taco Tuesday this evening.

Cheers all !!

G’mornin’ kids. Thunderstormy here today. We’re supposed to have people on campus filming an advertisement… But I know that drone shots of the campus were on the agenda, so maybe they’ll cancel it due to the intermittent storming? That would be ideal, because all the moisture in the hair has made my hair go pthbltbthbtb.

What’s in an airliner’s emergency rations kit? (Emergency rations, duh, but what are those like?)

It varies from airplane type to airplane type and I assume also by company, but mostly it’ll be small bottles of water and Nature Valley granola bars.

They’re mandated by the law that requires us to not hold people hostage on the airplane indefinitely. Which wasn’t our situation on Sunday; folks could leave any time they wanted. We just could not get any ordinary provisions on board in a reasonable timeframe for reasons, so we launched anyhow and fed / watered them with what we had.

My mother has received her fruit arrangement delivery and seems happy with it. (“How did you arrange this?” “Ma, that … that’s what they DO.”)

I’m up way earlier than I want to be, and may trundle on back to bed in a bit.

TweedleDumber and I work together tonight again, but get this: I’m “early out” and he closes.
Why my manager scheduled herself to close with him, I dunno - she set herself up for a frustrating night, but hey, not my problem.

Da Jungle has texted a promise that my stuff is arriving today. I really hope it gets here before I gotta go in; I’d love to have those markers with me today, as I’m likely to be on the fryers & need to write on my bags. We have red Sharpies at work, but c’mon … COLORS :rainbow:

After the stresses of school the last couple of weeks, today is starting off great. It’s the rescheduled Senior Ditch Day. So far I’ve seen 9 of the 51 students I should have had in class so far. Most of those are taking Calculus and have a test today. Everybody else is sleeping in and going to the beach.

Afternoon (well, almost afternoon here) all. Been a fairly busy morning by my standards, made it to Home Depot for hose reels, Wal-Mart for new hoses, and Staples for boxes and new check ledgers…all of which (except the boxes) will last me for years, so just planning ahead. Of course, it started raining as soon as I left the house and the sun came out when I got back. Came home and unloaded the car of all it’s soccer stuff. Just booked 3 nights hotel in Knoxville in June for the soccer tournament, so that may constitute my summer vacation; we’ll have to see about July. Only thing left on the schedule is my gym visit, and that will be a bit later. Maybe nappage is in my future…

Quietly. Senior ditch day was even a thing back in the 1970’s; guess some things never change.

Maybe looking for a final write-up before letting him go?

OK, onward into the day.

That was my thought. Or simply firing him then and there, but not wanting to make a scene in front of the other employees. Some of which may be his allies. Or would at least give him an audience in front of whom to make a dramatic scene.

A silent one-on-one professional knifing is so much easier & calmer than a wild shooting in a crowd.

One can hope. And dream.

I don’t believe in ghost either, but sometimes I suspect they’re trying to get me to believe in them. When I’m home alone and go downstairs to the basement I sometimes hear the pitter-patter of little paws in the living room over my head.
Iy pains me, because we’re gonna move soon and I don’t want my ‘boys’ to be bereft when we’re gone.

Yeah, I’ve often wondered where those viking women get all that eyeliner.

Words to live by.

Wifey says my time is up. Gotta go.

Decent heave, made some hours since senior people are on vacation, and I can do their jobs, too.

Soccer players?
< D&R >

FFS. I hope you eventually made it home.

Me too. The whole eating thing really. It never leads to anything good. :stuck_out_tongue:

:drum:

The endodontist sees me at 3:30, whereupon I expect a root canal. Wheeeee

The family is back today. They fly into SFO and then they’re taking BART home. My kids aren’t thrilled, but they should know how to use public transportation.

So far I’ve handled some paperirk. Next up, more laundry and another load of dishes into the washer. I also need to take the trash and recycling out.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Huzzah!

… well, sorta.

The markers (Amazon brand, not Sharpie, for less $$) are nice, will be taking colors to work today to try them out in vivo on our paper bags, among aerosol fryer grease, etc.

The kitty treats were a complete bust. I was so excited for Monkey, too - I got him freeze-dried minnows, which I thought might make him lose his little kitty mind.

Nope.

“Sniff. Snifffffff … WTF is this?” { kitteh wanders off }

Fine. Stoopit crunchy Temptation treats for you, then.

I did catch the delivery driver as she was pouring herself back into the overcrowded van, and waved and hollered her a big “thank you! I’ve been looking forward to this!” and got the most cheerful “you’re welcome!” wave back in return.

Oh! And also, I saw BATS :bat: last night, circling my roof. I saw which tree he/she/it/they were coming back to upon re-circling, so I’m super hopeful that there’s a wee little bat colony, or at least a mama and some pups, right nearby.

I lurve bats. Must look up for them tonight, upon re-entry after work.

Yeah. As badly as I’d love to point and laugh (lord knows he’s done that to me, and others, for the littlest piddly things) my manager is a better person than I am … and he does have a couple of allies, who I hope will be simply neutered behavior-wise, once he’s gone.

Still. Cupcakes. For everyone. Including his allies, who will snarf down anything free on the break table anyway. Once he’s gone. Which will be - hopefully - oh, so soon.

All y’all will definitely hear about that! Imma dance into the MMP bein’ all like, “Guess what?”

My li’l pal Junior is stupidly picky about treats, too. He also exclusively likes Temptations. The last time I took him to the vet, she tried to entice him with those gooey meaty-gravy-in-a-tube treats - he could not have been less interested. The vet was astonished, she said she’d never met a cat that didn’t like the tube-goo.

Ah, yes. “Squeezy-Crack.” (“Tube-goo.” I like that!)
I, too, am astonished alongside your vet. That stuff is, well, crack. For cats. Stinks like hell to me, but they lurve it. Except for your little furry weirdo, I guess.

I was just looking for something solid to toss, so Monkey could catch/hunt/fetch it.

Ah, hell. I like anchovies, and sardines. Who’s gonna bet me a fiver to eat a dried minnow?

From looting, pillaging, and burning. Same as their menfolk.

I gots no problems with teef 'n such; it all just works.

My complaint is we should not be eatin’ with our talkin’ parts. Or at least if we’re stuck doing that, mealtimes should not be expected to also be conversation times. I can talk, or eat, but not both. Hell, with all the chomping noises in my head I can’t even listen and eat. One thing at a time people.

I always try to thank the drivers when I catch them. They always seem so appreciative. It’s gotta be pretty lonely & thankless work otherwise.

Yaay!

When I lived on the lake in the Midwest I just loved seeing bats about. Which we often did on spring & summer evenings. As my late first wife always said: “Go bats! Eat bugs!” By which she meant mosquitos, of whom we had an ample supply for an entire bat-bridge* of bats.

That won’t take us but one guess. Either that or we’ll think your intermittent BF showed back up in town again. Oh wait, that’s wordy with the BF. I think. Crap! Mumping is hard.

With your history, I know for sure you’ve eaten worse. This year. Min-now! Min-now! MIN-NOW!!!

* See:

I’ve been. It’s totally worth it if you’re anywhere in that quadrant of Texas at the right time of year.

Walking under the bridge mid-day is kinda weird. There’s continuous gentle squeaking noises coming from various hidden spots up inside the bridge, the whole area smells distinctly, but not overpoweringly, of guano, and you know a couple million bats are sleeping just a few feet away.

If they suddenly all turned into vampires, it’d be like being dunked in a giant pool loaded with piranhas. Flying piranhas. Aiheeeee!!!

Once they actually got BART all the way to the airport it’s by far the smart, fast, cheap, easy way to get to/from the airport from darn near anyplace in BART’s catchment area.

How old are these unthrilled kids? I’d have been super-excited to have access to a tool that would let me roam a whole urban area any time after I could walk and before I could drive.

When I’m in the Bay Area nowadays, BART is sure my go-to long-range transportation option, with SF Muni or LyftUber for the last mile if needed.

Ursala Kitteh is not interested in the goo from a tube. She also has no interest in boxes or bags. I sometimes wonder if she is a real cat.

Up early, went to the Fitness Center. Met w/ some co-workers in Admin and explained how to do my work if on occasion I can’t come in. Drove to work. I had done some research on uni shirts and borrowed a sample from another division, manager liked them so I set about getting sizing from the staff. Then walked the sample up to where the shirt owner was working.

Had cream of tomato basil soup w/ a turkey sandwich for lunch. Then a mint chocolate chip Klondike bar. Now pigging out on Nacho Cheese Doritos. Going to head out to spade the back of garage for garden plot (if I can tear myself away from the Doritos).
Hubs said he’d like enchiladas for dinner so need to figure out what Mexican restaurant to hit up.
