(Old) A New Hope in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions. I did not buy M&Ms or Combos. Go Me! The rest of the mostly dreary day was spent in RDOS inactivities. Sup got nuked and et and the kitchen cleanded up.

Sheets get changed weekly here at da cave. That was ingrained in me. OYKW would change ‘em monthly if it were up to him. He is somewhat slovenly like that. It took some work, but I managed to somewhat domesticate him.

The insides remind me of a Butterfinger, peanut buttery. The outside has a crunchy coconut coating. I loved them as a kid but that was 65 years ago. I guess that makes them a boomer candy bar.

My best friend growing up always had a stash of Zagnut and Fifth Avenue bars that he’s use to bribe us to stay out of his hair.

Stuff keeps happening despite our desire to be proper RDOS. I was planning on spending my “twilight years” stitching and watching the forest, not doing errands and talking to lawyers (house purchases, will and fuzzbutt arrangements).

Tara loves gatoraid and was happy to take it off our hands. She was also super interested in our under the sink R/O system, she didn’t know that they were a thing and spends so much money on bottled water. (according to the test reports, tap water here is just fine to drink. It doesn’t taste good, so people don’t drink it)

I went to the gym and did all of the exercises my PT guy wanted and then swam 7 or more laps. I think I might have managed ten laps, but I get bored and lose count.

I’m not sure that Hubs still remembers how to change the sheets. I only made whoopy at his place once, then made him drive an hour to my place for happy fun times until we got serious.

I know that I’m an outlier where clean sheets are concerned, but it is such an easy pleasure. Back when I was working, the sheets got changed every Saturday.

pilot, I do agree with your lady friends that satin feels lovely against the skin, but satin sheets just ticked me off so much because I hated coming home to find all of the bedding on the floor.

I’m glad you got it checked out. Lymph nodes often swell because of an infection in the body, but can also swell for other, more ominous reasons.

And the snowball is picking up speed.

I’m so glad Nelson is feeling better, our fuzzbutts can have strong reactions to all of the fuss and bother that comes with moving.

And here I was all ready to explain how to best use a steam iron from the back side of the fabric and you came up with the lazy way. Thanks for blowing my lazy cred!

Thank you. So many people don’t know/care about the babies in India.

Try drinking it first. That will help it start moving through your system while you are moving. Then drink another glass of water because most old folks don’t drink enough. Water, wine doesn’t count.

And once again, I’m done before I’m done. Off to bed with me, I need to go to the gym early because I have far too much to get done before dinner.

10pm and time for the late-night final. Did get to the gym for a little bit, didn’t push things quite as hard as yesterday, we’ll see what effect it has on my sleeping habits. Also gave me an excuse to have pudding and applesauce cups for a late evening snack, so body and belly are satisfied. Otherwise pretty quite night, it’s down to 72F so the AC will be going off and the windows opened again this evening.

Don’t think I’ve ever had a Zagnut, Snickers and Kit-Kat are my go-to’s with Milky Way and M&M’s reliable substitutes.

JtC, will start the antibiotics tonight (supposed to take one every six hours, not sure I can maintain that schedule).

And that’s for this Hump Day. Catch all y’all tomorrow.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and cloudy. Weather app says “The sun will fucking come out tomorrow. Maybe. But, a lot of fucking good that does you today.” True, there are clouds out there and patches of blue sky but no sign of any sun.

I have never seen ‘im indoors change sheets. Ever. He was living in a rented place in Brussels once and mentioned that he might need to bring some spare sheets from home because he’d been unable to locate any in his room. Turned out the bed base lifted up and had storage under there, which is where the bedsheets were hiding. He never said whether he actually changed them or not.

On the matter of bedding, I change the sheets every couple of weeks but it has to be during the week because the end of the week is when I do all the clothes washing once ‘im indoors is back home and brings his week’s worth of dirties home.

Yesterday was uneventful, had a fairly quiet day at irk, went home and found that the Heritage Centre down the street was having an event of some sort. They’d got a bouncy castle in the car park so that meant they’d got no parking on their small site. This led to all the cars being parked both sides of my street (only one side has legal parking, the other side has double-yellow lines). Turned out to be a right mess, they’d made it so that traffic couldn’t flow properly and one end of the street was always blocked up. Traffic coming in from the top end of the road had to back up to the t-junction in order to let cars come through from the other end (where there are traffic lights). It’s what usually happens when they have something going on there, really annoys the residents because they have nowhere to park near their homes. Anyway, it was really busy when I was due to go out with my friends so I sent a text and suggested meeting them at the t-junction end of the street to avoid the car-nage. Turned out to be a good plan both going and coming back as they dropped me off at the same spot. The Heritage Centre folks finally took their noisy selves off home around 2am.

I had a pleasant evening in the pub with my friends, nothing stronger than blackcurrant and soda for me after a week of too much good German beer! Was home by 11pm to give the cats their treats, and was in bed soon afterwards. I left the front windows closed because I knew all the folks leaving late would be noisy so I stuck my earplugs in too, and had a fairly good sleep.

Day four of no team manager so I’m in charge again!

And… home again! Have read all and retained little except for the secret to doggio’s redneck stirfry. And all of the animal pictures - I’m looking at you, Jolene and Sadie and anyone else I can’t think of right now.

Currently sitting with a beautiful poodle on my lap. She and I are looking forward to another day of training spent together.

On a mostly unrelated topic, I haven’t mentioned lately, but I’ve lost about 72 pounds. There isn’t a full length mirror on the first floor and I don’t always get upstairs to look in the one up there so it was interesting to see myself in the mirror at the hotel room. It seems to me that there is significant amounts of excess skin now. I have to lose 150 pounds total before they’ll fix my knee, but I wonder how that will work out. I’m thinking that I might argue my point when I get down 100lbs and see what happens. The worse they could do is say no. Rather, I understand that at some point I made need to have excess skin removed. I don’t know which would happen first, knee replacement or skin removal.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 86 and partly sunny. I shall accomplish mowage this mornin’. The rest of the day will be reserved for RDOS inactivities. Sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit just cause.

Sticky_Buns conga rats on the weight loss!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I need to do my Senior Day shopping at Teeter today. It’s supposed to rain more this afternoon, so that would be a good time to rewire the entertainment center, since the Google Fiber is by the front door, and I need to drop off the Spectrum modem. It’s currently 67 degree Ferret Height(19.4 Centipedes) and starting to rain.

Did you stop and play in the bouncy castle, though?

Have Spot pic, too.

Ralphie in his favorite napping spot:

As to candy of choice, as a kid, mine was always Snickers or Baby Ruth. Remember when for a quarter you could get a bar that was bigger than the ones they sell today for $2?? The local dime store had a decent size bar for 5¢, but I always wished I could afford the big one. Then again, they had a big penny candy display, and that same quarter could buy you enough sugary treats to get reasonably sick to your stomach!! Good times!!

FCD wants to go to Lowes today for some lumber. He’s designed a stand to hold a chain fall for the guys who will be installing the fuel tanks. The tanks are about 150# each (there are 4 of them) and pretty large. The access to where they need to go is limited by the engine below and the main salon deck above. Since we’ll be paying by the hour to get the tanks installed, anything we can do to make it quicker, simpler, and safer is a win for our bank account. So that’s the plan for today.

I had a pretty good sleep once I finally did fall asleep - before midnight - and I slept till nearly 7. Definitely a win.

It had been a while since I’d logged into Nextdoor dot com and when I tried today, I had to get a verification code. For Nextdoor??? Really?? Are they afraid someone might hijack my account and post as me? And say something nasty about, I dunno, local pressure washing companies? Weird.

Off to another topic - you may recall I mentioned a boat at our marina docked across from us that’s for sale. If you’re at all interested, here’s the listing. Nice little $600K toy. And if you look behind the boat and behind the handrail on the ramp all the way on the far right of the picture, that’s the front of our boat. We were doing some figuring and when you look at marina fees, routine maintenance, fuel costs, and other incidentals, the annual cost of having this vessel probably exceed what we paid for our boat. As a point of reference for non-boat folks, things like taking the boat out of the water and putting it back in, cleaning, and painting are all charged by the foot. You also pay for your slip by the size of the boat. So the bigger the boat, the more $$$. Yep, that hole in the water into which you pour money - hobbies are pricey, no matter what they are.

And that’s your lesson today on why you need to think twice before buying a boat. Follow me for more tips!

Happy Thursday!

The day is coming to an end.

I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep. Too many things on my mind.

But I had a student coming in the morning so I cleaned the living room and got it all set.

After the lesson, I went to the friend’s place to help out. The contractor was there so I continued working on installing subflooring.

According to his wife, the friend was feeling a little better today so I went in a talked to him for a few minutes. He doesn’t look good at all. Apparently on bad days he’s not able to communicate.

His wife says it could be as early as next week, but you never know.

I assured him that we would get the remodeling finished and so he should just rest and not worry about it. I’ve contacted a couple of fathers and we’ll try to get the project back on track.

The wife’s putting on a brave face but when I told her that I could get more help, she seemed really appreciative.

It’s been 40 years since I did construction work but it’s like riding a bike. The contractor seems happy to have help.

It’s actually good timing because I want to do work on my house and this is a good chance to see how Japanese build houses. They are converting some tatami rooms into ones with flooring and I need do to the same as well.

I moved some students around so I can go help tomorrow as well. We should finish the first tatami room and I’d like to knock out the second over the weekend. It will go faster now I know what needs doing.

I’m sore in places I forgot I had places. I think I’ll sleep well tonight.

Some really good news. My eldest grandson is finally returning from the Middle East on Saturday after a one-year tour. Even better, he’s finally done with his obligation to the Army national guard and can get on with his life and his wife. He’s hated every second of his enlistment, and it’s been a miserable journey that I won’t go into again. Looking forward to talking to him.

Morning all. Bladder alert got me up about 6:30am and decided too not try and get a few more winks, so I’m up and more or less alert. Nothing major on the schedule, another U7 soccer ‘jamboree’ tonight, we had 19 boys last time we’ll see what today brings. Right now it is clear and 68F with a 40% chance of showers this afternoon. Have started taking my antibiotics, remembering them every 6 hours or so will be a chore, but hey, need to see if the old memory banks are still in operation.

boo fae, there are days living at the end of a cul-de-sac is not a bad thing, and you traffic problems illustrate that. At least the pub evening was a bonus.

Sticky Buns, great news on the weight loss, I dropped nearly 100lbs over three years, but that was my own planning and not any diet regime. Hope you can get the knee fixed soon.

doggio, happy rewiring. And lovely pic of Spot…looks like he’s planning something…

Hippie, that’s a cat who rules his domain…

FCM, guess having an engineer (or two) in the family can be a benefit; and never was close to the water so never got into boating, hope one of these days you can actually go out on the water and have fun with it.

Sensei, sorry about your friend, you are doing a good thing by helping out.

Cookie, good news on grandson coming home.

And time to pour a big bowl O’cereal and break my fast. Have a good Thorsday all.

spot and ralphie are handsome lads.

I didn’t hear the coffee make beep to announce that the coffee is ready this morning, but the light over the stove and the ones under the cabinets were on. It looks like I overslept about five minutes. I got up, not noticing Mrs. L.A. was out in the catio, and logged into irk, and got myself a cuppa joe.

A few minutes ago I noticed a clock said 6:20. Huh? I know I’ve been irking more than 20 minutes! I checked my time clock at irk. It said I’d logged in at five o’clock instead of six!

I guess I’ll have to take a long lunch.

68 ferret height/20 centipedes and mostly cloudy; predicted high 78/26. Highs in the mid to low 80s, with no rain, through Wednesday afternoon.

Don’t think I would like satin sheets (or the rouge angles of Satin, either). I do have a poncho liner which is quite warm, but it’s nylon and slides off the bed with no provocation whatsoever. I’ve tried putting another blanket or two on top of it to weigh it down, but all that does is give me two or three blankets to pick up off the floor instead of just one. Keep thinking I should tie some light weights to the corners, but haven’t gotten around to it yet…

Sheets get changed when they get changed – usually three to four weeks betweentimes. Looking at all the cat hair on it, I should probably do it soon.

My favourite candy bars when I was a kid were Seven Ups (remember those?), Heath bars and Three Musketeers.

This stuff? I add a tablespoon or two to every batch of chili I make.

Good morning.

It’s 58°F and cloudy. It’ll warm up to around 72°F, with peeks of sunshine later in the day, and a very slight chance of a rain shower. Yesterday’s rain was glorious. It rained off and on for most of the day.

My favorite American candy bars as a kid were Skor (or Heath), Caramello, Milky Way, or plain M&Ms. But, I preferred the chocolate my Oma sent over from Germany, or the stuff my mom would occasionally buy for us from the German deli. We didn’t have a lot of money, so those were special treats. Dark chocolate is still my go-to, but as I age, I eat less and less chocolate and sweets.

I need to run a couple of errands today, so I’ll have to shower and dress for public consumption. After the errands, I’ll probably start working on that front flower bed.

Good Lord, that’s a lot of boat, FCM. All I saw were dollar signs associated with care.

Sensei, I’m sorry about your friend.

Sticky, that’s a good amount of weight. Every pound is a step closer to your goal!

Cookie, that’s good news about your grandson.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad there was nothing serious going on with your health.

Okay, time to get the day started. I slept in a little today, so I’m behind.

Mornin’ all - About 10am as I start to drivel.

Up at 6am today on a lovely morning to get GF vertical, sheveled, and out the door. She had to be home by 8 to prep for a Zoom with the accountant trying to find all the money hubby’s been hiding from her for a few years now. Not a pleasant task. At least I had done all I could for the last couple of days to raise her spirits. Who knew satin sheets could fly that far that fast?  :rabbit:. And will console her some more again starting Fri night.

For my part, after she was launched towards home I had an early dermo appointment to inspect for cancers. We do this every 6 months plus the intermediate visits to treat whatever is found. I don’t quite have a reserved parking place in front of his office, but it’s close .

Doc sprayed a dozen or 20 nascent spots, biopsied 2 more substantial ones, and also sprayed a plantar wart I’ve been treating with OTC salicylic acid for a few months now to no great effect. Conveniently the warty area has grown on the side of a toe, not the bottom, so it interferes w walking not at all. He said the first treatment might kill the whole wart, but plan to come back in a month for round 2 to seal the deal.

Bodies need maintenance too. Uggh.

As to y’all:
I have been following along but won’t burden you with a long-winded tit for tat.

Hooray for @Sticks_and_Scones weight loss. That’s a truly huge achievement.

Hooray for @missred’s getting down to the very short strokes on the move. When you’re eating takeout off paper plates of necessity, not choice, the fat lady is definitely getting ready to make her grand entrance and put the show on the road.

@Misnomer’s Lego festival sounds like a real hit.

@FairyChatMom: Good luck w the fuel tank install. I hope you’ll be able to use the boat a time or three before it’s time to winterize it.

Congrats or sympathies or condolences as appropriate to everyone else.

Back to me: I just need to survive about 36 more hours without GF. Fortunately I’ve got a couple of projects to attend to to keep me occupied.

Onward into the day!! Cheers all!

Yay! Now for the rest of his life.

Yay on the weight loss, sticky.

To add to all of the pics of handsome felines, Here’s a small canine.

Under normal circumstances, I change sheets every other week. I do have one set of satin, but really do prefer decent quality plain cotton with a directional print to ease putting on the fitted one.

As a kid, my favorite candy bars were Reese’s cups and Zero bars. But really, my scope was limited enough that anything that didn’t contain coconut was scarfed down.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, tea mug / coffee mug / espresso pot washed and fixing to get sheveled. I need to take an old desktop and a couple of old phones to Staples for recycling, then pick up a couple of more tomatoes, some fruit and milk at Kroger. I should get most of the kitchen packed today afterwards.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
