(Old) A New Hope in the MMP

This is exactly what happend with my father! He grew up on a farm and knew how to repair a lot of things, but was abusive. We would work on projects, which basically meant he would do it while I had to stand by and hand him tools, and god forbid if I made a mistake.

I was on a dragon boat team in Taiwan! fun stuff.

Hippie, I’m sorry about your friend Jim. Gives me the feelz that you call him brother.

Doggio what exactly is redneck stir fry?

My daughter was on her company’s Dragon Boat team last year and she really enjoyed it. She has been looking forward to this year.

And SIL’s father may not have been handy - I don’t know since their parting was quite bitter, and he has since died. While FCD isn’t abusive, he tends to do it himself rather than stand back and watch someone else fumble. His dad, on the other hand, was a good and patient teacher. Anyway, SIL has learned other things and one Christmas we gave him a well-stocked tool box that he’s learning to use. It’s never too late, right?

My team in Taiwan was pretty hard core.

We practiced three times a week at 5:00 am so people could get the practice in before work.

Every year, we improved in the annual tournament, but never won. They take it really seriously here.

Good morning.

It’s around 62°F and damp outside. It’s expected to rain lightly this morning, with intermittent showers in the afternoon, with a high temperature of around 72°F. The last time it rained here was around mid-June, so we need the rain.

Hippie, I’m so sorry about Jim.

VanGo, I’m so happy this job has turned out to be such a good fit for you.

Sensei, I hope the situation is resolved, but somehow, I don’t think this guy will learn or change his behavior. I’d be completely frustrated, too.

I change my sheets once a week, with sometimes a couple of extra days thrown in. I do not iron them. I have the same ironing board I purchased when I first moved out, but it’s been folded and sitting in my closet for at least five years. I also have a steamer. I used to iron just about everything, but I rarely iron now. Occasionally, a collar on a shirt or something will need a touch-up, but that’s about it. Does anyone remember the serious crease that used to be popular for jeans?

I went to visit my old office yesterday and brought treats. People were genuinely happy to see me, and I caught up on some stuff with each of the staff there. I was asked numerous times if I’d return, even by the SD. He expressed great disappointment that I had left, and told me he had been looking forward to working with me again. He then brought up the possibility of returning. I simply said that I don’t think people like me can return, but that the next person in my former position needs to be a supervisor. I also explained that right now, there is nothing to come back to manage, and suggested that he push for the state to manage its budget, travel, purchasing, and leasing issues again. There is much more to the job than that, of course, but those are key. I also explained that for the last two months of my tenure, there was nothing for me to manage, and it’s part of the reason I left.

I chatted with my former peers, and we agreed that next time, I’d let them know in advance that I was coming, so we could all go to lunch. Maybe I’ll go in another month or so.

I need to take care of some laundry, and I might work on pulling some more clothes for donation.

Take care!

Same here. I’ve made the executive decision to leave it in Tennessee, although I did pack my iron for things like dresser scarves, placemats and napkins.

Guilty.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’m going to do up the last of the aigs in patties for the fridge to make easy breakfasts with the fully cooked sauge patties there. I’m wanting to keep it to beverages only on top of the stove and pack the rest of the pots and pans.

I do need to call the electric company and AT&T to give some cut off dates (AT&T will be just to drop wifi when I leave, but keep the mobile). There’s one more trip to Goodwill to be made for my trip outside. I may need a couple more vodka boxes from the likker sto’;, but I can get those when I get closer to being fully packed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

And a good morning all. Body decided I needed a good rest today so was in bed until 8:50am, so still in the wake-up process. Another cool night with the windows open, I could handle this for the next several months, but the Weather Wizards say we’ll be close to 88F today and the same tomorrow, so I suspect the AC will be getting some work in later today. Nothing much on the agenda, think I’ll schedule a Doctor appointment for a couple small things and maybe do some house-irk, but no soccer today so RDOS will be in full effect.

JtC, I suspect it won’t be GG’s primary resting spot–but lovely pictures.

Sticky Buns, I never was much of a social butterfly either at events, glad you survived.

FCM, I’m with you, sheets go in the laundry about every two months. And you sound like you are dealing with the pet situation in a practical manner, so I hope you can stick to your guns and FCD doesn’t bring a ‘surprise’ home.

rocky, a readcation is something I could go for, but just too much else with soccer going on for doing it right now. But the pint of Ben and Jerry’s…hmmmm.

Taters, glad to hear you could make it to the office for some catching-up. Nice to know you are still so valued, even if you won’t be going back.

red, sounds like your in final mode now, no bumps in the road!

And it’s late enough in the morning that I can justify soup-n-sammich to break my fast, so need to head to the kitchen to do so. Have a good Hump Day all

It continues to rain. There is a Flash Flood warning in effect. Between that and the Google Fiber tech coming, I’m not going anywhere for a while, so I’m having a French 75 and French Toast(with bourbon, since it’s Kentucky somewhere) for brunch. Spot moved his nap from my bed to the sectional, so I can finish making my bed.
I change my sheets every other week, and change out the comforter every month.
An iron?

TIL that human plungers are a thing. Which is hilarious and clever at the same time.

chicken, beans, tomatoes, corn, onion, and peppers stir fried with a chipolte tomato sauce.

Also, Spot just flopped onto my keyboard, and now I own 5000 share of Amalgamated Metals, plus what every typnos I may have missed.

The rain continues here - a surprise since it hadn’t been forecast. I’ve ordered 2 tons of pellets - they’ll give me delivery info when they set a schedule. We’re near the edge of the delivery zone and they come this far out only once or twice a week. I also emailed the nursery to put in a request for a landscape consult and I’m waiting for a call on that.

FCD’s cough has subsided considerably. The doc said his lungs sound clear, which is a relief. Guess it was just a nasty, congested cough after all. She was also pleased with his blood test numbers and his weight loss. Good news there.

I pulled some poke out of the freezer - it’ll be cooked sous vide for supper with appropriate sides. Nothing left to do but read the afternoon away, right?

Right.

Hippie, I’m sorry to hear about your friend. But I’m happy for you that you had years of friendship!

Okay, in just a few more hours, we’ll be greeting Izzy at the airport!

We’ve checked a few boxes on that list. Mr. Rilch made the sign: Benvenuta Isabella! in red, green and white letters, of course. I got the snackeroos: Doritos, classic flavor; Combos, pizzeria pretzel; Oreos, classic flavor; M&Ms, classic flavor; a Zagnut, Mr. Rilch’s favorite, and a Fast Break, one of my favorites. And I knew I would be inspired when I got to the (local general) store, so I got a Moon Pie. Ain’t that America.

I didn’t get flags, but I’m bringing the stuffed animals I mentioned. I also got a card – blank inside, front is Woodstock in his nest and no writing – and Google Translated a welcome message in Italian. I’ll put it in her room, so she can read it when she’s alone. And Mr. Rilch has got the playlist ready to go!

Yep. Ever since I moved here 15 months (!) ago, 2/3rds of my ~dozen sheet sets are satin. The ladies love 'em. But yeah, slippery as heck; if I’m alone the bed gets sorta disheveled after a day or two. If I’m not alone, the top sheet and blanket are halfway across the room very quickly. Not because we’re especially … energetic, but because they’re slick as all get out and just don’t stay tucked even a smidgen. I have elastic corner stays on the fitted bottom sheet or else that’d get promptly ripped off the bed too.

The housekeepers change the sheets weekly. They were here this morning and I just finished washing / drying last week’s set.

I mentioned having an iron. But ref @missred’s moving plans, I have no board. I bought this Amazon.com: GORILLA GRIP Ironing Mat which is a lot smaller to store & works well. Funny enough, it comes folded and I’ve so far failed to fully iron the creases out of the ironing pad that’s supposed to be flat to help you iron the creases out of other things. “How Meta” as the kids might say.

I guess we got some wind and rain very early this morning, strong enough to knock over some plants on the terrace, one of which is heavy enough to need two people to lift it. Our tomato plant survived it, but it’s just about done producing fruit, so it wouldn’t have mattered.

Lazy day today, other than exercise this morning. I’ve started drinking a glass of water dosed with one of those electrolyte packets after exercise. It seems to stave off the “crash”, or at least postpone it.

It continues to rain and flood. There are bears in the water.

He’s quite the cutie. Glad he’s feeling better.

It’s amazing how fast a friendship can be built. So sorry that you’re losing your friend.

With you on the Nestle hate and agree about the vanilla crinkle cookies. Not that you need another recipe, but I did see a recipe for lemon crinkle cookies.

I’ll be in the U.S. on Monday. I think I need to avoid the candy and chip aisles, or I’ll buy everything. Never had a Zagnut - sounds like something my dad would like.

I am curious about the music choices. :musical_notes:

Pilot, I can’t imagine having satin sheets. I think we had a set when we first got married, and we both hated them. We have unironed linen sheets. You could take the sheets to a laundry service and let them wash and iron the sheets.

Were you drinking water before, and now you added the electrolytes? Just asking, because I noticed that I would have issues when doing exercises at home, but never when I went to the gym, even though I was doing more strenuous exercises at the gym.

I finally realized that I always drank water at the gym, and never drank anything when exercising at home. Once I started drinking water while exercising at home, I no longer had any issues.

Made a lime poppyseed loaf/cake, so I finished off the bag of limes and the carton of eggs. Found plain M&Ms as expected, so I added them to the pile of stuff we’re taking with us.

I presume I can still bring chocolate into the U.S. That’ll be part of Saturday’s plans, along with haircuts and getting out the suitcases.

Sun’s going down, and tomorrow’s a long day, so calling it.

Good night!

Thanks for this fascinating link. I learned a lot. Including which bears to watch out for.

Yeah, as soon as I returned to the apartment.

Afternoon all. Sitting in the Doctor’s office, they had an afternoon appointment available so I’m going to get a little lump under my ear checked and ask about my cologuard test. Nothing serious but will keep me occupied and away from the nibbles. Might even get some reading in.

And I am already checked in an in the exam room, guess Wednesday afternoon is a good time to see the Doctor.

FCM, glad FCD is doing better.

Fruminous, may all go well.

And Doc will be in shortly so I’ll sign off now

Daughter just found out (and shared with me) that the formerly little boy who lived down the street from us when they were all in elementary school just made Chief in the Navy. Hard to imagine that little blond headed kid in khakis!

Stoopit extended forecast shows 90s coming back next week. Dammit.

Too bad that they don’t make anvils.

I got my wifi and electric stopped for the 18th, packed up some stuff in the kitchen and took the last donation to Goodwill today. I also did up the last 1/2 dozen aigs into patties, so’s I can pack dishes, pots and pans tomorrow. Supper was a salad on a paper plate and a piece of chicken from Popeye’s. I picked up a 3 pieces for $5 while I was out and that will do for a couple of meals.

Now for chillage.

And the Doc said it was nothing to worry about, just a lymph node that was swelling, but prescribed me some antibiotics for the next 10 days, just because. Also promised to get a Cologuard kit ordered for me, we’ll see…

Have Chee-burgered and am now contemplating going to the gym for an hour or so, but may decide to take a day off. We’ll see.

FCM, they grow up so fast…and I get the 90F back tomorrow, so enjoy your time.

And that’s all the interesting stuff for today.
