I had one of those bad dreams. I kept trying to find my son. This time I found him, but was saying Why didn’t you contact me?
Sigh.
Okay, off to church.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon sloth on the agenda(with occasional Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies). It’s up to 36 degrees Ferret Height(2.2 Centipedes) outside.
[Ben Kenobi]Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time[/Ben Kenobi]
They’re the extra special treats that I use to bribe reward him for being a brave boi or to train him to do new things. They’re evidently worth the effort for him.
Nice work! Hospice will be happy to get them.
Happy anniversary!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do Sunday chores / KP. Not a whole lot shakin’ here today, as usual.
Morning all. The NY Times for Sunday has been obtained along with a few this and that items. it’s aboe freezing (36F) right now and heading into the 50’s. Outside of my meatloaf dinner at the Metro Cafe a bit later, will probably stay inside and watch the tackleball games.
Would have sworn I posted something last evening but there is no sign of it, so I will soldier through the 35 or so messages since my last one.
It is, but the guy in charge (his nickname–which he chose–is ‘Mad Bob’) somehow manages it and gets the kids to (mostly) do what he asks…it would drive me crazy inside of 30 minutes, but he loves doing it.
So far I have been with the same Dentist for nearly 15 years and don’t thing I’ve ever run into the problems others have. Hope she keeps practicing…
I personally think this is the best comment of the week.
You pork forker you…
Sticky Buns, good on ya for the art donation. Haven’t been to a Bob Evans in many years now, how are they to eat at?
There or from the Three Stooges, I think Moe used it on occasion…
obi-wan, that’s a rather clever commercial, thanks for sharing.
JtC, thanks for the info; maybe that is why they held me longer, or maybe just hospital policy. And your love of books and reading is reciprocated here.
Cupcakes, I lived in a Muslim country (United Arab Emirates) for 4 years, and the Subways and other samdwich shops offered something called ‘beef ham’ or ‘beef bacon’, which tasted, almost, but not quite, totally unlike ham. And there was 1-2 stores in town that had a ‘special’ section for non-Muslims where we could get pork/ham/bacon. But it was still a long 4 years…
Story of my life these days. After a certain age things just decide to ache for no apparent reason.
FCM, those are some impressive blankets and they will be used for a good cause.
Happy Anniversary, Taters!!!
And that should catch me up, more or less. Have a good Sunday all.
I have had a headache for 3 days. Yesterday I took Sumatriptan several times, and ibuprofen on Friday, and nothing helped. I woke up around 4am with what felt like knitting needles being driven into my sinuses. Then I remembered I have emergency Prednisone in case I get a sinus infection. Took 40mg and the needle stabbing is waning, although my eyes hurt if I move them to the side.
I plan to visit Ariel today. I haven’t been out there in a week due to weather. I hope she’s as happy to see me as I am to see her.
I’m also taking a sabbatical from national news. I get the Chicago Tribune digitally and that keeps me abreast of local news.
@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat , where do you buy your Sunday NYT? I have a digital sub but I would love to have the crossword.
They look great! It is wonderful that they will be put to a caring use.
Happy anniversary taters!
Asknott, one of my favourite lines from Sherlock, is “dust is eloquent!”. So very true. I should make a tee shirt. I find the crowdrift eloquent as well.
It is 33, above freezing, degrees outside.
It feels like 26.
The snow is shining, and I’m sure the snow is melting.
Hopefully, my son’s toilet will thaw out as well. The previous owner warned us that his toilet may stop flushing when it gets really cold. I don’t remember why but they said nothing will crack or break.
You’d think sharing a bathroom wouldn’t be a big deal with only two adults in the house, but once you get used to having one all to yourself it gets annoying to share.
I haven’t heard from B/H mom, but I assume the puppy playdate is still on.
She has better grass than we do so hopefully her yard is not going to be a muddy mess. Her husband puts in a lot of irk to keep their yard nice. He mows, trims, fertilizes, edges, aerates, seeds, rakes, and waters, and spends a shit ton of time and money on it.
We mow when needed.
Nice blankets FCM
I used to crochet; I wonder if my fingers could handle it now.
I had to hand sew a tear in one of my son’s shirts the other day and my fingers aren’t as nimble as they once were.
His new shirts from Duluth are long enough. I ordered a bag of Rocky Mountain Oyster treats for the dogs, I hope they like them. Two shirts came to $49 exactly, and I had to spend $50 to get free shipping. So dog treats were added.
I’ll keep the shirts he doesn’t like for myself. One can never have too many loose plain black t-shirts.
I think the pork sounds nice FlyBoy. Maybe one day I’ll get inspired to start cooking again.
You can spill if you want Shoe
By chance, do you have Toosday or Thorsday off this week?
It’s not really cooking. I have a jar of pork rub that I mixed up. I just put it on the roast, covered the baking pan, and put it in a 230º oven for six hours.

Our “heat wave” is finally noticeable: it’s currently 38°F (well above freezing! yay!), and the forecasted high is 44. It’ll be overcast all day, but I’ll definitely take it. Temps will be in the upper 40s tomorrow and Tuesday, and Wednesday’s forecasted high is now up to 58! All of the remaining snow and random bits of ice should melt soon, and my lawns and the gravel driveway will go back to being completely bare. There’s nothing scary in the forecast for the next 10 days – in terms of either temps or precip – so I’m looking forward to at least a couple weeks of being able to go about my business without having to consider the weather.
In a few hours I’ll be talking with my “aunt” (my mom’s BFF since they were in HS) for the first time in a while. We’ve emailed each other for ages, and more frequently in the past nine years since Mom died, but her almost-88-year-old husband’s prostate cancer has been giving him trouble recently and he’s been in and out of hospitals and rehabs and requiring more care at home and she hasn’t been able to write in a couple of months (yes, she has help). She still lives in her/my mom’s hometown: I visit them whenever I go to NJ for something family-related, but the last trip was almost eight months ago. Yesterday I asked if she’d be up for a phone conversation, and she suggested today at around 1pm. It’ll be good to hear her voice, and find out how things are going. I fear that my next trip to NJ will be for his funeral.
Later today I’ll go to DC to see/hear Freda Payne. There were also shows last night, that a couple of friends went to, and reports are that she still sounds great – especially for an 82-year-old. Dinner will be early: I want to eat there and it’s a 5:30 show, so I’ll be arriving/ordering at around 5:00. Between that and my 1pm phone call, I’m aiming to also have lunch earlier than usual; probably right after I post this.
That is true.
I remember hearing “murderize” in old cartoons but with an exaggerated NY accent, so it came out more like “moid-ah-rize.” Is that maybe what you’re thinking of?
That was awesome!
I’m sad to report that the closest Bob Evans is less than 13 miles from me.
I was born in '71, which helps my age math because I can just subtract one from the current year to get the second digit (i.e., I know that this year my age will end in a “4”). I always know what the first digit currently is, but it gets harder and harder to easily calculate when I’m trying to figure out how old I was in a certain year. (“Whaddya mean, 1980 was 45 years ago?!?”)
I had a bit of a crisis a couple of months before I turned 30. Not in a “break down and cry” kind of way, just that it felt significant – like, being an adult – and I hadn’t accomplished enough. I had a few “I’m still single and broke and only a few years into my first real job and shouldn’t I have more things figured out by now??” moments. However, 9/11 wound up happening ten days before my 30th birthday: so, by then I didn’t care about my age one single bit.
(Neither 40 nor 50 bothered me at all.)
Very nice! I think my favorite – since absolutely no one asked – is the grey with green and maroon stripes.
With a digital subscription you can pay an additional each month and get all the puzzles and games. It’s like $5.99 a month extra. Call the sub customer service # and ask to have ‘Games’ added to your subscription.
Same here. FCD occasionally obsesses about wanting a perfect lawn. But the way I see it - if it’s green and doesn’t harbor stickers or poison ivy, then it’s close enough. I suppose if we had all kinds of money lying around waiting to be spent, I might hire someone to give us such a lawn, but we don’t, so I won’t.
About the same for me (maybe 15 miles) and since they don’t serve Coke products, I resist going there. The last time we went (some months ago) it really wasn’t all that good. I avoid IHOP for the same reason - no Coke products.
For me it’s - Whaddya mean my baby girl will be 40 this year?!?!?
I still have some assorted partial skeins of yarn left, so I’m making a rectangular granny square-style lap robe. The colors are not at all complimentary, but I don’t care. If it’s warm, that works. As soon as I’m done ingesting lunch, I’ll get back to my recliner and Death in Paradise. I swear, for a small Caribbean island, they sure do have a lot of murder!
OMG - You’d think Food Lion was giving it all away!! When I got there, only 3 carts were in the store and people were following others to their cars to get their carts! Shoppers were stopping in the middle of aisles to chat or to stare at shelves, causing major jams. Others were moseying along slowly, totally oblivious to anyone else.
I only needed a few things and I managed to get them all without killing anyone. Mainly, I needed milk since I decided to make potato soup for supper, and I figured while there, I’d grab a few other things. Luckily, the last thing was in an aisle that led directly to a checkout that had only one person so I unloaded and got checked out pretty quick. And as soon as I put my empty cart in the corral, I saw a guy run over and grab it.
Insanity!!!
But I’m home unscathed and now, finally, I’ll plop down in my recliner to watch the latest murder in Saint Marie (a fictional island, so don’t bother looking it up.)
Thanks - I tried to randomize the colors and widths of stripes - I’m pleased with how it came out.
And oopsie - I like the gray with the stripes also. I tried to do some that seemed more masculine - I expect some men would blanch ah the thought of having a blanket with pink or purple on it.
And thanks to all for your kind words - I’m rather pleased with the outcomes.
in case you’re having a bad day, ICD-10 Code W56.12 is a medical classification as listed by WHO under the range - Other external causes of accidental injury for being struck by a sea lion.
I looked at picture, and my immediate response was, “Want”. Looked it up and it’s a bit more pricey than expected, as it is a GWP. According to the price history on the website (local equivalent of Amazon), it would have been ⅓ the price in October. So I’m not buying it, but at least I get to look at the picture of the one you did.
Yay! Glad Jolene’s got her man back.
With the Year of the Snake starting Tuesday, you might want to check again. Who knows where they might show up.
Seems to be the type of people who should be ghosted.
Sounds like a good idea, especially since you had coaching to do later. All that work you’ve done in the last 2+ years is probably paying off now, but don’t rush it too much.
My mom was raving about that program. They just got Britbox in the last month, which is good because it gives them something else to watch, especially after football’s over. I just checked and it’s on Disney, so I’ll add it to the watch list.
For those of you with really cold temperatures and snow, you’d probably be a bit jealous of our almost 60°F (15°C) weather yesterday. The weather people are blaming the storm up in England for our warm temperatures. Weather’s weird.
We got our new sheets, duvet and pillows on Wednesday/Thursday last week. And we rotated the mattress and washed the mattress cover and laundry basket inserts. Plus the normal laundry meant that there were 8 loads of laundry over 2 days. And 2 5-mile (8 km) walks. I need a weekend to recover from the weekend.
