(Old) Another English Autumnal MMP

Weird way to start the day - I woke to a demand for bladder relief (not the weird part) and I heard a steady, high-pitched tone that seemed to vary according to where I was. The windows are open, and I thought it was either a persistent insect chorus or maybe something in the neighbor’s yard. But when I finally headed down the hall to tend to Higgs, it got louder. I stuck my head in both other bedrooms - nothing. And nothing in the rest of the upstairs, but when I opened the door to the basement, it was decidedly louder. Overly long story short, it was the carbon monoxide alarm in my studio (right under our bedroom.) Since we haven’t turned on our furnace yet, I knew it wasn’t that, so I took it off the wall and discovered one of the batteries was corroding - once I popped it out, the tone stopped. So I need to get a couple more batteries.

It’s definitely not CO - the only things that could cause it in the house are 2 fireplaces and the furnace, none of which have been used yet this season. The rest of the house is all electric. So, mystery solved. And I hope it was just a low battery indicator and not the actual alarm since it was more background noise than a loud alert. After I put in new batteries, I’ll do the press-to-test and see.

While I was downstairs, I tossed a load of towels in the washer. When that load is done, I’ll haul the rest of the dirties down because it’s Laundry Day!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

We got an email from our marina yesterday - they’re closing the pool today. I’m surprised - most places close them right after Labor Day. Not that it’s been warm enough to swim these last couple of weeks.

Apart from laundry, I think I’m gonna bake a pineapple upside down cake today. I don’t use the rings - I’ll spread a layer of tidbits (little chunks) because I think it’s easier to eat and the pineapple is distributed more evenly. Apart from that, no plans yet. But I’m sure stuff will need to be done.

Happy Saturday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and cloudy. Another day of RDOS inactivities is in store. My DAWGS play the Auburn Kitties at three thirty p.m., so there’s that to look forward to. Outside of that, the big events will be nappage and day drinkin’. Any need to feed will be via forage, unless we decide to go the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet place.

MOOOOOOM yay for RoxStar and the Tobester gettin’ to play with puppies! I am jealous.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

This afternoon. Not sure if I’m going in to work tonight, depending on how late I get home pending any flight delays, how busy they’ll be, whether or not someone called out, etc.

I see what you did there!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 15c/59f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Enjoy today. Tomorrow could very well fucking suck ass.” It looks quite nice out there, blue sky and sun, but I have no need to be outside today.

Those last few words are the important ones, you must have needed the sleep so I’m glad you managed to get it! Also, nice to have someone else make breakfast for you

Yay for getting good legal advice, and being able to talk to your doc about options. Boo to your boss for not replying to you - fingers crossed that it works out for you.

Lucky have a great trip - I’ve been to Oregon and loved it, the places we went were fun and the people were really nice.

Cookie sorry to hear about your grandson’s deployment. I hope he has a safe one.

Sari it’s nice of the neighbour to help, especially if he knows you’re waiting for parts for the mower and not just ignoring the lawn

Yesterday was really busy for work, lots of stuff got done though and I finally finished the last set of meeting minutes. They didn’t take long, they just got pushed further and further back because there were more important things to be done. Anyway, I did the things, and got out of irk on time.

The travel gods were in a strange mood, they decided to let my normal train run on time but everything around it was delayed so I ended up on a train slightly earlier than I normally catch, and consequently managed to get home a bit earlier too. Good news, since we were out last night.

We went to see three great bands, had some lovely chats with gig friends at the venue, and it was great catching up with one of the bands that we’re good friends with. We’ll be seeing them again next weekend at a little shindig in the Welsh valleys. Afterwards, we wandered into town and stopped to say hello to a friend (coincidentally, from Wales!) who’d been at a different gig, he was heading back to his hotel but stopped for a couple of minutes. Then we went to our favourite rock pub and had a couple of drinks there before getting a cab home. Always fun to sit in there and do some people-watching. Cab home was summoned, and we were on the sofa with tea and toast by 2am.

I got up about 8.30am to see to feline tums and bums, then went back to bed for a while. Now I’m up and catching up on what’s going on here. I have no plans for the day, nothing I need to do outside the house so no need for errands today. I have stuck my nose out of the front door though, but only to put some rubbish in the bins. Lunch will be whatever’s in the fridge, and I have some chicken to cook for dinner tonight but haven’t decided yet what I’m doing with it.
Happy Caturday, everyone!

BooFae - do you need passports or some sort of ID to cross into Scotland or Wales? Dunno why this suddenly came to mind, but it’s early and my brain goes weird places. Not like Scotland or Wales, tho. l)

Morning all. For once youth soccer is not a early start, my first game is not until 9:45am so I have a little time here, so eating a Big Bowl of Cheerios. Lots of players missing, this is the end of Fall Break for the schools and lots of folks are taking a holiday weekend, but I have enough to play (barely). Sloth will be the order of the day afterwards, looks like a beautiful day heading close to 90F and no chance of rain.

FCM, boo fae is the authority, but I think England/Scotland/Wales are all part of the United Kingdom so no passports are necessary. And I need to check my batteries on the various warning detectors in my house, too.

shoe, saw your pictures on the Book of Faces, you look good in white! Safe travels home.

boo fae, you have the most enjoyable weekends.

OK, need to rebandage my thumb (was slicing tomatoes last night and oops…) and start getting organzied (HA!). Have a good Sattiday all.

Well, that was dumb. I was filling in my early ballot and I used a sharpie instead of a pen. It bled thru to the back side. I need to get another one, dammit. Luckily, the board of elections is in Leonardtown in the old library building. I’ll head over there on Moanday morning. Dumb me.

Third load in the washer, second in the dryer, first is folded and put away. FCD is in the shower and he’ll call me when he’s done so I can get cleaned up.

The order I’d canceled was delivered yesterday while we were gone. It wasn’t just the cheaper part of the order (I wouldn’t have bothered to return a $20 order.) It was, in fact, the whole $200 order. So I emailed the company and see what they want to do. If they want it back, they can send me a pre-paid label. I’m not paying anything for their mistake. So we’ll see what they say.

OK, time to shower…

Tested negative! Whew!

Going on the shopping trip.

Ha ! Did you buy Tobias that shirt ?!

That is correct.

But…but…but where do you put the maraschino cherries?

Yay!

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, patio / yard irk done and fixing to do KP. I think I’ll hit the grocery outlet today for TP, snacks and meat, but otherwise, it will be a slothful day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I did not - I’m assuming his other grandmother did because she’s Grandma and I’m Busi - gotta remind the kid of his Polish DNA.

I space them so that each piece gets a cherry. It’s a 9X13 pan so I think that translates to a dozen roughly square servings.

Last load is in the dryer. I’m just about done sewing together the squares for the latest lap blanket, and I’m reminded what I don’t like piecing together blankets. Since I made the squares over several days, the tension varies a little, and on a large square, a small variation in tension translates to a large difference in the size of the finished piece. So after it’s all done, I’m going to toss it in the dryer, hoping it’ll resolve itself a bit. And I won’t be making any more pieced-together blankets. So there!

Just a little more stitching, then twice around the outside and I’ll be done with this one. Then I’ll look in my various pattern books for the next project. I’m thinking shades of browns next.

I have got a tale to tell, that I won’t bore anyone with here. Suffice to say that I have become more familiar with eviction laws (but I didn’t get evicted) and blah blah blah, yada yada yada, … I’m moving into my studio apartment today. Right now I am in a hotel about a half hour walk away. I need to get a suitcase, a bag full of personal effects, a laptop and a dog up there by noon (check out time) … but I need to be at the unit to get the keys in an hour. What do I schlep up with me on the first trip? Do I leave it all here and do it all at once? Bring the suitcase get the rest later? Rent a UHaul and just drive it all up with I get stuff out of storage too? Or do I wait to do the storage stuff until I can get my friend to help me with the big stuff?

It’s been a crazy friggin’ month and I’m right on the crest of the hill. It’s been exhilarating I’ll say that much.

This reminds me of what happened to our daughter.

They extended their house by having the loft converted to a fourth bedroom and shower. One of the many rules the builders had to comply with was to install mains operated smoke alarms in place of the existing battery-operated ones.

About a year later they could hear a faint chirping noise that they couldn’t trace. it was driving them mad and after an extensive search, they found one of the old alarms, chirping to say its battery was flat, that the builders had, for some unknown reason, chucked into some of the remaining roof space, behind a small access panel.

Laundry is done. Cake is in the oven. Critter fountain is clean and refilled. Guess I’ll crochet till the cake has to come out of the oven. Go me!!

We only had one egg, so I made The Missus a cheese omelette-and bacon sandwich on sourdough toast. I had cream cheese and cold-smoked salmon on multi-grain (and a rasher on the side).

It didn’t flip out of the pan as neatly as I’d have liked, but it still looks yummmm!

15 cherries = 15 servings.

Today we did have pitta bread with hummus.

Yes please. I’ll bring the custard !

The usual Saturday chaos, but a good long week. Laundry is in the dryer, college handegg is on the TV, and half a gin&tonic is in me.

No. Although if the Scots had their way, she might.

That’s positive.

Yay!

Especially for someone like him. He’s probably a candidate for conscientious objector, as I can’t imaging him pointing a gun at someone, let alone shooting them.

I’m making the NYT’s recipe for apple crumble today. It’s now in the oven getting all delicious. Also, cheesesteaks wit for dinner.

My first trip with the clax cart was (singing) awesome! (end singing).

So light, so maneuverable, easy to pass others in the aisles, and I was able to go from store to store with out loading and unloading a store cart.

I got off the shuttle deployed the cart (pushing one button), rolled into 4 stores, went over 4 sets of train tracks, and rolled back on to the shuttle.

I also got 6 Christmas presents for others and only 3 for me!

Yes, Micheals, home goods, and target have deployed winter holiday items.

I will have to think of a name for the cart. It is really fantastic, kinda like a transformer. You press the button and it unfolds, sets handle angles, breaks, and folds up.

This has sparked joy.
