(Old) Another English Autumnal MMP

I might do that, but walked over there after my Wal-Mart trip and they are building a road, nothing more is going on at least for now). Looked it up in google maps, the only thing the road reaches is the Madison water pumping station, so hopefully this is just an access road for city vehicles. We’ll see.

New pajama bottoms acquired, along with Pepsi, a 10-pack of Smartfoods popcorn, socks, and pens…Wal-Mart is good at getting your dollars. In about an hour or two and I’ll probably head over to the gym for a little workout. Up to 77F now and a perfectly clear day.

Indeed it was…

Last night I caved and turned the heat on for the first time this season: the house had been on the chilly side for a couple/few days, but we’ve had a lot of rain and in the evening it also started to feel a bit damp inside. It was too cool for the a/c to be effective in that regard, and the feeling was becoming kind of yucky – plus, I started to be concerned about chilly + damp + Bailey’s arthritis. So I turned the heat on, and left it set at 70°F overnight. I turned it off this morning, and currently have the storm door pane raised and a home office window open. Right now it’s only 66 and still cloudy and kinda wet outside, but it isn’t supposed to rain again for at least a couple of weeks (:crossed_fingers:) and today’s expected high is 74 with gradually increasing sunshine.

Work is quiet-ish at the moment. My only meetings today are both proposal-related (different props), and neither should be challenging…but, of course, any given email/MS Teams message could result in the day going right off the rails.

Yesterday I made appointments for two vaccinations that I’ve been putting off: Shingrix (which has been due since 2020), and an updated Tdap (which has been due since July). I’ll get them both at CVS on Saturday afternoon. I might have to pay out-of-pocket for the Shingrix – my insurance was weird about it the last time I tried – but I looked up the possible costs and decided that I’m willing to eat them in order to get it over with. I had chickenpox as a baby, and I am not trying to ever get shingles!

I talk to Bailey all of the time, but she’s got some hearing loss and is usually sleeping; I rarely get any acknowledgement. She definitely knows the words/my tones of voice for “outside,” “walk,” and “Milk Bones/cookies,” though.

I often wonder how long it will take me to stop talking to her after she’s gone (whenever that time comes)…sigh.

I’m really not one to “squee,” but those guys are pushing me toward it! LOL!

Yesterday was the second of the month. Perhaps that’s part of why you were so busy?

Interesting! I’m not aware of having unusual cravings when I’m sick, but I’m going to try to pay attention to any next time.

Thanks. Wife BFF agrees, too. I don’t need external validation of my decisions, but sometimes it’s nice to know that I’m not completely off my rocker yet. Heh.

I feel like it’s still fairly common here to see separate taps on bathroom sinks, either in homes or in commercial spaces. Bathtubs/showers and kitchen sinks often have single taps, and some commercial bathroom sinks do as well, but I wouldn’t think twice about seeing separate hot and cold in a lavatory.

Ugh, I hate when that happens. I hope it passes soon!

:crossed_fingers: :people_hugging: :crossed_fingers:

When I say ‘first of the month’, I mean the first week or week and a half of the month. It’s the datalanche.

Back from erranding and stuff. I showed BIL how to pay his VISA on line. Since his password is saved, it takes all of 3 or 4 clicks then it’s done. I wrote it down step by step. We’ll see what happens this time next month.

His paranoia about paying bills goes back a lot of years when he got into a lot of financial trouble by being gullible and trusting. So now he’s swung to the other extreme, feeling like he needs to pay off his bills immediately or he’ll be thrown in jail or something. Logic doesn’t work - he worries anyway. So we’ll see how it goes.

I ran to WalMart and Aldi for a few things, including a 5# chub of ground beef that has since been converted into 3 meatloaves - 2 in the freezer, one in the fridge for Moanday dinner. I’ve helped FCD load the truck for a trek to the convenience center, which he’ll do when he gets back from checking the boat. My next chore is emptying the dishwasher.

Here there be gloom.

MIL woke sometime after 9, ate half a piece of toast and drank half a cup of hot chocolate, then fell asleep. It’s now noon and she’s still sleeping. I just hope she doesn’t die tomorrow while Daughter is here and we’re in Annapolis… but the appetite, the sleeping, the confusion are all getting worse.

I have another order of yarn being delivered today so I can do the last square for the latest afghan. I started edging the completed squares last night. Pics soon.

OK, the dishwasher is calling my name - guess I’d better attend to my chores.

Question about a situation. A few days ago, I placed a couple of orders, then found out the company is scammy, so I canceled the order and the refund has posted to my credit card. BUT I just got a notification that the cheaper of the 2 orders is on its way.

What do I do?

Mark the package “refused - return to sender”, then hand it back to whichever shipping company was used?

Visited a friend in north central Pennsylvania. They have internet provided by Starlink and are about 20 minutes from a hospital (Walmart and Cracker Barrel are closer). And more than 25 acres of land.

Not sure I could do that - I’m used to being in suburbia, such as it is. I like being able to walk to the store, etc. Fortunately there’s something for everyone.

Did all the prep work to get our windowsills painted today, and then found out that the weather’s too rainy for the painter so nothing’s happening today. Should finish putting away the suitcases, etc. I much prefer getting home when it’s still light outside, but we’re fully in the autumnal gloom period. Drizzle, fog, blah. At least tomorrow is Friday.

Waiting for takeoff.

Such a difference from the 80s. Here I sit ~broken hearted~ poking around on a fancy phone, and NOT sitting next to some weird creep smoking a cigarette and hitting on a 9-yr-old.

Thank goodness for my wonderful husband. I have yet to hear back from my ‘boss’ about my really important questions. I sent her a follow-up email when I got up from a nap a few minutes ago. What does this have to do with MusicMan? He’s 110% got my back. He’s being very supportive and understands if I end up leaving this job as well. I am frustrated, but grateful to have his support.

Oh, and two lawyers have officially told me that they don’t want to represent me.

Spent an embarrassing amount of money to have cheesesteaks delivered by Goldbelly from Pat’s in Philly. Got a serious craving and there is no such thing as a good cheesesteak in MSP, as far as I can tell. Expected delivery on Friday; I’ll let you know how they are.

Saw a good recipe for fuckin’ ziti (Sopranos reference) on the NYT today. I’m going to give it a try in the near future.

I got a walk in today, but otherwise did squat. Oh wait: I made cornbread. I didn’t have any buttermilk so used sour cream cut with milk. Tomorrow is flu/covid shots here at Walking Dead Manor.

I do NOT miss smoking on planes! Safe travels.

I haven’t seen separate taps in more years than I want to admit. I remember them in my grandmother’s bathroom sink and I used to see them when stopping at BillyBob’s gas and bait sto (they really were everywhere back in the day), but I’ve never seen separate taps in showers or kitchens.

I think that’s because I was raised on the west coast and then moved to one of the youngest states in the country. Things were new. Homes were built with indoor plumbing and electric lights because it was a thing then, not like Stickies 1874 home.

You have a basement! And a Jesus’ tomb? Yeah, I’m all kinds of jealous despite the stairs. I’ve never even been in a home basement, just commercial ones.

I sure do hope that if the job doesn’t work out, you can move on quickly and without undue drama. Dang about the lack of response, boss sounds pretty busy and overworked-or uncaring. Neither of those things bode well in a new job.

Plan to take the next day off, that one sucks. It will double suck if you have to pay for it yourself, be sure to run it by the pharmacy first.

Last time I was planning to visit Mom, I wanted to update my COVID shot before leaving. My insurance didn’t want to pay for some stoopid reason and the pharmacy wouldn’t let me self-pay because they had a contract or something.

I’m still embarrassed by my reaction. I called my insurance company and took it out on the poor CSR and then escalated. I still wish I had written down the CSR’s name so I could reach out to apologize. It wasn’t her fault and I shouldn’t have gotten so frustrated with her poor english. I’m sure she was doing her best.

I used to hate coming home from work after dark. I really hated the two months a year that I had to get up in the dark and come home in the dark. I hope you can join us RDOS soon.

Do you have a pool available? If so, swimming after jabbing is amazing. Usually the COVID shot leaves me feeling like I’d been hit in the arm with a baseball bat. Not after swimming, there was no soreness or swelling. I highly recommend.

First 2 lap afghans. You’ll note that one brown stripe is lighter than the others - either a dye lot issue or they no longer make the color I used (It was from 3 years ago.) I love the blue one, tho.
Imgur
They’re each roughly 46"X42" I think - I didn’t measure them and I don’t care enough to bother. But they’re for use in a wheelchair or an arm chair where a full size afghan is too much. They’ll be going to Hospice along with the rest I make. My last order of yarn showed up today, so that’s 7 more skeins. I figure I have enough for half a dozen more depending on the pattern I choose. We shall see…

Supper was sloppy joes, ripple chips, and dill spears. Dishes are in the dishwasher and I’m about to get back to edging the squares for the next afghan. Pics soon, I hope, tho not tomorrow. We’re leaving early for the boat show. Woohoo!

I love your work. I am so happy that my right hand is now able to let me start crocheting again. I’m still slow, but the index and middle finger are bending enough to let me work. I have three unfinished small afghans to finish before anything new.

Thanks. It’s therapeutic, plus it may make things nicer for some people in Hospice. I ran out of family members to make blankets for and we must have a dozen of our own. And my mom is no longer active in AARP, so that outlet ended a few years back.

And now back to it…

Really? When we lived in Akron, our house was a ranch with a partially finished basement. My grandpa had owned a carpentry business with his brothers and they turned the basement into a two bedroom apartment. We all lived together, basically, until the house was sold starting with my parents and I upstairs and my grandparents and great grandparents downstairs. It was nice because the house was on a sloping hill and you could exit the house from either the upstairs or the side door in the basement.

My basement here has dirt floors and a very large hole in one spot (the tomb) where there was apparently a coal chute. It’s always fun when some kind of a worker has to come out to install a cable of sorts and has to crawl inside the hole to get under the living room.

I think they’re great! I don’t even see what you’re talking about with the color difference. I hope that you have a great time at the boat show!

Nope. I don’t suppose flopping around in the shower will do the same thing? And I don’t swim, in any case.

Howdy Y’all! I mowed for a little over four hours today. I stopped once to get more gas, and twice for bathroom and water breaks. I was tahrd when I got back to da cave! I had a beerverage, then a shower, then another beerverage. I napped for about an hour and then we nuked and et leftovers. I’m glad I did what I did today, but I am still all tuckered out. Methinks there will be an early bedtime.

StickyBuns Shavin’ and makin’ the coif somewhat presentable make me feel better. Plus, what if I got in an accident and had to go to the horsepistol unshaven and with a messy coif. OYKW would never be able to live it down!

shoe you’re probably in Texas by now, so hope the flight down was good.

I can’t see the colour difference either.

Today the stuffy nose is back to my normal snot level. The cats are enjoying me home all day and night.

Good luck in Texas and dinner in white purplehorseshoe.

I wouldn’t notice the colors as much as I would the love involved in making them for strangers. It is very kind of you to do this for them, I know that they will be appreciated.

Surprisingly enough, the water table is too high in S. CA and AZ to allow basements. That made me sad every summer because I had heard that basements were where people went when it got hot.

No basement here either and we didn’t see basements in any of the places we were looking at.

I ain’t the greatest one in the water nowadays either. I swim twenty yards or so and then bob around until I can start swimming again.

Didn’t anyone tell you to do push-ups after getting your shots in the military? That’s because it really is best to get the circulation going to break that vax bolus up and spread it through your body.

You deserved all of that, mowing that long is work!

Do be sure to always were clean underware!

That’s good to hear. Hurray for you training your immune system via shots so it knows what to attack.

So, I want to ask for opinions now. We have signed up with a cleaning company and today they sent someone out to spiff our place up. The cleaner brought four young children with him and left three of them in the SUV while the fourth one dusted and carried messages back and forth.

Of course the children needed to come inside to use the bathroom or get drinks of water, but they were horrible about closing the doors. They did what I remember doing, standing in the open door and yelling back and forth. I grabbed the fuzzbutts and went into my room and closed the door.

He did a super good job, despite taking longer than expected (but charging what we had expected).

I understand that childcare is hard to find and kids are expensive, but is this a normal thing back here?

Once we get comfortable with our housekeepers, we usually just go somewhere else to get out of the way. I really wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving if this is something I need to get used to. They weren’t bad kids, but kids are careless and I could easily see Jolene following one outside and then scampering off to roll around on the highway.

I want to tell the agency that I don’t want dad and kids back, but I also don’t want them to not be able to pay their rent. Any ideas?

Whether we wanted to or not  . Shots don’t usually bother me much.
