Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and becomin’ N.O.S. midafternoon. It’s laundry day! The peasants rejoice! Also I will meet up with the head of the Altar Guild this afternoon over to the church house. My assistance is needed to remove the refillable candles in the Little Chapel from their stands so they and the brass stands can be cleaned. For some reason those two candles and stands can be stubborn and she has not been able to get them apart. I almost never say no to a request from the Altar Guild. I am afraid of them and the Episcopal Church Women.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day!
Mornin’ all - Was up by 6 and balconated until the sun rose first above the horizon and then above some clouds. Which was just a few minutes ago. So got about 90 minutes of pretty. Venus was very bright rising ahead of the sun. NWS sez now 72/22 on the way to 87/30 & sunny all day. Yaay.
This is about the time of year to start opening up the house mid evening and leaving it that way until mid-morning. So fresh.
Almost had a dating disaster last night. I’d lost track of the day of the week; thinking it Tuesday, not the Monday it really was. So midafternoon I invited GF to join me for taco Tuesday at a place sorta between our residences, so about a half-hour drive each. After some back and forth we decided to skip it; she’s too busy.
Problem was I thought Tuesday was then-today and I’d have gone there that day. Meanwhile, she knew Tuesday was then-tomorrow and she’d not have gone. I’d have driven way the hell out of my way to go to a place she wasn’t coming to, for the tacos that would be full price. .
I figured out my day of week mistake only later when I was riding free-uber to my local taco place and the driver asked me why I didn’t wait until tomorrow when they’d be on special. .
So I settled for the local tapas place that does Montadito Mondays instead.
Need to get this on the wire so I can get clean and get scarce before the housekeepers come a -knockin’
Can’t say it better than that. It will get better, but meanwhile it’s one of the suckiest things in life. I’m sorry you’re forced to deal with this.
Got to work early, so decided to have breakfast in the cafe off the lobby. Great big windows so I can watch the snowfall. Very peaceful way to start the day.
Morning all. Am awaiting the arrival of the carpet guy to re-stretch the carpet that got pulled up by the plumbers. Still waiting on tile guy to call and schedule and the handyman who will fix the wall should be here tomorrow, so there is a fair chance that by Thursday life will take on a semblance of normalcy (what that is). Heading for 72F today, much better than yesterday, and even warmer later in the week. Not much else on the agenda, soccer practice with the 6 year olds if the fields dry out enough. Have consumed my big bowl of cereal so am well-fed for the morning.
Well, as long as he doesn’t randomly wipe out half of all the music in the universe…
And have a good, albeit busy day.
Nettie, looks like it’s up to the individual stores, might drop by and ask if I can browse without buying just to get the feel of it.
boo fae, hope the hisses go away as she settles in. Enjoy (NOT) writing staff reviews.
FCM, sounds like a full day, happy meatloafing…
Pilot, this is Tuesday? I have trouble with the days until I look at my weekly list and she what I have checked off…
Piper, you can watch the snow all you want. I’ll watch the ground dry up here…
Hippie, enjoy the visit with BBBoo
And that’s it for the morning review. Carpet guy should be here in 15 minutes or so, and from there the day is open to possibilities..including the possibility that I’ll go back to bed. Take care all.
Short day, low volume, and looks like they cut a bunch of routes. But I guess I’d be hesitating on orders if I didn’t know if tomorrow’s headlines were gonna be “Advantageous new trade deals!” or “We nuked Tehran.”
I got home and instead of running to greet me, Spot was just sitting on the couch. In front of the Snoopy doll. In a pose reminiscent of the dog scene from The Shining
I once had a job where they made us do this, and I hated it. An employee writing their own review kind of misses the whole point of a review, doesn’t it? I always painted myself as a model employee, and I’m sure everyone else did too.
We had really high winds yesterday, and one of our trees out front is crooked. It’s a young tree and still has support poles to keep it standing. Mrs W thinks we can adjust the stakes ourselves to straighten it out. I doubt it, but I’ll indulge her; we’ll go out later and see what we can do.
That’s today’s excitement. I didn’t scrub the trash bins as planned yesterday, partly because of the wind and partly because they didn’t pick up until nearly 6 pm. And now there’s new trash in them, so it’ll have to wait at least another week. Darn.
Grapes, apples, shredded chicken, and fresh mayo were obtained last night, so as soon as I get my butt outta bed, I’ll stir up a quick chicken salad to take with.
I work open → close today, so it’ll be good to have something yummy, with protein, to snack on.
Bonus: healthy!
The Oracles predict “wintry mix” tonight (translation: “Cold, wet shit’s gonna come out of the sky. Format TBD.”) but weirdly, right now, there isn’t a single cloud in the azure sky.
Michigan weather takes some gettin’ used to!
Also, WTF did people do before weather forecasting - however imperfect it may be - became a thing?
(Narrator: “They were frequently, and often unpleasantly, surprised.”)
Also. Note to self: PAY RENT!!!
That’s a chore that’ll never make it onto my To-Do List!
In and out for a quick squish. I was a little concerned because the waiting room was so full when I arrived, but apparently the other folks were waiting for other stuff. So yay for me!
When I arrived (a bit early, so I sat in the parking lot) I saw a woman who’d apparently fallen getting out of her car or walking toward the building. There were 2 people with her and they were soon joined by nurses with a gurney and a back board, and they whisked her away (to the ER, I assume, but I didn’t watch that part of her journey.) As I walked into the building after she was gone, I saw blood on the asphalt and water where someone had apparently tried to rinse it away. And when I was passing thru the waiting room on my way out, there was a woman there complaining about someone pouring blood and water in the parking lot. It never occurred to her that someone might have gotten hurt and bled on the ground. Idiot.
I’m home. I decided to wait till tomorrow to do groceries since the new sales circular is posted tonight. Oh, and before my appointment, I had to run to the boat to get a few more dimensions, but I think I have enough now to finish laying out the starboard cloth. I hope. The old one that I wanted to use as a pattern is so stretched out, it’s close to useless.
So I’ll finish posting, then go back downstairs and try to finish my layout.
I’ve made the mistake of returning to the news of the day, a huge problem for my blood pressure. I have to regroup. So I’m making cookies as therapy today. And petting the cat. But not both at the same time. The cookie dough is resting for the moment, maybe another half hour.
One of my kids actually wished me a happy anniversary. I don’t recall any of them ever doing that before. I mean, it was in a PM, but still.
Wheelie, as I think I mentioned before, I don’t have any tree problems as I had them removed many years ago.
Carpet is back where it belongs and the Wal-Mart trip is completed, but I’m trying to work up the ambition to go to the gym, may have overdone things yesterday, but we’ll see. Weather is nice, so hopefully soccer will get practiced about 5:30pm.
And guess I’ll get myself over to the gym for a couple of hours..maybe…
My 81-year-old mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s seven or eight years ago. It’s been generally well managed, but she had gotten progressively less mobile and independent as time goes by. She lives in a mother-in-law apartment attached to my sister’s house in Vermont (I’m in Missouri), and that’s been working well so far.
My sister noted this past Christmas that she was showing some signs of cognitive decline. The day after Christmas she told me that she couldn’t find the puzzle I had given her. I didn’t give her a puzzle (I have her a coffee grinder).
Yesterday she commented on wife’s Facebook. It took her six attempts to get what she wanted to say, starting from “yg”, then “Ugh t” with a few more words each time until she got the whole thing out. I know this because each attempt was its own comment, and they’re all still there. This is a woman who was a programmer for NORAD and NASA in the 60s.
Looks like I need to plan some time in the Northeast.
I’m just popping in. (We’ll see if I can pop in without driveling endlessly.) Mr. Max was here yesterday. It was too hard to type in between throwing the ball and throwing the ball. It was definitely “Hit the all, drag George. Hit the ball, drag George.” Someone asked last week (I think) if I’m getting paid. I am. His person is on a fixed income and has medical issues, though, so I let her pay what she feels she can, and she doesn’t cheap out. Her MRI yesterday indicates she’s had a stroke at some point. She has balance issues and a bad hip, and her three kids don’t seem to pay her much attention.
My daughter left Sunday. We had SUCH a good time! We also had some good talks. She continues to stay no contact with her father. She could use some perspective from her big brother, but he hates to talk about it, so it’s hard getting him to open up. I’m SO glad she made the long drive here!
Oh, and I messed up last week. When I said, “They were great,” I was referring to the pastry shells, not the tartlets. I mean, they turned out OK, but I don’t like bragging. I could never do like those recipe sites that brag, “It took me 27 tries to get these cookies to delicate, golden brown, buttery perfection. My kids call them Nobel Prize cookies, they’re so good!”
