(Old) April Showers bringing May Flowers in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! It rained/stormed this mornin’, but this afternoon was all sunshine and blue skies. We day drank out beside the cee-mint pond and discussed the idea of assemblin’ the four new chairs I purchased for the bar (there’s a bar under the gazebo out beside the cee-mint pond cause we’re all fancy and classy) which are still in the box settin’ on the back porch at some point, but not right now. We then broke fast for sup. All in all a pleasant day here at da cave.

Pilot sounds like the move is umm… movin’ right along. Hope all goes as expected today.

red enjoy your visit with sis. We are not havin’ a cicada problem here, but they have cranked up in Ye Olde Home Towne. Sis says they are everywhere.

Die I don’t have drapes, but I have those curtain topper thingys throughout da cave. I was just thinkin’ a couple of days ago how they need to make a trip to the dry cleaner.

RealFish glad you found the will. Stuff will get sorted out eventually. Small steps and all that.

doggio I sometimes see the Brown jet fly over da cave on its way to the local airport. The FedEx one flies over as well, but I can’t distinguish it from other planes. The big brown one stands out.

Nellie the instructions are right. Some ass is required for a bar stool.

I’m sweeping up the dead critters.

Chores are all done and I’m relaxing a bit waiting for Sis. She’s running a little behind because she got caught up in a traffic back up just east of Memphis.

I napped. Spot cleaned my head. I’m having Cajun catfish stew, and in a spirt of ecumenicalism with swampy, a gin&tonic.

This is pretty much a subplot in Douglas Adam’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

I seem to be slowly taking over a new position I don’t really want to have with the school district. I’m perfectly willing to come in and build shit, but I don’t want to get involved in any of the political BS. Somebody needs to take this stuff to where it’s needed, IDGAF, just get it there so I can put it back together.

The director of this department is a real C***, she has told both me, a part time employee, and a 14-yearold student, to move multiple thousand dollars worth of equipment that do not yet belong to the district. Which is obviously a terrible idea.

I originally started there working with a buddy I’ve known for 25 years, his wife is currently going through terrible cancer related crap. But I never signed up to take on his job.

I just wanna go back to my own space and build my own weird shit.

Rant over…

JtC Glad GG took to the drugs well. Maybe you could send me some? Seems I’m getting a little antsy.

I meant to update awhile ago; procrastination is my biggest flaw.
Okay, so I dated this loser Oct to early Jan of this past winter.
Aside from an amazing amount of flaws which led me to dump him, for the first month we slept together, he never made a move.
So I felt undesirable.
After I extracated myself, I went to visit my ex, to fix that undesirable feeling.
He had my take him down the street to a hotel, he paid, we went to BWW to eat and had sex.
So I felt desirable again, but I wasn’t attracted to him anymore. How could I be when he was unable to tell a nurse I wasn’t his mom, but his girlfriend last year.
I stopped taking his calls.
So he calls me last week after 4 months. He wants to see me again.
Between January and now I had come to an epiphany, I don’t Need a man to be happy.
I am done been used for sex. If a man doesn’t marry you, hes using you.
I know you all disagree but that won’t change my mind.
I was settling, didn’t think I deserved better.
Since I have realized I don’t want a boyfriend or husband or sex, I finally. After most of my life, am happy.
Way happy.
I should’ve decided this 30 years ago!
I am celibate, abstinate and actually have self esteem at my ripe old age.

Friday Date ‘Night’. (Or ‘Date Afternoon’.) We went down the beach to Bay Breeze. We started with Bang Bang Shrimp Salad (Breaded-and-fried shrimps with Mexican-style fish sauce, romaine lettuce, avocado, mango bits, & green onions). Wifey had her usual smoked salmon pasta, and I had my usual pan-roasted rockfish w/ asparagus. We each had two drinks (me: 2 Manhattans, her: a Mermaid Water (Barcardi, Captain Morgan, Malibu, pineapple, lime, Blue Curacao) and a Manhattan). We settled in to watch some Season 8 episodes of Death In Paradise. The lead actor looked and sounded familiar. It turns out he played the dim-witted Father Dougal in Father Ted.

So… Fish. I had a tin of kippers for lunch yesterday, then we had pesto-butter salmon with fresh dill for dinner. Today I had rockfish. We still have a couple of pieces of salmon left, but I have a feeling SWMBO won’t want it tomorrow. I’m thinking of making ceviche this weekend, using my Mexican cow-orker’s recipe. We have some catfish in the freezer, but The Missus said it was ‘mushy’ (Hers was breaded and fried.) Mine, baked in a hot cast-iron frying pan with Cajun seasoning, was fine. I’m guessing I’ll ‘have to’ finish off the catfish.

I’d rather send you some edibles, GG’s drugs were EXPENSIVE, LOL.

I sure do hope you get the work thing gets sorted and I’m glad you are smart enough to not accept the liability for possibly damaging the potentially stolen equipment.

Are the roads messed up due to the horrible weather or was it just typical traffic?

OK, that wasn’t really very fair, driving through that area was so much nicer now that the major construction is done. But…rush hour traffic is rush hour traffic so…yanno.

Hubs just learned about a small term life insurance policy his dad had. Thank goodness we have all of our papers in order, he will get everything notarized and sent off on Monday.

It’s not a whole lot of pennies, but we are moving so we are poor. We will take all of the pennies we can find!

I am super frustrated for you. Your hobbit house wasn’t built around the fridge, the fridge moved into the house.

We are going to donate our cooling vests…unless someone here wants them.

They are for bikers, you soak them in water and then go for a ride. It really did help when riding when it was over 90F, but we won’t be needing them in WV. If anyone wants them speak now or forever hold your peace.

I’m glad you had this epiphany, if it brings you peace & joy!

You’re gonna grow gills, man.

Late close, very tired, Monkey has the zoomies & is being annoying when I just wanna decompress. Blah, blah, usual post-Long Night whine to go with my cheese.

Cranky Oven Master called out, so Car(e)less Co-worker was asked to stay late instead of being early out.
When I overhead, I thought, “Betcha he stays all the way to close.”
Turns out, he thought the same thing.

Which I know, cuz he told me, when I gave him a lift home.

After he closed with us.

Had a pair of elderly ladies place one of the weirder orders of the night: a shrimp dinner (we fry a surprising amount of seafood for a pizza joint, but I think someone orders the butterfly shrimp maybe once or twice a month?) and her companion wanted a gluten-free, with black olives & green olives AND THAT’S IT that was her whole pizza, just this olive abomination, no other toppings.

I definitely remembered them & their order when they pulled back up to get it, which I think flattered them.

… shhhhh. Nobody tell 'em why my trash can memory really recalled them.

No cheese? No sauce? This does sound pretty revolting.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It is currently 58 degrees(ferret height) here. I wonder what the chaos level will be today?

After 20 some years in management, I feel ya.

We are happy you are happy.

But it would be worth it to see GG and VanGo in the back of the car purring at each other and staring at the dome light.

Band name!
I like olives, but that just sounds weird.

Sorry, to clarify, yes there was sauce’n’chz on hers. Just … nothing else.
No other vegetables, no chicken, just … a shitload of olives.

On a side note, I have made a few no-sauce, several no-cheese, and at least one no sauce/no cheese, which is basically a large, round cracker with burnt veggies on it.

Peeps be weird.

I actually tend to favor light-to-no sauce myself. Never said I wasn’t weird ;).

All of the above. When they are done for the year, there are heaps of them. Fortunately, they are mostly around trees. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with with piles of bugs. We were in Cleveland some years back - the piles of dead midges is disconcerting.

:face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: Hope your source calls you back so you can help your friend.

Rather disappointing. Actually, very disappointing. I presume the fridge came with the house, so the owner should know it needs special attention to get it out the door

I am always learning so much from these threads. I would have never thought of wondering where the death certificates for my grandmother is. Maybe I should ask my dad now if he still has a copy. The other grandparents don’t matter - they either had nothing, or in the case of my paternal grandfather, went to my grandmother.

Spending a day without any goals except eating and drinking sounds like a specialy treat.

Context is everything.

Sounds like this is the best solution for your own stress level. What happens if you keep telling her “no” when she asks you to do things which are not your responsibility?

Just the olives? My nephew would have scarfed it down. He had some weird issues with pepperoni when he was younger, but he loved/loves olives.

Actually, it’s almost like a olive foccaccia. How’s the gluten-free crust?

And now that I’ve linked to that recipe, I think I might try it. Have to go see what I have for olives. [ETA, I now see that there’s cheese and sauce, but I’m still considering making foccaccia.]

Going to go for a light hike today, to try out my new shoes. Mostly flat, along the Kleine Emme. After that, there’s some garden work to do. A bit of weeding, and also fertilizing and watering. There’s always something.

Happy Saturday!

Blurf.

Fantastic.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. That’s a cool day for this time of year in these parts. We may or may not go to the bar down the road for a burger and a beer. If not, any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc. Sloth, general overall use**lessness, nappage, and day drinkin’, as is our wont, are also on the agenda.

Coppertone the important point is that you are happy. I am happy that you are happy.

shoe people be weird and so are their pizzas sometimes. Hope the fridge problem gets resolved soonest.

VanGo hope it all settles down and you get to just build stuff as is your wont.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

It’s May 11 and the morning temp was 46-unbelieveably-stoopit-degrees!!! It got down to 67° in the house because I’d turned the furnace off, and if MIL didn’t live here, I wouldn’t have turned it on today. But she’s always cold, so the house is heating up a bit.

Terrible, terrible night. None of my usual tricks helped me get to sleep. I was cold, and literally rolled in an afghan under the sheet and blanket, but I was still cold. Hope I’m not coming down with something. Dammit. I even wore socks last night! And I didn’t get up till nearly 7 - that’s sleeping in for me.

I need to do some serious housecleaning today - TX SIL will be here Tues, and looking around, well, I need to de-clutter and run a mop around. So I shall. I did rollsuck yesterday, and I’ll do that again on Moanday. And theoretically, it’ll be sunny and mid-60s today, so I may transplant some seedlings. Or maybe wait till Moanday when the next 2 chilly nights are past.

AuntB called FCD last night - for whatever reason, she’s getting him in the middle of the should-she-or-shouldn’t-she-visit debate. All he’s supposed to do is transport, not make any decisions. He knows his mom wants to see his sister, but he also knows AuntB’s guest bath is not handicap-friendly. I’m not getting involved - not my circus, etc.

FCD was talking to Daughter yesterday, getting her ready for her interview, since he’s done that a lot more than she has, and she’s never interviewed for a gummint contractor before. The one part I would be no help with but he is regards salary. She’s been out of work long enough, she’ll take anything. He’s trying to teach her to ask for what she thinks she’s worth. Since I was a Fed forever, I just accepted that the pay scale was what it was, so I’m no help there. He’s also going to help her put together a portfolio to show how she meets the criteria of the job - another thing I’d not have thought of. She and her crew are coming to dinner on Moanday - I’m sure they’ll discuss things further then, and probably on Tues also.

I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about that stuff any longer. Viva Retirement!!!

Happy Saturday!!

Hmmm, didn’t post last afternoon/evening, must have been busier than I thought. Did get my swimming in, then coached soccer (we lost our makeup game 6-10, were missing several players) and came home to vegetate. Up at 6am but for once I do not have an early (8am) game, don’t have to be out there until 9:30, but guess my body is used to the early rising on Saturday now. Do have time to enjoy a bowl or two of cereal and should be out until at least 3pm, so a fairly active day. And a nice one, no rain in sight and 63F heading to 75F.

Haven’t had any cicadas to sweep up but the last few days there has been a constant sound, like water dripping down a rain gutter, outside and I wonder if that has been them.

Now to catch up with the last 24 hours…

Real Fish, take it with small steps, it’ll get done. Best wishes.

shoe, a real mystery how they got that refrigerator in the house in the first place. Hope somebody (like the owner) can figure it out. Glad the bats have returned to your belfry (or at least close to it).

nellie, 86F anywhere is pretty warm, in your neck of the woods it’s probably doubly so. Take care.

Cat Glove, sounds like a pretty hectic day. Hope you were able to soothe Best Friend, sounds like she’s in over her head.

Oopsie, I’m sure whoever you hire will be a good worker. Have fun working out!

swampy, it’s always nice to plan on doing something…later.

VanGo, I can see some of her reasoning, it the material doesn’t yet legally belong to the district, but dumping the responsibility on you with no coverage or compensation is not cool at all. Hope you can get back to the work you like.

Coppertone, thanks for telling us your story. DO what is comfortable for you and your life, and be happy.

FCM, hope it warms up for you. House here is down to 73F and I’m feeling a bit cold myself. And if it’s a federal job, I don’t know how flexible the pay/salary will be.

OK, need to break my fast and do a couple things before getting ready for soccer day. This is ‘paint my beard’ day for the 7 year olds and they seem excited about it. Have a good one all.

It’s a contractor - and I know the job showed a range, not a set salary. We shall see.

ETA - MIL set her alarm for 7 - over an hour ago. She’s still sleeping. Don’t know why she bothers…

This just isn’t right. Hospice is supposed to help alleviate workload and worry/anxiety. And making you a bit on edge not knowing when/if someone is going to come doesn’t make for tranquility for you. Isn’t there someone you can speak to about this lack of timely communication or a normality of schedule?
In the meantime :people_hugging:

pilot sounds like things went well with the move yesterday albeit with a lot of activity and effort. Soon you’ll be able to relax in your new abode.

metal mouse I so know it about the sun showing up early. yesterday I woke at 5:40 and hopped right in the shower; when I got out just shy of 6, it was totally bright. Before daylight savings time that meant it would have been total daylight at/before 5am. yeesh. I’m betting you likely earned more fuel points yesterday than I did. With last week’s huge purchases I only spent $31 mostly on liquids (24 pk of coke, LF milk for Hubs, 1% milk for me, another gallon of Milo’s Sweet Tea & Lemonade) and fruit and earned 124 points; I’ve accumulated 961 pts for May; still have 1325 remaining from April.

I agree that it makes sense to have the Hunks put the bed together.

same.

Received return call and she had a copy of the needed legal document in her files. She’s emailing it to my friend. She also shared that she doesn’t think an original will be needed if friend writes out a letter and has it notarized. She told me I should speak to the manager about that. He’s been a friend for about 24 years and I’ve helped him out from time to time so I have my fingers crossed that an original won’t be needed. Then I called my friend and she is so relieved.

Scraped the fish tank and added algaefix. Then checked the pH and it was low so added pH^ then added water to tank. Lastly filled the water bucket and put water conditioner in it so that it’s ready for next time water level is low.

hmm. typed a bit of a risque response but didn’t want any pearl clutching to commence.

concur.

well for no cheese, perhaps not weird, just lactose intolerant

FCM I didn’t check what the temp was when I first woke up but it’s 57 now, totally overcast, it rained earlier and just seems rather gloomy. The house got down to 68 so made a cup of tea.

Best wishes to daughter on her interview. Great that she has FCD as a resource to help her prepare.

I should have gotten up right when I woke up but I forgot about Rafa’s match. When I came down, the Pole had just won the 1st set so I watched the 2nd set. While Rafa did better than the first set, the Pole also won the 2nd so that concluded the match. Rafa will be 38 later this month and with his age and all his injuries, he’s no longer at the top of his game; he still hits brilliant shots from time to time.

Well, need to shevel and get about the tasks of the day.

Annie has a sad tummy today. I’ve even given her the meds that are the standard ‘fix’ and she’s still refusing to eat and making gurgling noises. :disappointed: Right now we’re just chilling.
