(Old) April Showers bringing May Flowers in the MMP

Fifty-eight-stoopit-degrees in my back yard. I’m glad I closed up the house last night, except for one bedroom window left open about an inch. It’s also overcast and dreary, and wet, so it did rain overnight.

I started my day with a big spill next to my recliner - I was reaching around a glass but I hadn’t turned on the light and I misjudged. Luckily, it was just water, so now I’ll have a clean spot on the carpet! I figure it’s a 4-load washday. It’s also 4 days till TX SIL gets here, so I need to dig out some extra towels and give the bathroom a good cleaning. (Translation - get all the dog hair out of the corners…)

MIL mentioned going to Cracker Barrel for supper tonight. She thinks she’s doing me a favor so I don’t have to cook. But the last few times we went to CB, it was extremely meh and I just don’t want to go. If she’s adamant, maybe I can get FCD to take her on a date and I’ll dine home alone. Besides, it’s easier for me to keep to my food plan when I cook myself. We shall see.

Today is also MIL’s shower day - the aide will be coming sometime. We don’t know her schedule till she calls - not that we have a lot going on here. I don’t know if anyone else from hospice will be coming - we had a visit by a nurse on Weds and last week, a social worker came by. I know the nurse is to come weekly, but I’m not sure about the social worker. And the aide comes twice a week for showers. It’s convenient and it’s not - we can’t completely plan our days till we hear from one of them. Then again, we don’t have a whole lot going on right now.

I tried out my new glasses this morning. They’re OK. They’ll be my backup specs, because I really prefer the ones I got from Zenni. And I’m starting a search for a new eye doc. I still haven’t decided - we’ll see what kind of response I get back from my complaint about this most recent fiasco. But there are a couple of promising options not too far away. We shall see come February/March next year.

We’re looking for more rain today and tonight, but tomorrow I may be able to get my seedlings transplanted to the new bed. Beyond that, who knows??

Happy Firday!!

Most joint replacement recovery is at least that long. Even though I get around easily and have no pain after ten months, my surgeon told me two years for complete recovery from knee replacement.

:people_hugging: It will turn out well I am sure

Good morning.

It’s currently 51 degrees Fahrenheit with clear skies outside. It will be sunny all day with a high temperature of around 83 degrees Fahrenheit.

I need to scrub out the bird bath and bird water dish and refill them this morning, along with watering my posies. I’ll be doing that around seven or eight this morning.

cupcakes, I’m sending you gentle hugs and hoping for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery.

kitten mitten. I’m glad your husband hired someone to take care of the lawn, and good on you for setting some boundaries regarding a vegetable garden. It’s another thing to take care of, and you have so much on your plate right now.

FCM, I’m so glad your daughter has an interview lined up. Panel interviews have been going on for quite some time now. As an interviewee, I’m not a fan. It does feel a little intimidating. I’ve also been a panel member, and I understand why panel interviews are popular. Different sets of eyes and ears are needed to hear or see something you might miss, and different areas of expertise are needed to assess how the applicant might fit and how an applicant deals with different people within the job. We usually have standard questionnaires, and each panel member takes turns asking questions and following up with more if the answers are unclear or don’t even address the question. So many applicants do that, but sometimes it’s just nerves.

I’m sending my best “get the job vibes” to your daughter, FCM.

I’ll soon be sitting on a panel for the new MPA.

I was planning on driving to my favorite nursery after I got my haircut yesterday, but the traffic was just stupid, and I didn’t feel like fighting all of that, so I came straight home.

I thought Buster’s paw was doing a little better, but I accidently nudged it yesterday evening, and it’s apparent it was still causing him pain. So, I’ll be calling the vet today.

I have a lot of work to do today, but I hope it doesn’t turn into another 11—or 12-hour day. I just don’t want to work that long today, especially since the weather will be so nice. It’s supposed to be my eight-hour day, but I honestly feel I’m going to be slogging away until 5:30 p.m., and I’ll be starting at 5:30 a.m., just so I can get through some of my emails unmolested by urgent team messages and pleas to call people.

But if, by some miracle, things go more smoothly than I am anticipating, maybe I’ll sneak out to the nursery during lunch. I never actually take lunch, but maybe I’ll do that today.

Alrighty, I need to finish my coffee and finish loading the dishwasher. Sending my best to all of you.

Hi folks.

As to y’all I can’t say it better than Taters just did; those were the comments I intended to write.

As to me …
Fast and furious yesterday too. Had to slightly unload truck at Mike’s to ensure I could fit the patio furniture. Got that timely, back to Mike’s, managed to reload everything I removed and then some. Leaving absolutely nothing at Mike’s. Hooray!

The internet / “cable TV” guy was early, the movers slightly late. They finished in the expected duration though, and now the place is a mountain of boxes. Which I attacked until late at night, hauling quite a few of them to our recycling room. Just another 15-ish to go. Some vexations, but overall OK. In the middle of a monster “some assembly required” project right now.

Found out the mattress is coming today = Fri morning, so soon. The furniture is Fri late afternoon as I’d requested, and the TV delivery is delayed a week due to (supposedly) some personal crisis w the delivery man.

Ran myself out of calories last night and just ate a huge high-powered breakfast. Letting it settle now then I’ll return the UHaul truck then back to boxes and supervising deliveries.

Happy impending weekend to those on a conventional schedule.

Cheers all!!

And extra {{HUGS}} to ** Cupcake**

Morning all. Up at 0600 today, darn sun is showing up to early these days. Need to do my Friday Kroger run and get those fuel points, and have soccer tonight (makeup game for the 7 year olds), with swimming maybe in-between, and we’ll see about the rest of it. Only getting to the mid-70’s today, the storms have cooled things down a bit, nut we’ll be back in the 80’s next week. Did talk to my brother last night and wished him a happy 70th birthday, they (he and Sis-in-Law) were fussing about my heath while I’m doing much better than the both of them.

Oopsie, hope the person you eventually hire works out well. And might be worth the extra dollars to have the Hunks put the bed together, simple job or not.

I would attend that concert…

Cupcakes, hoping the surgery fixes what ails you and recovery is smooth.

FCM, amazes me that 90+ year old MIL doesn’t seem to mind 10-12 hour car trips; those wear me down and I’m younger and in better health than her. Still, if she wants to do it (and you get a break), it’s worth doing. Haven’t been on a job interview in so many years I’ve forgotten what it is like, but best wishes again to your daughter.

Cat Glove, glad things are on the upswing with Hubs. And good on him for getting local mowage set up; do all you can but don’t overdo is my motto.

JtC, glad GG does well on drugs (wait, what? ).

boo fae, hope the camp is not as rowdy and controversial as the ones our campuses have been experiencing.

Howdy, Sticky Buns. No idea what you wanted to say, I use both the stationary ‘bicycle
style’ pedaling machine and the ‘sit-down’ version, usually for 20-30 minutes at a go on a relatively high setting and get maximum sweatage from it.

Taters, best wishes for Buster. And you need to be planning some time off, those 12-hour days are stacking up.

Pilot, some assembly required is among the most terrifying phrases in the English language. Glad the move went so smoothly , thought.

OK, just waiting for all the kids to get to school then will dress and do the morning shopping. Have a good Firday all.

Sounds like me after a gummy! :stuck_out_tongue: I’m glad he tolerated the drug well.

I’ve always had good experiences with the optometrists that set up shop at Wally World and the folks who fit glasses there are very good (and this coming from someone who doesn’t like Wally’s for much of anything else).

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted a load of clothes in the dryer and fixing to start houseirk. Sis is on her way up and is slated to be here around seven this evening. I need to finish houseirk, pick up a prescription, get a CO2 cartridge replacement, shop for groceries and sweep the cicadas off the patio and walkway before then.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Glad they’re got you in so fast. My dad had his done in January was driving again in mid-April (maybe earlier, not sure).

This is definitely good news.

That’s sorta how the kitchen floor gets clean. Eventually all the clean spots merge, so I just have to clean the corners.

Sounds like the move is going very well. Congrats on getting settled after many months of chaos.

red I was trying to explain cicadas to someone who’s never experienced them. I forgot about having to literally have to sweep them up.

This morning I went to the gym while hubby went to his guitar lesson. After he got back we took the curtains to the dry cleaner. They will drop them off next Thursday, so we don’t have to fight afternoon traffic.

Made a blueberry cake for tomorrow’s breakfast and chicken fajitas for lunch. Then we went to the mall and I finally got some new shoes for walking.

Still need to make the hamburger patties for tomorrow and figure out what we need to go for a hike/walk tomorrow. Gotta break in the new shoes, right?

Just a quick stopping by. I’m at my dad’s house with Hubby, trying to find important paperwork. There have been some tests, and some cursing (Dad was a pack rat but didn’t always have the important stuff somewhere I can find it.) I was originally planning on being here for several hours. Now I don’t think I can. I found the will, I’m bringing his lsptop and phone home to get the information from there that I need. But I’m finding there’s so much more to do that I never realized. And I’m getting a little overwhelmed. I’ll make it through - I’ve got a wonderful support system. But it doesn’t mean it’s easy. (I know. Preaching to the choir.)

So it started out as a slow day, but that’s because the Richmond Ground and the Air were late. Then I was loading on 200. One car on Bottom Green, then over to help on the one car on Bottom Red. Which was a disaster. And the driver went to get his Sup, Who decided the residential Irregs could be Someone Else’s Problem. But not my circus, not my monkeys.

PEACE NOW AT A REASONABLE TIME IN THE AFTERNOON! :peace_symbol:

Sometyhing about lap poodles?

Hope Buster’s paw isn’t too bad, Taters

Trust me, the driver want’s to get rid of that 116lbs. monstrosity ASAP.

Went out on the terrace this afternoon and planted the new herb garden. It’s used mainly by the kitchen, but residents can also harvest. Also pot-planted our tomatoes. One cherry and one Celebrity medium sized, which already has a flower on it from sitting in the apartment window. That terrace gets lots of sun, so we get pretty good results. Next up, the gardening committee will be planting annuals and making things purty.

Dawter is coming over tomorrow for a visit. Then my former DIL and my grandson are coming tomorrow evening; we’ll be attending a John Pizzarelli concert.

Up & waiting for fridge removal guys. Tossing Monkey some treats to chase, to keep him occupied since I’m keeping 'im indoors ( ) to hopefully be able to quickly scoop up & corrall him if/when the Noisy Strange Scary men show up.

Noshing on some fridge remnants meanwhile. Pilot and FCM I can confirm, melty ice cream is quite tasty, especially for breakfast! (Hey, it had bits of real strawberries in it - it’s healthy, dammit!)

There’s off & on rain predicted by our local Oracles for the upcoming end of days, but for right now, there’s not a cloud to be seen in a sapphire sky, and some bird right by my door is singing “Chew chew chew chew chew!” over and over.
(Anyone have any ideas what it might be?)

My seedlings are growing so lushly, and since I fed the rats most of the bird/squirrel food, I haven’t had any marauding visitors digging stuff up. (Sorry/not sorry.)

Oh, I think I’ll go post in the gardening thread. Not much else to do while I’m stuck at home, plus I was playing around with the camera on my new phone and it can get some stunning snaps.
Haven’t gotten the p.w. reset for Google Home, though, to be fair, I haven’t actually, yanno, tried again.
I have a low threshold for frustration and have had other things to do. Will try again, later.

I’m guessing you hafta do the driving. Loads different when you can simply sleep through the trip.

Is it the shells (hulls?) they molt from that need sweeping? Or the dead bugs themselves? (I understand they don’t live long after mating.) Or are you sweeping live bugs?
I know they’re harmless, but the thought of the last one gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I’m glad you took a break to stop in with us. Just do what you can, honey - the rest will be there for another day.

Heh.

ETA: oh, I forgot to share!!! Wednesday night I sat outside right at twilight, and saw the pair of bats from last year, for the 1st time!! I’m almost certain it’s the same ones - they roost in a massive oak next door, and circle the clear space over my yard for a few minutes just as dusk settles before taking off in a straight line heading north towards a nearby creek.

MIL slept till nearly noon, but she can still barely stay awake. The aide is due within an hour or so for her shower. She’s just finishing with her laundry - putting it all away.

Frankly, I think she’s totally in denial about such a long drive and based on a phone call FCD had with AuntB, I doubt the trip will happen after all. Chances are she’d sleep most of the drive, like she sleeps most of the day here. But AuntB was concerned about her getting up at night for the toilet - there are no grab bars in their guest bathroom and the master bath is on the other side of the house. Unless she has 24-hour assistance, there’s just no way. Plus FCD said he doesn’t want to be on I-70 with his mother’s dead body in the car… :open_mouth: Based on several things, I think that is a possibility.

On the plus side, laundry is finally done and stowed. And I’m pretty sure CB will not be mentioned. I think I’ll find some fish in the freezer for supper. Still overcast and dreary and I’m about to resume the recline position until the aide gets here.

Ugh. We went from spring to Hades in three days. High today is supposed to be 86º. I know to some of you Southerners, that sounds like winter, but I don’t do well with heat and don’t have central air. I also inadvertently slept late today and thus missed the cool early morning weather.

Son and DIL are coming tomorrow for an early Mother’s Day celebration. Maybe we can play checkers with ice cubes. My son is cooking, and they’ve already warned me I won’t be allowed to help clean up. Sigh. I’ll just have to play with the dogs.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a pop-up, light-up card for a friend’s birthday. Amazon shipped it in the same box as the andirons heavy skillet I’d ordered. Well, it pops but doesn’t light or play music. Amazon is refunding my money but I have to return the card, which I think is funny. The cost of having the UPS Store package and send it will be more than the card cost me. Maybe Chet in Quality Control can send it to his cat or something.

Good for you! Removing one source of stress should make the whole move less onerous. I’m excited for you!

I don’t burn easily, but heat plus sun triggers auto-immune crap, and I feel like I’ve been a Happy Meal for a flock of vampires.

Why do you have our weather, and when can you send it back?
Also, I know you hate Costco, but their optical department is supposed to be pretty good.

Whoa! Thanks so much for that info! I’ve been so focused on the giant bunion that’s supposed to magically disappear by the one-year-mark that I kind of assumed the whole knee would be back to normal by then. This gives me hope that maybe I’ll continue to improve.

We did that in my district, and I hated it. We were supposed to stick to the questions on the form–no follow-up questions or requests for clarification–so when an applicant messed up, that was it. We had one applicant for principal who kept standing up and hiking up his pants over his big belly. I so badly wanted to ask him if he lived in a van down by the river. Maybe it was a good thing I couldn’t.

I hope Buster’s paw is OK.

pilot, a hearty woo-hoo on being totally out of your pal’s place! Good luck on the assembly. I once ordered a bar stool whose description included, “Some ass required.”

Free ear plugs to the first 5 ticket purchasers! (We’re only expecting 4. Nugget’s mom’s garage won’t hold more than that when the Ranchero’s in there.)

That’s good to hear. It would be miserable if GG was not relaxed on the trip. I’m glad you found a solution.

It was 47* when I left to walk to the office. No matter, I was comfortable, I wore a thin pair of yoga pants and some warmer hiking pants then 2 Tshirts and a uniform blouse with my merino wool IBEX jacket. First time I’ve walked this year and I walked with my buddy, the former Pension Administrator.

Man, some of the transactions for Wednesday were pretty goofed up on the software so that it appeared a clerk was over Cash wise by about $150 and also over on Checks by about $50. The manager was stymied so asked for help. I figured it out and when all was said and done, the clerk was short $3 cash. Part of it was the software recording 2 checks of $272 at $200 by showing cash back of $72@; the other problem was that the clerk had taken a check for $272 and never put it through the register. Also there was some weirdness with gift cards. I also spotted that several transactions were rung up to the incorrect revenue code. Took me twice as long as normal to get that cash receipts group entered. One of the guys gave me a ride home.

Currently are putting together the Kroger shopping list; after last week’s humungous purchase, there’s barely half a dozen items on this week’s list.

Best Friend called crying because she’s overwhelmed. Her husband is back in the hospital and she also needs to find a legal document for another purpose and she thought I might be able to help her. Sometimes it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and I know some people. Unfortunately the woman I need to speak to is in a meeting with a vendor so left message for her to call me.

Hubs just asked that I check on the fish tank; it’s been about 2+ weeks since I’ve done so, so I best get on that. TTYL.

I don’t hate it - I just hate hearing about it over and over and over and over…

Aide done been and gone. FCD got his mom her Cracker Barrel dinner to go. I pulled out some salmon to thaw for my (and his?) dinner. Mostly lazy day, tho.

Do you have any bandanas or kerchiefs? My S.M. taught me a trick last summer: get 'em soaking but not dripping wet, then stash in the freezer. Tie one on (heh) once they’re frozen solid. Instant cool head relief.

I also not only snack on those cheapie popsicles that are just colored sugar water in a plastic tube, I occasionally put one into my bra. Works a treat.

So to speak.

So the fridge guys came, they saw … they did not conquer.
Behemoth is still in the kitchen.
He kept measuring & saying, “Your door is 29 but the fridge is 30. I don’t know how they got it in here.”

Me: “Well, it’s in here. I didn’t wave a magic wand or anything.”

They recommended the same College Hunks mentioned upthread - said the house door frame trim will hafta be removed.
(Yes, they took off the fridge/freezer doors & I took off my own house door. They really did try.)

Now I gotta shift gears for Long Night, uh, shift. Bringing with me the ultra-healthy combo of a chocolate chip muffin and a Salisbury steak frozen thingie.
Plus I have Lifesaver gummies stashed in the fridge at work, for later. Man, I hope nobody ate them (all - I don’t mind sharing).

Off I go.

the only advise i have, is to get way more death certificates than you think you need. i ended up using 23 out of 24 certificates. my mother did not have a lot of loose ends, but the requests for a certified certificates were unbelievable.

i did not get any back. some places said “we will send it back to you”, nope, they did not.

i have one left at this time.

“TGIF” is such an understatement today/this week…

A couple hours ago I wrapped up interview #8 (in three days). Only one of today’s candidates was an easy “no,” and that was just because her salary ask is way too high/she’s way more senior than the position calls for. I’m actually kind of surprised she applied for a role with “junior” in the title. Anyway, I thought I’d easily be able to narrow it down to two candidates (promising upstart vs more expensive/experienced), but it turns out there are two promising upstarts. With different strengths. My boss is OOO today, so on Monday I’ll discuss the options with him and make a decision. And two of the other candidates are perfectly viable backup options, so hopefully we’ll be able to get one of those five folks by the end of next week. :crossed_fingers:

My normal personal training days are Tuesdays (evenings) and Saturdays (mornings), but this week my trainer asked if I could go tonight instead of tomorrow. I need to change and head to the gym shortly. It actually works out better for me, because now I won’t feel rushed before the College Hunks arrive tomorrow. And, starting next weekend we’re changing my Saturday workouts from 10am to 12pm at my request: turns out I really miss having slow/quiet Saturday mornings. I think noon will be a much better time for me going forward.

I think that’s going to vary company by company; and, at large companies like BAE (which is where I happen to work  ) it will vary contract by contract – and even sometimes position by position. The interviews I held this week were all 1:1, but some of our technical positions often have at least 2-person panels. And it’s my call as to whether I’d want a second interview (I don’t).

Smart!

Woo hoo!

I missed the announcement of which place you chose…?

:people_hugging: For at least some of the stuff that needs to be done, there will be no hurry: there is nothing wrong with bite-sized “to do” lists, or taking a while to get to some parts!

Nice!

Seconded. And hang onto a few even after you think all is said and done. When my mom died I didn’t need as many as rocking_chair, but I did need more than expected.

Indeed. My mother turned out to have a life insurance policy none of us knew about. She got it before she married, my grandmother was the beneficiary.

It was 7 years after my mother passed, and my grandmother passed in 1971. I needed both death certificates. Luckily in my mother’s papers she had my grandmother’s certificate. This was in 2014.

You never know.
