High point of the day: my coffee order arrived. Other than that, I’ve done fuck-all.
Just popped back in in case cupcake posted. Her doctor’s appointment was today, wasn’t it?
WetOne, are you healing OK?
shoe, you’re very sweet.
Afternoon all. Got some pedaling in and watched some more soccer on the TV. Just checked and they have closed the soccer fields today, so no makeup game for us. Hopefully they will be open tomorrow so my U8 team can play. Of course it’s 84F and very nice outside right now, which makes one forget how wet it was just 6-8 hours ago…
Need to call my brother this evening, it’s his 70th birthday today so need to say howdy and check in on him. Might go back to the gym for a second bit of work, we’ll see how it goes.
Dicey, you can always find something on TV; finding something watchable on TV is the trick. Good luck.
FCM, took me a day or so to adjust to my new pair, hope the message did some good. And I still have to empty my dishwasher… But good wishes and hopes for Daughter.
What she said.
OK, need to decide how to organize my evening with no soccer in it. Take care all.

Happy Thursday evening! It has felt like Friday ever since Monday, so I’m super happy that tomorrow will finally actually be Friday.
I held interviews #4 and #5 today: one candidate was a definite “pass” (as was one of yesterday’s), and the other is currently in 3rd place. There are three more scheduled for tomorrow; I should be able to make a decision as soon as the last one is over (~3pm). I have a tentative first choice, so it’s just a matter of seeing whether any of tomorrow’s candidates are better.
The new bed frame was delivered a little while ago! It’s supposed to be a simple, no-tools-required assembly; the video on Amazon looks straightforward enough. I also ordered a headboard pillow, but that won’t arrive until early next week. I wish the new dog bed would ship already – it’s been on backorder for 2 weeks now – but I guess it will get here when it gets here. I’m kind of psyched for the College Hunks to get here on Saturday and take the loveseat and current bed frame (and box spring) away. I’ll have them start with the bedroom stuff, so I can start putting the new frame together while they’re still around in case I need help. Or, I might just ask them to add the assembly labor to their quote when they get here.
I see ads for those things a lot, but honestly they don’t appeal to me at all.
HA!
So true, so true…
Unfortunately, the new dog bed won’t be in reach when I’m on the couch. Bailey has never been a snuggler or a lap dog, but I miss being able to pat her head or a leg/paw from time to time as she lays next to me on the couch. (*sigh*)
Ack, thank you for the reminder that a book I’m interested in was released on Tuesday! I just sent a sample to my Kindle!
Howdy Y’all! Been a rainy/stormy afternoon, but not like it has been in some places. Looks like tonight and tomorrow will also be stormy. We et N.O.L. at the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet place and then returned to da cave for nappage. Then we day drank out on the back porch whilst watchin’ a storm, which is a favorite passtime for us. The temp has dropped to 78 Amurrkin. BRRR!
Taters hope son recovers from the dental surgery soonest and that Buster is OK. Good for you for takin’ some time off irk to get the do did.
Doggio we Whiskypalians also celebrate Ascension on the Sunday after Ascension Day. That’s mostly because we can’t be bothered to attend an extra service. We are not heathens, but we are slothful.
Nellie you should be the lead singer for Flaming Murder Hornets,
MOOOOOOM yay for daughter! Have I mentioned lately how wonderful Costco is? They have hot dawgs and cheap clothes! Actually I have never been to a Costco. The nearest one to me is in Tallahassee and that ain’t happenin’.
JtC glad the stuff is workin’ on GG. Snoozin’ in a laundry basket next to the dryer sounds like fun.
Got shoulder replacement surgery next week.
And some more .
I’m so sorry you have to have surgery but so glad you let us know. Do you have someone to stay with you after you’re discharged?
Yikes! They’re murder hornets, not torture hornets.
Get well
Yoiks! Glad it’s soon, tho. I hope it’s easy and successful! And I hope PT afterwards won’t be too painful.
Well, it turns out I suspected the wrong someone of leaving the freezer open - it was MIL. I just went into the kitchen to get a yogurt, and the freezer was ajar. So she’s no longer allowed to get into it. She’s not strong enough to close it - it’s the drawer-style at the bottom.
And tentatively she’ll be going to Indy the last week of May and first week of June. We’ll take her the last weekend of this month and retrieve her two weeks later. It will be so nice to have a break!!! Of course, this assumes that nothing happens with AuntB and UncleJ. We shall see…
I do need the break - I’m becoming impatient with her and I shouldn’t. Had we not been related by marriage, she and I would never have been friends. We’re just too different and there are too many little things about her that grate on me. When we only saw them once in a while, it wasn’t a big deal. Living with it is quite another. She’s not a bad person. It’s just a personality thing. And that’s why I come here to bitch and moan.
Speaking of complaining - tomorrow we won’t get out of the 50s - the weather is all kinds of stoopit!! Plus there’s a chance of t-boomers tonight and into tomorrow. It’s supposed to be mid-70s this time of year, not 50s, dammit!! Stoopit weather.
I was texting with Daughter about her interview - she said it’ll be her against 4 interviewers - she’s a tad freaked about that. But when I interviewed with BAE way back when, it was me vs. 5, two of whom I ended up working with. I guess they favor the team approach to hiring here. Any other hiring folks use that approach?
And the interview will be at an office in town, but the work site is out in the boonies at Webster Field. They made it clear about where the job is located. Apparently they have a tough time getting people who want to work at that base. There are no restaurants convenient to there - really nothing is convenient to there. But as a teacher, she had to brown-bag it anyway, so that shouldn’t be a big deal.
As Thursday winds down, I need to get psyched up about laundry day tomorrow. Rah. I also need to go to the credit union. We got a surprise check in the mail today from BC/BS - since we already paid the dentist for FCD’s implant, we got a refund from Blue Cross. It was less than 20% of the cost, but surprise money in any amount is nice.
Up from naptime, having a Jungle Bird and watching hockey. Also Brown’s CFO is resigning for “reasons of health”. As a Cold War baby I had to giggle at that, because that is Soviet Speak for “Shot by KGB, and buried in shallow grave in woods.”
It would look cool when the soccer team colors his beard.
< holds up lighter >
We don’t have any of them here. they must still be brooding underground.
Yay!
That, and you can’t be missing the Thursday G&Ts.
{{{{Cupcakes}}}}
Oh dear. I hope you have a quick and easy surgery and recovery.
Nellie, I’m healing as expected. I’m cranky so I must be feeling better.
Cupcakes is the shoulder joint being replaced, or is it rotator cuff surgery? Please follow doctor’s orders, ice, rest, and do PT. And let us know if you need anything.
Nor does the dishware or silverware.
Hubs went to Einstein yesterday and brought home some bagels so I had a blueberry bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. Made bacon, fried egg with melted swiss and put on an asiago cheese bagel for Hubs.
I had called the hospital infusion department yesterday to let them know that the pump for the infusions could be picked up. They called Hubs back today and said they’d be by in an hour so I disattached the pump from the pole and boxed it up. Unfortunately they don’t take the pole back so another thing to be gathering dust in the basement.
Worked out on the NuStep while watching Amazing Race. Washed a ton of dishes. Made 4 trips to the curb: rolled the big trash bin and big recycling bin to the curb; carried one trash can of grass clippings and one of those big bags of grass clippings to curb.
You’ll be glad to know that Hubs somehow got the message that with all else that I’ve had to do, mowing the lawn was just too much for me so he hired a neighbor kid and his Dad for the month of May. He’s been asking me about turning over the soil for a garden and going and buying vegetable plants. Thinking about it I’m thinking that while it’s nice to have fresh produce, particularly tomatoes, I might just pass on a vegetable garden this year. I’m sure he’ll start telling me it’s time to plant the calla lily bulbs any day now.
I don’t have a Costco membership but I have several friends that do. So, I’ve been several times with them. But now I just ask them to pick up the few things that I like to buy from there: 3# bag of walnuts, big container of laundry pods, big container of cinnamon, quart of maple syrup.

Any other hiring folks use that approach?
Yes, when I interviewed for my last FT job, there were 3 interviewers: Deputy Director, Asst Director and an HR dude. When I interviewed for my PT job, there were 3 interviewers: Director, Deputy Director and an HR lady. When I interviewed for staff, it was me and my Sr staff assistant and sometimes the Asst Director.
{cupcakes} so sorry to hear you are going to need surgery. My best friend broke her shoulder last year end of February. It’s very important to start PT asap after surgery. I hope your Dr isn’t as stingy with the pain relieving medication as hers was. They seem to be very concerned about the effects of opiods now, probably because they don’t want to be sued. There apparently are good websites of people who have undergone shoulder surgery who detail their experiences and what to be aware of. If you’d like, I can ask my friend for a URL. The one thing that remains with me is that recovery can take anywhere from 6 months to a year+.

This is such a great improvement in his health. I’m so happy he is able to go out and see the world, even if it is just for a short time. Both of you must be happy about this.
It has been so terrible windy here that I’ve done nothing in my garden and I probably won’t until we are moved. Next week I’m going to get someone out to do some planting of flowers for me, I want people to know that we took care of the yard as well as the inside of our home.
It was really windy today as well, not a nice gardening day.
It was a good cat drugging day, besides being extra snoozy and relaxed, GG was just fine and is now totally awake and HUNGRY!!! We drugged him into missing at least 5 nosh sessions so he’s been making up for it now that he’s fully back.
I’m glad we did a test run, I’m feeling much more comfortable about the journey now.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

I’m glad we did a test run, I’m feeling much more comfortable about the journey now.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 23c/73f, and cloudy. Weather app says “This is a great fucking day if you burn easily like I do. Fuck the sun.” Absolutely, I burn easily and don’t like to be out in the sun. It was already warm when I left the house at 6.40am, now I’m in the campus office, we’ve got all the windows open and it’s still uncomfortable.

I was texting with Daughter about her interview - she said it’ll be her against 4 interviewers - she’s a tad freaked about that.
We typically have three people on our interview panels but it does depend on what we’re interviewing for. If you’re going for a bog-standard admin job, there will be three people. If you’re applying for management, senior management or specialised project stuff, there may be more people on the panel depending on who has an interest in the role.

Got shoulder replacement surgery next week.
I’m glad they have been able to schedule it so quickly for you. Must be horrible having to wait though. Fingers, eyes, toes and paws crossed here for you!
I’m glad it’s Friday, and my only campus day this week. I had a really nice day off yesterday, accomplished stuff I needed to do and saw 'im indoors off on his travels to Scotland. That means I’m home alone and unsupervised until Monday evening. Who knows what I’ll be getting up to? I have gym stuff tomorrow morning and I need to do a couple of errands in town in the afternoon. There’s football and it’s a home match so I expect town will be busy so my plan is to be in and out as quickly as possible.
In other news, we appear to have a student peace camp that’s sprung up on the green space outside my building. There’s a big green area between us and the new library building where they’ve pitched a few tents. It’s quiet at the moment, but then again it’s not even 9am and we all know students are not early risers!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and rainy/stormy with a predicted high of 80 and rainy/stormy most of the day. We are also havin’ a cool down in temps over the next few days. Highs will be in the upper seventies! I might have to pull out the woolies! This bein’ an ick day, plans are to be inside and dry. Thus sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall rule the day. We shall break fast for sup with pancakes, bacon, and scrambled aigs. YUM!
{{{CupCakes}}} very gentle hugs. Here’s hopin’ the shoulder replacement surgery is easy and the recovery is quick. Also glad you got in to get it done so soon.
MOOOOOOM this is the place to bitch and moan. Here’s hopin’ she does get to go to Indiana and give y’all a break. I have interviewed in front of a team before. It’s a kinda common thing IME.
Cat_Glove glad hubs saw the light re the mowin’. Don’t blame you about the veggie garden. You have more than enough on your plate to deal with right now.
JtC good to know GG handled bein’ drugged well. Be sure to catch up on all those missed nosh sessions.
BooFae hope the peace camp stays that way and that it is at least a little entertainin’.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!

Got some pedaling in
If anyone remembers what I wanted to say here, please let me know! I saved that yesterday and then had to jump off quickly and I have forgotten. So, um, hi, MetalMouse!!

It has been so terrible windy here that I’ve done nothing in my garden and I probably won’t until we are moved.
It was probably something really important that I had to say like this: that seems like a long way to go to do some gardening!

That means I’m home alone and unsupervised until Monday evening. Who knows what I’ll be getting up to?
{{{Baker}}}
I am up and contemplating what I want to do today. My zaps are up, too. Their new nickname as of about an hour ago is “SFBZ.” And, no, that doesn’t stand for: Super Fine Brain Zaps!!
